I’m writing down how I feel about this glorious day.
Today is this wonderful, amazing, joyful day. Today is a day that will be remembered forever. Today is a day that I never believed could happen. Today is the day our 44th President was inaugurated. Today is the day Barack Hussein Obama became our 44th President. Today is the day that the first black man took office. Today is the day our world is changed forever. Today is quite possibly the happiest day of my life.
It is crazy to think that less than 60 years has passed since white people and black people couldn’t eat together, drink from the same fountains, ride in the same areas of a bus, or go to school together. It is crazy to think that less than 60 years has passed since we integrated our country. It is crazy to think that less than 60 years has passed since all of these terrible things were abolished and we NOW have our 1st black President.
This man is going to change our world. I am not naïve enough to think it will all be done overnight. I am not naïve enough to think it will all be done within 4 years. I am not naïve enough to think it can all be done by him alone. I am however, confident enough to believe he is the right one for this job. I am confident enough to believe that he will work his hardest to get things done. I am confident enough to believe that we, the people, will work along side him to accomplish these admirable goals.
It warms my heart to see all these people excited about our new President. It over joys me to see old standards being let go for new ones to take over. It also makes me happy that we will not let go of everything old as long as it is right. “Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end.” (President Obama, 01/20/09)....
I believe that this nation is going to be great again. I believe we are going to pick ourselves back up and earn back the respect of old friends. I believe we are going to forge forward to make new ones. I believe we are going to finish what we started in ....Iraq...., while making it better and ending our presence there. I believe our healthcare, schools, and the American economy are going to get better. I also believe that these changes are going to take time, money, and patience. But we are going to get there.....
I believe that there is still a problem with race relations in this country. 60 years is not a very long time in the grand scheme of things. We are moving forward. We are getting better. We are not perfect though and I feel that there is plenty of work to do. I believe that this man and this Presidency will help the race relations in this country.....
“For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.” ---- President Obama 01/20/09....
I go forward on this day with hope and joy in my heart. We have witnessed a piece of history and on this day, more than ever, I am proud and delighted to be an American.
