Afro Funke' Live & PUMA put on two amazing "African Soccer Fever" events last week in LA & SF with Afro Roots star ROCKY DAWUNI plus DJ JEREMY SOLE & special guests to usher in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa. ROCKY had his 11 piece ensemble which ripped through many of his new "Hymns for the Rebel Soul" tunes to the packed crowd which was a virtual who's who of LA movers and shakers including yoga diva Shiva Rae and indie star Tom Freund! At ....Zanzibar.... in LA, DJ Glenn Red whipped the crowd into a frenzie and Kara Cummings blew our minds with her outrageous African dance! At Elbo Room in SF, we partnered with DJ Oz from Afrolicious plus Pleasuremaker Band to rock the Mission District to the wee hours. Invited guests Michael Franti, Sila (from the Afro Funk Experience) and Black Nature (Refugee Allstars) were in the house to celebrate with Rocky & the crew. Very special thanks to: PUMA for sponsoring the events, Tamara from Universal Rhythmand Fusiscology for their promotional support, Wawi Amasha from Mami Afrika Designs and Nnamdi Moweta from Radio Afrodicia! Afro Funke' was ALIVE as we presented a heavily African evening featuring ..Nigeria.. & ....Germany....'s new star NNEKA. Rocky Dawuni gave Nneka a glorious introduction stating that she was part of the "future of African music." You could hear a pin drop in the club as the packed crowd hung on
to her every word.
To complete an amazing evening, l'Esprit d'Afrique, put on a joyous multi-cultural performance with DJs Jeremy Sole & Glenn Red rocking the house with some Afro Funke' classics!
