Please Read/ Thanks
Suspended Instants
On Thursday July 2nd 2009 we were shocked to learn that the balance of
the operational subsidy allocated to our Association by the General
Council of the Seine-Saint-Denis Department had been slashed by no less
than 25,000€ – a drop of more of 19%. This in addition to a 7,000€ cut
in our municipal subsidy (at the beginning of the year, the town of
Montreuil had announced a reduction of 15,000€, 7000€ being the amount
eventually decided upon by the end of June). This means that we have
lost 32,000€ in 2009.
The lack of funding has forced us to
cancel our Autumn season of concerts, video projections and
exhibitions, in its entirety. Even maintaining a strict minimum of
programmed events would lead to a budgetary deficit that we simply
could not contemplate.
We have serious questions regarding
how the Council reached its decision, and what factors might have
influenced it in so doing, and to date do not know on what opinions or
analyses the said decision was based. We also deplore that the decision
was taken so late.
It would seem that the Department has
deliberately adopted a policy designed to weaken our Association,
resulting in a slow asphyxiation that will put the entire future of the
Instants Chavirés in jeopardy. How are we to plan for a 2010 season in
such conditions?
"Art must be where it's indispensible, which means everywhere" - Claude Lévêque, artist
We maintain that an intermediary cultural space like the Instants
Chavirés is an essential complement to existing institutions, and that
it has made a major contribution to the diversity of the cultural
offer, playing an essential role in discovering and promoting art for
over 18 years.
Does the Seine-Saint-Denis Department still
have the political will to maintain an internationally acclaimed
artspace dedicated to contemporary creation, however modest it may be?
We demand the setting up of a round table with all our institutional
partners to rehabilitate a relation which is clearly deteriorating. It
is essential to redefine the financial framework together, regarding
the unique nature of our artistic commitment as well as our
geographical and structural specificity.
We urge you then to sign the online petition (http://instants.mollo.fr),
and write to Claude Bartolone, President of the General Council of
Seine-Saint-Denis, and / or to the Mayor of Montreuil, Dominique
Voynet, to inform them of what the Instants Chavirés represents in the
local, national and international cultural landscape, and express your
own commitment to the lasting nature of this project.
You can address your correspondence directly to us at the following email address soutiens@instantschavires.com,
or by regular mail to Instants Chavirés, 7 Rue Richard Lenoir 93100
Montreuil - France. We undertake to forward it to the parties concerned.
Please circulate this communiqué as widely as you can, amongst everyone you know. Thank you. Association Muzziques – les Instants Chavirés

Hey it's been a while.....
Sister Iodine has just released a great LP on Premier Sang
(run by the french illustrator Hendrik Hegray) called Flame Desastre.
The CD version should be available later this year on Mego.
Jackie O Motherfucker signed a deal with Fire Records. The band has just released a new album called "Ballad of the Revolution". Fire will also re-reissue Fig5 , Liberation and reissue Flags of the Sacred Harp later this year.
We're thinking about a reissue of the Change album with several
bonus...... maybe in 2010... or never. But the Textile/JOMF connection
is not broken and a new collaboration with Tom Greenwood will hopefully
see the light at the end of the year.
And what about Textile??? The third collaboration between Textile
and R.MacDonald / Georges Burt. featuring loads of guest (as usual)
shoud be out early september. Next step, a brilliant collaboration with
Ikiussus records... The Monk of Malaspina, a crazy project from Theo Angel... Joanne Robertson is working on a new record.... Martin Creed
too.... so many exciting projet.
Have a nice summer

Dotshop.se is dead.... we are all dying. Finally something different from the usual hypocrit speech about illegal file sharing stupidly maintained by too many independant / DIY labels and artists.
Dotshop to close down
It is with sadness that we today must inform you that we are closing
down our operation. The sales have dropped radically due to all the
illegal file sharing going on, and we can no longer survive.
We have learned many things and we are proud and happy to have been
able to represent so many great labels and artists, and we would like
to thank each and everyone of you for a good collaboration and for the
good music you have released. We wish you the very best of luck and
fortune in the future.
We sincerely hope that all artists and musicians around the world start
to speak up and fight for their professions and careers, or else we are
afraid it's all gloom and doom from here. Unless you find a way how to
monetize chaos.
This whole scene we are witnessing is a circus where pirates have
hi-jacked concepts that are too important to be misused the way they
are: democracy, freedom, bright future. These entities, it seems, are
beyond their grasp and comprehension, as they truly have absolutely
nothing to do with piracy.
File sharing without the permission of the owner of the copyright is a
real killer. It is killing us. And it is killing the labels we work
with. It is a fight for our livelihoods, and for free culture. Because
without a strong copyright law we risk to be caught in a patronage and
sponsoring web (and that is a kick-back by 200 yrs). We need copyright
laws. And we need people who respect the law and pays the author.
We wish that everyone had the same respect for the creator as the many
customers of Dotshop. And to all of you, our loyal music loving
customers from all over the world - we thank thee graciously for your
support, love and intelligence. Thank you!
You will all have a final op to purchase great music. Starting in May
we shall have a BIG SALES CAMPAIGN to empty our shelves. This campaign
will go on until we have cleared the shelves or till the end of August,
whichever occurs first.
Anders Bersten, on behalf of team Dot.

The great Datashock/Time Life Collaboration is at the pressing plant. It should be out in March and will hopefully coincide with Datashock Uk tour. Check their myspace for dates and details. "Alle in einem bus" includes two long tracks, one recorded by the dutch radio station VPRO, the other one was recorded live in Paris during an ali fib night. This release is a limited CD with a great cover silkscreened by j. kauth
Next step for us is the great Scarcity of Tanks album. They recently toured U.S. west coast with a totally crazy line up (featuring members of Cobra Verde, Minutemen, Red Krayola, Text of Light, The Leeches, The Flying Luttenbachers.) More about them soon. If you can't wait visit their blog at http://scarcityoftanks.blogspot.com/
What else... a new collaboration between R. Mc Donald and G. Burt is ready to release. Tom Greenwood (JOMF) is still working on his first solo album for Textile, and Martin Creed too. Coupe Coupe from Paris will join the team later this year, a couple of other bands left it for other pipedreams.
Happy crisis to all
