The Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based post-metal act CENTURY — whose 2008 Prosthetic debut, "Black Ocean", was named one of Revolver magazine's Top 20 albums of 2008 — were recently rejoined by original drummer Grant McFarland and bassist Ricky Armellino, the respective drummer and vocalist of fellow Lancaster act THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE. Additionally, the group has announced the addition of guitarist Todd Mogle to its ranks. A photo of the new lineup appears in the photos section under 2009 Promo Pics

CENTURY has also started work on the follow-up to "Black Ocean", and promises both "an exercise in futuristic sonic annihilation" and a "bold step forward stylistically." The as-yet-untitled CD is tentatively scheduled for a fall release. In the meantime, the band will play select regional dates — including an appearance at April's New England Metal and Hardcore Festival — and continue working on the video for "Black Ocean" track "Monolith", a continuation of the clip for the album's title track, which garnered extensive airplay on MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" last year. The band also plans to record a cover of SEAL's "Kiss From A Rose" for an upcoming anniversary compilation to be released by Tribunal Records, the label that issued CENTURY's 2006 debut, "Faith and Failure".

"I'm extremely excited to play New England Metal and Hardcore Festival," says CENTURY frontman Carson Slovak, "and I hope people walk away from the experience thinking I'm really, really cool."

In addition, Slovak — also an accomplished graphic artist who has designed recent album covers and layouts for ALL THAT REMAINS, TESTAMENT and ANTAGONIST, among others — will participate in an artwork-related panel discussion at the inaugural Launch Music Conference in Lancaster on April 17, the day before CENTURY takes the stage in Worcester.

CENTURY has begun the writing process for their next full-length album. Much like the critically acclaimed Prosthetic Records debut, the new album will be an exercise in futuristic sonic annihilation. However, the as-yet-untitled effort will also prove to be a bold step forward stylistically from Black Ocean, which was recently named one of Revolver Magazine's "Top 20 Albums of 2008". CENTURY will be playing select regional dates throughout the writing process, in addition to an appearance on 2009's New England Metal & Hardcore Fest.

Additionally, the newest incarnation of Pennsylvania's CENTURY has arrived. Rejoining the band is original drummer Grant McFarland and bassist Ricky Armellino, current drummer and vocalist of This Or The Apocalypse, respectively. Also joining the band on guitar is longtime friend, Todd Mogle. When asked about the recent line-up change, vocalist Carson Slovak and guitar player Jason Baker declined comment, citing future grievances with the new members.

Fans of CENTURY's debut music video from the album Black Ocean will be excited to learn that production on the follow-up video for the song "Monolith" is underway. The video will be a continuation of the first installment, which garnered heavy rotation on MTV's Headbangers Ball in 2008. The band swears that the first video will make sense after this one.

Check out the February 2009 issue of REVOLVER Magazine. Century's "Black Ocean" is #18 on their Top 20 CD's for 2008. We want to say thank you to the staff of Revolver for the nice write up on the album, and for including us in the list.

Pennsylvania's CENTURY have confirmed that the band is currently developing the second and third parts of the "Black Ocean" short film series. The series of films comes from its musical counterpart, and second full-length, Black Ocean. Part one of the series, available in its entirety on blackoceanalbum.com in both music video and short film versions and aroused questions pertaining to the story of Black Ocean and the album's overall concept, while the second and third installments will answer these questions as well as shed new light on the album's meaning as a whole.

The "Black Ocean" music video received heavy airplay earlier this year on MTV2's Headbangers Ball, and concurrently, the second and third installments will also be presented in a music video format as well as the unedited short film versions only available on the album concept website, blackoceanalbum.com, creating a cohesive, all-encompassing story complimenting Black Ocean's 10 tracks.

"Though Black Ocean has been out for several months already," CENTURY frontman Carson Slovak says, "it's still only partially released in terms of its concept. I'm excited to roll out the next installment of the story and hopefully shed some light on the questions that the initial album and short film release produced."

Seeing a release in late-April, CENTURY's Black Ocean has already taken the band on regional Northeast dates both solo and with friends Time Of Cholera and Pack of Wolves, with more live appearances being planned. The band's fully-interactive album concept website, blackoceanalbum.com, features news, tour dates, biography information, several other videos, and an interactive cipher which, upon solving, unveils an unreleased bonus track from Black Ocean, as well as an e-card featuring several songs from the record.

"Black Ocean is brutally heavy, unstintingly fierce and caustically moody in equal parts, a well-conceived amalgamation that seems to support the fact that leader [Carson] Slovak has a clear vision for what Century are all about." – Decibel magazine

"Black Ocean projects a strong sense of soul through its well-textured metallic maelstrom, referencing bands such as Poison The Well, Mastodon and The Ocean while avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump." — Metal Maniacs

"'Black Ocean' is heavy stuff, metaphorically as well as literally — it's the kind of record destined to be respected at a safe distance by those who know how much work went into it. It's a spiritual descendent of all those Botch and Converge records, but at the same time it's a prog-mosh treatise with recognizable DNA from early The Dillinger Escape Plan and Opeth." – Blabbermouth

"On Black Ocean, Century beef up their sound with thicker production and a more metallic edge, though they haven't strayed far from the progressive hardcore of 2006's Faith And Failure…Check this out for 'Equus,' one of '08's meanest, catchiest songs." – Metal Edge Magazine

"Century is quite hard to explain. They are hefty, emotional and expansive but not in a languid post rock way as they have a more urgent and angular gait to their style, but it's never hardcore-ish or overly burly and dissonant. It's this blustery and groovy yet vibrant and evocative mix of Mastodon, Isis and Misery Signals that's hard to define, but enjoyable on all levels." – Metal Review

"It's heavy. It's fast. It's angry. Century's Prosthetic Records debut, Black Ocean, thrives on straightforward song structures and subtle melodic touches to show that modern metalcore doesn't necessarily have to suck." – Lambgoat

"Unprepared listeners may still require thick glasses to gain clarity into Century's twisted musical universe, but risk-taking fans of Intronaut and Burst will quickly recognize this album as their next, favorite mystery to unravel." – All Music Guide

"…seamlessly intertwines the best of modern day (and not so ancient day) metalcore with strains of tech, doom-laden atmosphere, death metal." – Hails and Horns

Our new album Black Ocean will see its European release via Prosthetic Records on May 12th, 2008. If you live in Europe, go out and pick up a copy! And if you're a US resident, the album is in stores NOW. Help us out and go grab one.

Our video for the title track off the record has been getting great feedback. Thanks so much to everyone who sent a message or left a comment, we appreciate it!. The video made its network television debut on MTV's HeadBanger's Ball a few weeks ago and was dubbed "Bang Of The Week" upon its second airing. It was also the featured video on MySpace Metal last week and can be viewed on our album website http://www.blackoceanalbum.com, along with an extended "short film" edit and a "making of" mini-documentary.

Look for a mention of Century in the current issue of Revolver magazine, on stands now in the "Bootleg" column, featuring the track "Equus" for free download. Look for another feature in an upcoming issue of Revolver soon.

We are gearing up for our tour with great friends Time Of Cholera and Pack Of Wolves starting May 17th. Be sure to make it to these shows because they will be awesome. Additional touring plans are currently in the works for the summer.

More to come, stay tuned! - c
