Suzanne again. How you doin? Yes, that was an homage to Joey from "Friends". I won't do it again, though. Promise.
I was looking at our myspace today ("Our myspace"? Is that correct?) and decided it was probably a good idea to talk about the reason we're here: the music. More specifically, the songs we have posted, and the meanings behind them from a lyrical standpoint. As far as the songs we have posted go, Stubs, Tj, and Jarrett sat down with their respective instruments and jammed until something came out of it. I sat there patiently, notebook in hand, scrawling whatever came to mind; typically, by the end of the session, we’d have an idea of how the song would go. I don’t know how most other people write, but the lyrics are not only what I’m feeling, but what I’ve seen; the experiences that influence them are not always first hand, while some others are. It simply depends on the song.
The Last Word- This song was the first we wrote as a group. As you can probably tell, I was ANGRY! I’m not at all a guy-hater (three of the closest people in my life are guys), but after seeing my best friend go through an absolutely horrendous breakup... well... it got me a little heated. (You’d have to know my best friend to really understand; she is the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet). The dudebro had the NERVE to ask for her back after breaking up with her, before deciding AGAIN that he didn’t want her, after leading her on for two more months and giving her a pair of boots for Christmas (which she kept; smart girl). This song is pretty much a words-and-melody middle finger to that particular guy. It’s also been called “I Gave You My Heart, and All I Got Was A Pair of Stupid Boots”, “You Think I’m Angry? Wait Til You See Suzanne”, and my personal favorite, “I Got A Real Man, and You Got Ten to Twelve For Statutory”.
Collide- Our most recent addition to the page is a song called “Collide”, which is actually a follow up to “The Last Word”. Stubs wrote the SICKEST riff I’ve heard in a long time, and the words just flowed super-easy. This song is taken from a conversation I had with my best friend as she was thinking about dating a new guy. We talked about taking things slow, about taking your time; there’s no need to rush love, right?
In My Head- The last of the three songs we have up, “In My Head” just might be my favorite. I love everything about it. The lyrics were inspired by the thought, “What would you do if you lost the person who matters most”. My imagination just ran with it; it became a scenario that was not at all pretty, and was actually a very upsetting place to be (I’m now fully recovered, thanks). It’s about the darker side of mourning, of not being able to cope with loss, which we all have or will face at some point in our lives. It talks about needing the person so much, you almost believe they are still there; in fact, you are clinging to the hope that, somehow, they are. Obviously, there’s a reason why this song was first dubbed, “The Creepy One”...
Wow... if you read all that, you are brave.
I hope this enhances your listening experience, now that you know the stories!!! And I just want to say again how much we appreciate each and every one of you; your support keeps us going. As always, let us know what you think, and don't be afraid to say what's up!!!
With love,
