Current mood: curious
If you have been following my adventures online you know that I am full on in Documentary mode. I have been following around the Film Repo for quite some time, and a few months back it was glaringly apparent that there is a story here that needed to be told. I was admittedly hesitant to get onboard to the extent that I have, but I am very happy to have been on this journey. A journey that has taken me all over the world and back, a few times! The finale to this is going to be at Comic Con on July 25th, and I hope to see you all there.
So as I enter into the editing phase of the process I am struck with a decision…what’s next? We all know that the best time to get a job is when you already have one…so what do “I” do next? Back to one of my many side projects (puppets ,Pirate TV, Screenplay) Do I maybe get a day job, or do another fandom documentary? I have always wanted to make a “real” movie (who hasn’t?) Or I could even follow Repo on further adventures. But the more I think on this decision, the more I realize that I real am missing the horror scene. It’s something I still talk about on a daily basis. And a few VERY INTERESTING prospects had come up. So while I weigh in all the options (and feverishly edit away on the Repo documentary) I want to know your opinion. But not so much about me and what to do next, but rather what criteria YOU use to help you decide on the next phase of your life when you see it looking you dead in the face. Obviously I want to do something I love, and I hope that all of you do the same, BUT what are the criteria to make a big life change? What is most important to you, and why? Money? Family? Power? Changing the world? Security? Social Status? Love? Sex? Career advancement? Artistic Integrity? Clout? Outward Perception? Appearance? In the end, it’s always about a combination of these things, but do you let your life decisions fall more into one category than another? And I don’t mean to say that anyone is more important than another, they all have importance, what good is money and power without love and family to share it with. So I challenge you all to look in the mirror and tell me what it is that motivates you. Be honest and open, if your main goal is to get laid, then that’s fine. Just tell me WHY. I may disagree with you or we may see eye to eye, and in the end I hope we all just learn a little more about each other. SpookyDan

This Wednesday July 8th! The Shadow Cats are performing a special event at The Toronto Fringe Festival Bloor Cinema ..506 Bloor Street West.. (at ....Bathurst....) Tickets are available here, and they anticipate a sellout crowd! https://www.fringetix.ca/scripts/max/2000/maxweb.exe Then on Friday the Polaris convention of Fantasy and genre great is hosting a special performance at: .. Richmond Hill Sheraton Parkway.. 600 Highway 7 ....East Richmond Hill.., ..Ontario.., ..Canada.. ..L4B 1B2.... http://www.tcon.ca/polaris/modules/content/index.php?id=206 The screening is Friday night, but stick around for a Repo Panel on Saturday morning and get a chance to meet Repo’s own Alex Kavanaugh, Adam Smith, and Jake Reardon!!! As you know, Alex Kavanaugh is the costume designer for Repo and she has been a very active supporter of the film. Stop by and gush over her amazing-ness get an autograph and ask her insider secrets about the film. Adam Smith is one dude I am dying to meet, he was the lead prop maker for the film and he will be there to answer questions and do autographs as well. If only we could all be as talented as Adam, the world would be a much cooler looking place! Check out his world here: http://www.swordinthestone.ca/ Lastly the insanely hot Jake Reardon will be meeting fans and signing autographs as well. I got a chance to meet and hang out with her a few weeks ago, and I can personally say that this chick is kick ass! And I think we all owe her a great big thank you for being the sole reason that hundreds of chicks are getting naked on stages during Repo shadowcasts across the globe! You can get tickets to the Polaris con here: http://www.tcon.ca/polaris/modules/content/?id=102 But for the life of me I have no idea how this website works, it look like it costs $20 per day, but don’t quote me on that. See you in ....Canada....! SpookyDan (your new BFF) One last thing: I will be at the San Diego Comic Con later this month to wrap up the filming of the documentary, and you will only be able to upload your videos and pictures to my website through the month of July, after that I am closing it down to stay focused on editing… so get those videos filmed and uploaded over at www.spookydan.com

It has been a crazy couple of months with about a dozen projects getting started and slowly creeping their ways into my daily life. First up is my ongoing coverage of Repo… by now you have heard me talk about it, and it’s time you sat down and watched it for yourselves, please let me know if you love or hate it. Either way, I would love your feedback. Second is that Icons of Fright has welcomed me into their horror corner of the universe, so look for many new and exciting videos starting this week. And lastly I have been working feverishly day and night on answering the question of how to better serve the horror fans. The answer is not simple, its multi-faceted beginning with a new quality of film, followed by an event, and supported by the community. Like I said, it’s a very exciting time with new adventures happening daily…I will keep you posted
www.iconsoffright.comis the new place to see my videos from the horror world, and the Repo Universe. Here is the first one, showcasing the Hysteria around Repo The Genetic Opera .. www.spookydan.com is the new central headquarters for my blogs and updates. The website is still under construction. In my ongoing coverage about the film Repo! The Genetic Opera, tonight’s event in Los Angeles was quite historic! This weekend marks the 5th month since its official release in November. In that time the film has gone from a weird horror rock opera and box office failure, to an event needing to be seen to believe. Across the North America Repo has been playing NON STOP every weekend since its initial release and the films popularity just continues to grow! Proof of that was seen tonight in San Antonio, with their monthly shadowcast and here in Los Angeles, with a special unannounced guest in attendance ANTHONY STEWART HEAD. The Los Angeles Repo shows have been special for everyone involved, so it is no surprise that the film sold out, but even without announcing the special guest, the SOLD OUT line to get in was wrapped around the massive complex that houses the Sunset 5. Fans had come from all over, even from far away states for the show. Stars; Alexa Vega, Terrence Zdunich, and Darren Smith, director Darren Lynn Bousman, Music Producer Joe Bishara, DP Joseph White, and Producer Carl Mazzocone were ALL in attendance tonight! The fans went crazy forming a mob at the sight of the Repo man himself, asking for autographs, taking pictures, and pledging their love to him. Tonight was the night That Anthony Head got to see the insanity that Repo has become …for his first time! Out in the lobby, before the film started, Star Terrence Zdunich was surrounded by adoring fans as well. I cannot even begin to tell you just how crazy the night began. You will have to see the pictures and video to get a grasp of what it was like. But as cool as it is that Anthony Head showed up for the show, the real stars of the night were the local shadow cast called ADDICTED TO THE KNIFE. The night was truly theirs as they performed every minute of the film live on the stage. The 35+ person cast has come into their own with every move, motion and word rehearsed and performed to the exact moment of the screen. This could have been a Broadway stage play with the amount of effort and talent involved. Hats off to them for doing such and amazing and well put together job! ATTK cast leaders Bernie Bregman and Vivianna Navarro opened the night with a performance of “Needle Through a Bug”, that was almost as good as going to a nudie bar…it was DIRTY! Then Bregman gave a special shout out to the other shadow casts across the country before getting everyone to all Pledge allegiance to REPO, even Anthony Head was chanting along! Bregman thanked everyone involved and even mentioned that LA is one of the places that Rocky Horror and Repo are allies and very cooperative of each other, a fact that is happening nationwide, even though a few old-timer’s don’t agree. I am told that history was made tonight as Co-creator Darren Smith, and recording musician CJ DeAngelus Jr. both performed along with the shadow cast. I have now seen the film in the theater 29 times, and tonight was easily one of the best and most memorable. I cant even imagine where this is going, or what the other shadow casts are doing…but if I have my way I will find out first hand as I continue to document the fan phenomenon as it is happening. I myself have found my way into the Repo family, with my videos and blogs. To my surprise, people were chanting “Spooky” when Darren announced me, as one of the gang. Tonight Genetic opera was “most certainly” THE PLACE TO BE!!! SpookyDan

Hey Creeps!
.. ..
I have some great news!!!
.. ..
This Sunday April 19th at The Fangoria Weekend of Horrors I am moderating the Repo panel with Darren Lynn Bousman, Terrance Zdunich, Ogre of Skinny Puppy, and horror legend Bill Moseley!
Panel is 3:15 pm.
LA Convention Center (1201 South Figueroa),
....West.. ..Hall.. ..Building..... In the Main Auditorium (Concourse 151 & 152).
As you may know, I am pretty attached and obsessed with this film, and I couldn’t be happier to continue to be a part of it, with my pals from the film!
.. ..
Few things in the past years have affected my life more than Repo! The Genetic Opera. When I first heard about it, I was certainly intrigued, but nothing could prepare me for the beauty and originality that Repo brought. As a journalist I had covered the film from the start. I was lucky enough to visit the set and even luckier when Darren and Terrence asked me to accompany them on the third Repo Road Tour. While on tour I met hundreds of people that were just as obsessed as I am. Many of them eclipsed my passion for the film by coming dressed up as characters, acting along with the film, singing and dancing in the aisles, and even creating museum quality props that looked strikingly like the ones used in the film.
.. ..
But the real thing that I saw was the camaraderie amongst the fans that is unrivaled in recent history. Fans were becoming friends; fans were using their common love for the film to form true bonds with each other. They traveled hundreds of miles in the dead of winter to see a film, and along the way a family was born.
.. ..
Last month brought me to two more Repo shadow cast Midnight screenings, the first with the insanely cool “Night Surgeons” in ..Pittsburgh.., ..PA.. and later to the sold out show at the Sunset 5 in ....Hollywood..... The 30 person shadow cast “Addicted To The Knife” performed the entire film and did an incredible job.
.. ..
To date I have traveled the country with the film, hosted it in multiple cities, have been a guest on the fan run Repo Radio Show, and last weekend I hosted another Repo Shadow Cast “90 Day Delinquents” in ....Chicago.., ..IL.... (my 28th time in the theater)! The weekend was incredible, meeting so many fans and new fans all finding a new creative outlets for them through this film.
.. ..
Since I began my journey following Repo I brought my video camera and began documenting as much as possible surrounding the phenomenon that Repo has created with the fans.
.. ..
Look for some video teasers on www.iconsoffright.com very soon!
.. ..
The phenomenon has begun and I can’t wait for you to be a part of it!

Current mood: optimistic
It’s been a very strange few months.
I have been publicly quiet online and in real life, due to many things changing, the biggest of those things was my decision to leave Bloody Disgusting. In the past few weeks I have received (literally) hundreds of emails, Facebook and MySpace comments asking why I left and what I am going to do next. Will I go to a competitor, start my own website, make puppet films, or will I leave the horror biz completely and go back into visual FX?
Leaving Bloody Disgusting was a very big decision for me, and I honestly can tell you that it has caused many sleepless nights, and much stress. I have questioned my faith in many things that I believed to be true, from my value within the horror community, to my effectiveness cheerleading a genre, which can be oft times fueled with fan negativity. I am happy to report that many people involved in Bloody Disgusting are fighting to continue my involvement. In particular, Mr. Disgusting has gone to bat for me again and again while the behind the scenes stuff was going on.
So what actually happened? As you may have guessed, things can get sticky when you mesh egos, friendship, and work. In truth, I left because of communication problems circling around the now defunct web-series which I hosted and produced called BDTV. BDTV, (as I saw it) would showcase ALL aspects of the horror community, and shine a light on the hard working people within our industry. Ultimately BDTV was deemed “a failure” due to the fact that there was little promotion outside of Bloody Disgusting, and the lack of interest within our own horror community. These problems, lead to my lack of feeling valued, and my resignation.
For me, BDTV was far from a failure, but more a huge success. From the dozens of interviews, set visits, press junkets, and red carpets to the fun graphics, through thick and thin, I am very proud of what BDTV was. In today’s world of inane pop culture, silly horror model competitions, changing politics, and lousy economy talks… we brought a show that THE HORROR FANS could actually relate to, and one that spoke about things they in fact CARE about.
Over the past 4 and a half years BD has offered me tons of opportunities to meet with and interact with many people that I admire and look up to, and more importantly to meet many other fans of the horror genre. For this I will eternally be grateful. My involvement within BD will continue, and while we work out the details, many doors are opening, and many people have expressed interest in my film and TV projects. It seems that the timing has come to evolve from horror cheerleader to horror creator.
I’m not going away at all, just shifting gears.
