Happy Friday to all my friends, both
real and virtual!
I love lazy days off, with agendas that
don't include anything more arduous than cleaning the kitchen or
making dinner. I'm lazy, i can't help it, so 2 days off from work is
a chance to catch up on all the nothing i need to do to keep my
spirits up.
I bought the latest Simpsons dvd set,
Season 11, a few days ago which always makes me happy. I do wish that
Fox would release sets a little more frequently but if thats whats
keeping the quality of the content up, then i can be patient.
One aspect of quality that has gone
down, however, is their choice for packaging for this set. They went
with a cardboard, accordion folding sleeves that are very tight and
there is no way to avoid scratching the dvds when you slide them out.
I'm going to have to find some other way to store them or they will
be unplayable in a years time.
I uploaded some old pics last night to
the Old Pics album here on myspace. There are some of me from when i
still lived in Tulare (76-81) and some more recent (90-2000) and one
or two i have taken over the last few days. I really need to go back
and rescan a lot of my old pics. I have learned quite a bit about
digital images and scanning since those were originally done and i
know i can get some much better scans this time around. First i need
to get a new scanner. I finally found my missing scanner only to find
that there are no Vista drivers for it so it's useless on this, the
only computer i have access to. If i were to acquire a Mac sometime
soon, i can use it again but thats not going to happen anytime in the
near future.
I finally got to see Pineapple Express
last night; very funny. I rented it a few days ago and finally got
around to watching it with Anthony. Seth Rogen is one of my new
heroes; the man can do almost no wrong right now. In fact, reading
the news this morning i learned he has written an episode of The
Simpsons in which he will also appear as a guest star. No word on
when the episode will air, but it will be months from now, as they
have not even had a table read of the script, which means they still
need to animate it. I'm looking forward to it because, in case you
were not already aware, he has written or co-written Pineapple
Express, Superbad, Drillbit Taylor and several episodes of Da Ali G
Show.
We are just a few weeks away from a
changing of the guard where we will get to drop that 'Elect-' prefix
and start saying President Obama. I'm very encouraged by the science
advisors he is surrounding himself with. Thankfully we will be passed
the days of the numerous schnanagins that the Bush administration is rightly accused of.
I'm also encouraged by the steps being taken to overturn Prop 8. i'm a little torn over the issue because
the voters DID speak and voted for the ban on gay marriage, but at
the same time, it's an unconstitutional act and should be thrown out.
There is no reason to write into the constitution an act of
discrimination. Especially discrimination based on a narrow view of
'Christian' morality. It's mean. It's hateful. And it's a fearful
response to the perception of the 'crumbling' of the idyllic version
of the American family. I still have not heard a decent argument to
why a family consisting of 2 same sex people is a threat, or makes a
'traditional family' somehow diminished? It doesn't make any sense...
I really want a new camera. I'm
eternally grateful to Chris for giving me his D60, and i use the shit
out of it, but when i use newer cameras, like the Rebel xti that i
borrow from work, i see the age and limitations of the D60, which is
a 7 year old camera. I thought i was about to get a KILLER deal on a
canon 40D but with all deals that are too good to be real, it most
likely was. One of my goals for 2009 is, among other things, buying
either a 40D if i can find a good deal, or the Rebel xsi or whatever
high-end Rebel is out at the time.
Speaking of goals, i have been thinking
a lot of my place in this world and where i'm headed with my life. I
keep coming back to Education as a possible career path. I think one
of the first things i will do is go see Mario's dad, who has been in
the fresno state university education department for years and years.
I think after talking to i'm i will have a better, more clear view of
where i would want to initially do and how to get there. I would like
to teach in a classroom for a few years while at the same time
studying the education system as a whole and see what changes can be
made; and boy, we need to make some big changes, quick.
Well, i think i've rambled on for long
enough today. I do need to clean my bathroom today, those damn cats
turn the floor into an awful mess with the catbox being in there.
They are lucky i love them to death.
