ICS at TT the Bear's January 5thHey Crew,
Happy holidays! Hope everyone made out like bandits this season. I just finished a hot bowl of Dad's homemade soup (mmm... mmm...) and wanted to drop you guys a quick note:
We just got booked for our first show of 2010. We'll be performing at TT the Bear's on Tuesday, January 5th. Doors open at 8:30pm and admission is $7. We're the opening act, so make sure you can get there early! We'll be playing with Davina Yannetty, the Tusken Raiders and Kristen Ford. Should be a fun show and it's our first non-acoustic gig at TT's, so we're stoked.
We also have new merchandise in our store, including new t-shirt designs, and a coffee mug. We finally got around to putting up nine tracks from a previous show at TT the Bear's in the store as well. Each song is under a buck and includes songs like "Bromance", "The Viking Song" and "Johnny Jump Up".
That's all for now. Thanks again for a great first year as Ice Cream Social.
Enjoy the new year and see you at the shows!
Best,
--Justin

Hey Crew,
I'll try to refrain from boring you by mentioning that 2009 is almost over, and going over all the great moments of 2009.

We will say that we had what we'd consider a very successful first year as a band and had a blast playing for you all. You guys are always energetic at the shows, singing and stomping along with us. We love that and we had several bookers and other bands take notice of how much fun you guys make the room. Props to you all!We have two shows in December for you to catch us at. More details to follow:
"Best Multi-Band Ensemble Show Ever!!!" at Eggroll Cafe (Tuesday, December 4)

Show starts at 7:30pm; FREE, ALL AGES

Four artists and bands, plus a handful of special guests will be playing at the Eggroll Cafe this Friday. Start the new month and the weekend right with some laughs, pirate tunes and trippy uke rock. More info can be found by clicking the photo above.

Singer-Songwriter Night at All Asia (Tuesday, December 15)

Hey crew,

We're sad to see October go. We love autumn, the foliage and Halloween (especially Halloween). But at least Turkey Day is just around the corner!

We made some new friends at our show at All Asia hosted by Karmic. A great crowd came out in force, braving the cold, wind, rain and snow. You are all troopers and we appreciate the support!

We also played at a private Halloween party hosted by Justin's cousin and his roommates. Lots of fun costumes -- our favorites were Wall-E & EVE, Walter from Big Lebowski and Tim the Enchanter -- and Rock Band everywhere. We had the pleasure of being the live entertainment and the crowd was loud, like SUPER loud. We don't think we've ever heard "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum" sang so loud back at us. It was fantastic.

And publicity photos will be up on Facebook and Myspace soon -- we promise! You can check out a bunch at Amanda Cameron's photoblog. OK, onto the upcoming Novemeber show (full schedule at our ReverbNation profile).

All Acoustic Night at McGann's (Tuesday, November 17)
197 Portland St. Boston, MA (North Station)
Show starts at 8:00pm; $5 tickets/$7 door, 21+ only

This is an all acoustic show by the Boston Garden. Seven acts are playing, including us. Here's the line-up: Jay Gagnon, Meg Lynch, Davina Yannetty, Kim Bomba, Dann Russo, us and All of the Animals. To order tickets, email us at IceCreamSocialDuo@gmail.co..m and we'll be sure to find a way of getting pre-sale tickets in your hand.

By the way, we finally reached the 100+ fan plateau on Facebook meaning we could reserve a vanity URL. You can now find us on FB at www.facebook.com/ICSMusic. Thanks for all that joined the fanpage and pass on the word!

Hope to see you at the shows!

Hey crew,

Feels like autumn already in Boston. And, to think, it was 90+ for almost two weeks about a week or so ago. C'est la vie! At least this means football & hockey is right around the corner and, to Justin's great excitement, pumpkin ale!

August was short on shows but not on fun or work. After playing at a private party in Maine at the beginning of the month, we spent most of the month writing and working on some new songs (some of which we hope we'll be debuting soon).

We also had our second show at All Asia in August which went over great. We had an awesome crowd that showed up for the event -- some with and in viking garb, no less! -- and we made plenty of new friends throughout the day. It's always enjoyable to meet other people who enjoy this type of music and we hope to see them all again soon!

New music... Thanks to the wonderful Pam Craven we had our July TT the Bear's show recorded live. She did a great job mixing everything and we have a few of the live tracks available for streaming on our Myspace page. Let us know what you think.

Follow us on Twitter... Justin also started a Twitter account so you can stalk us even when you're on the run, aka find out what we're up event wise and more as it happens. If you have an account, follow us @ICSMusic.

Now, onto the September shows:

Friday, September 4th at the Eggroll Cafe
110 University Ave, Lowell, MA
Show starts at 7:00pm; FREE admission, ALL AGES

The Eggroll Cafe is throwing a back-to-school party for this coming Friday and it's lined with five great local acts, including us. The show's starting an hour earlier than usual to fit in all the featured acts so swing by early for dinner and stay for the entertainment. As always with Eggroll shows, the event is free to the public and is open to all ages. Also on the bill: Davina Yannetty, Jim Persky, The Bella Birds and Meg Lynch.

Saturday, September 19th at Porter's Bar & Grill
173 Portland St. Boston, MA
Show starts at 9:00pm; $7 tickets/$10 door; 21+

This will be an All Acoustic Night at Porter's. It also just so happens to fall on Talk Like a Pirate Day and you know we can't let such a day go by without some sort of celebration. We're still working out the details but be sure that we'll do something special to mark the occasion. Hint: get your pirate/viking garb and/or related clothing ready 'cause you'll need it for the fun. More details to come in the following weeks. To order tickets, shoot us an email at IceCreamSocialDuo@gmail.co..m and we'll meet up with you. Seriously... you want cheap tickets, get a hold of us. :-)

And as always, you can listen to our music and see a full show schedule at www.myspace.com/icecreamso..cialduo.

Hope to see you at the shows!

Hey crew,

We're back in Boston after a weekend excursion in Maine. Despite the best effort of Justin's car (which decided to overheat), we made it to our gig up north and had a blast playing for a mix of friends, family and strangers. As for July, it was a great month. We finished two tracks for our demo CD; new versions of "Bromance" and "Cape Cod Rock" can be found on our Myspace page. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think. We'll be working on more songs in the coming months.

We also had a couple of shows with Davina Yannetty last month. First show was at the Eggroll Cafe (our fav place to play in Lowell). The Kit family, inspired by our name, bought ice cream and cones to give out to patrons. It was a dream come true for us. Then two weeks later we opened at TT the Bear's for Davina and Richard Goldman. We had our best crowd that night and got to meet some new friends finally, so thanks to everyone who bared the heat and came out to our show. We hope you had fun!

August is a light month for shows for us, so we'll take this time to work on new songs and the demo, but we do have one event this month that we're eagerly looking forward to, so mark your calendars:

Sunday, August 23rd at All Asia
334 Mass Ave. Cambridge, MA (Central Sq.)
Show starts at 4:00pm; $8 tickets/$10 door, ALL AGES

Our second show booked via Afton at All Asia. We had fun playing here in June to a great crowd and are looking forward to playing there again. The list of bands playing is still growing but also on the bill so far is The Movie The Ride and Gracie Van Brunt. Should be a fun event. To order tickets to the show shoot us an e-mail and we'll arrange a way to get tickets to you. Be sure to RSVP to the event.

As always, you can listen to our music and see a full show schedule at www.myspace.com/icecreamso..cialduo.

Hope to see you at the show!

June was an exciting (and busy) month for us. After almost two grueling months of rehearsals, music practice, morning fight sessions and long weekend dress rehearsals, we finally performed in the 2009 New England Pirate Faire in Gloucester. The show went fantastic; our music sets were a lot of fun and the patrons really seemed to enjoy the entire show. We also learned, once again, that performing live music outdoors in front of a large audience isn't so easy... but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun! How can we top such a long kick-line number during the "Viking Song"?

We also had our first gig at All Asia in June. We were the second-to-last band schedule but because the last band to go canceled, we got to play an extra long set, a great treat to both us and the fans who came out and sat around all afternoon, hanging with us and listening to some other local bands and musicians. We also made some new friends who enjoy the same music we do (always a plus!). Everyone who purchased a ticket from us will get a free download of "Bromance" once we finish a new recording of it. We have a list of everyone's name, so no worries. We'll get it to you!

One would think we'd take a little mental breather after such a busy couple of months, but instead we're going to take the momentum built in June and run with it into July with two shows with good friend Davina Yannetty and by recording new music for people to enjoy at home, car and office.

Friday, July 17th at the Eggroll Cafe with Davina Yannetty
110 University Ave, Lowell, MA
Show starts at 8:00pm; FREE admission, ALL AGES

This will be our third gig up at the Eggroll Cafe. It's a great, intimate venue (awesome food!) owned by one of the friendliest families you'll ever meet. We do a lot of open mics up here and have always have a blast playing here. We're the first act so be sure to get there early to grab a good seat and dinner.

Monday, July 27th at TT the Bear's Place with Davina Yannetty and Richard Goldman
10 Brookline St., Cambridge
Show starts at 8:00 pm; $4/door admission, 18+

This will also be our third show at TT the Bear's as part of "The Other Side of the Bear Acoustic Series". In fact, TT's was the first place John and I played together (not including the Salem Pirate Faire). It was ICS's second date, if you will... We'll be opening up for two other great acoustic acts so come for us and stick around for the rest. You'll be in for a treat.

New Music... eventually. Now that Pirate Faire is over, John and I will have a little extra time to start recording songs in an attempt to put together a nice demo. First on the docket -- "Bromance". After that? Who knows. What other ICS songs (both original and traditional) would you like to see recorded? Drop your ideas on our wall or email us at IceCreamSocialDuo@gmail.co..m.

And as always, you can listen to our music and see a full schedule of upcoming ICS gigs at our Myspace page.

Take care and hope to see you at the upcoming shows!

Hey guys,

We have an exciting opportunity for our fans! We're giving away FOUR (4) free tickets for our All Asia show for this Sunday (6/28)... and by free we mean Justin's dad bought four tickets and now can't go, thereby donating them back to the Ice Cream Socialites. Unfortunate for Clan Aucoin, lucky for our fans.

Here's how you can win these tickets. The first four fans to e-mail us at IceCreamSocialDuo@gmail.co..m with the correct answer to our trivia question (below) will win one of the tickets. It's that simple!

The question: Name the characters Justin & John played in the 2009 New England Pirate Faire.

Do you know who we played at NEPF09 this year? If so, you can win free tix to our next gig!

Hint: Our previous updates, notes and status updates have the answer!

Don't win? Don't worry. You can still pre-order tickets from us for $8 or get in for $10 at the door. Be sure to say you're there to see the Ice Cream Social!

Best of luck and see you at the show!

Hey crew!

We have some great news! John and I are pleased to announce that we will be performing in the 2009 New England Pirate Faire this year (formerly the Salem Pirate Faire). This year's show will be held at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, MA on June 20th and 21st (Saturday & Sunday, respectively). Justin will be playing John King, a pirate part of Black Sam Bellamy's crew while John will take on the coveted role of Dr. Peter Blood (from Rafael Sabatini's novel Captain Blood).

Justin and John will be performing in the show's daylong storyline that includes plenty of swashbuckling for the Errol Flynn, Douglas Fairbanks & Johnny Depp in all of us; interacting, in character, with the audience members and patrons; and performing music throughout the day. So, if you see Justin and John with their instruments, be sure to bid them good-day and ask them to play a sea chantey or two. Just be ready to sing along!

Along with the daylong storyline and interactive bits, there will be a myriad of other acts and shows for patrons to enjoy, as well as a huge market place to get all your piratical and swashbuckling needs.

The show is most definitely family friendly (unlike a usual Ice Cream Social show), so bring your kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, parents, grandparents and any anyone else you can for a fun day. Here are the basics:

The What: The New England Pirate Faire
The Who: Justin & John and the rest of the NEPF cast
The When: Saturday June 20th and Sunday June 21st, 10am - 5pm
The Where: Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, MA
The Why: You love Ice Cream Social and pirates!
The Cost: $12 for adults, $10 for students, seniors & military, and $8 for children 4-12

For more details, visit the Official 2009 NEPF Facebook event page or visit PastimesEntertainment.com. You can also e-mail Justin & John at IceCreamSocialDuo@gmail.com or e-mail Pastimes at pastimes_world@yahoo.com.

This is the show that started what is now known as the Ice Cream Social, so mark your calendars for a day of piratical fun!
