The Earth's 6th Great Mass Extinction is Occurring as You Read This

"In one sense we know much less about Earth than we do about Mars. The vast majority of life forms on our planet are still undiscovered, and their significance for our own species remains unknown. This gap in our knowledge is a serious matter: we will never completely understand and preserve the living world around us at our present level of ignorance."

"If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos."

Scientists tell us that over the last half billion years, there have previously been 5 periods where massive numbers of the earth's species became extinct.

The first great extinction occurred around 440 million years ago and the culprit is thought to have been climate change. 85 percent of marine animal species disappeared.

The second great extinction happened around 370 million years ago with many species of fish and 70% of marine invertebrates vanishing. Again, climate change is thought responsible.

245 million years ago, the third great extinction occurred; the largest of all. 95 percent of all animal species perished. Climate change may have played a role.

210 million years ago saw another mass extinction primarily consisting of marine creatures, but also some land animals. This was the fourth great extinction.

The fifth great extinction, the one most of us are familiar with, occurred around 65 million years when dinosaurs ruled the planet. This extinction was possibly caused by the impact of a comet or a massive volcanic explosion that interfered with earth's ecosystem. Practically all dinosaur species disappeared and mammals emerged - and from those mammals, man evolved.

The sixth great extinction is now
- we are witnessing it; in fact for the first time in this planet's history, a single species is responsible - humans.  For there is little doubt that humans are the direct cause of ecosystem stress and species destruction in the modern world through transformation of the landscape, overexploitation of species, pollution, and the introduction of alien species.  It's an achievement of the worst possible kind.

While extinction is a normal part of evolution, the current extinction rate is anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than at any time over the past 60 million years. That being the case, I don't think this period of time being called the sixth great extinction is an exaggeration. Some say that the sixth great extinction will rival the third - 90-95% of all species will vanish over a very short period unless we dramatically change our ways.

Should anyone really care? Will it impact individuals on a personal level? Yes!

We are losing plant species useful for treating human illness before we even know their therapeutic value.  The cure and vaccination for cancer or AIDS that medicine has been searching so long for may become extinct before they are even discovered!!!

Aggressive cancer is mindless - it only consumes, destroys the host and in the process destroys itself. Cancer and humanity have a lot in common.

Religion Can Never Reform Mankind (but love, oneness and spirituality can)

Religions are stories developed to suit the political needs of the times.  Much like our governments, they work hard to keep us living in a state of constant fear.  They need our tax free money so they can continue to enslave communities in the name of God.

Religious establishments have caused bloodshed and spiritual fraud that serves to detach people from the natural world and likewise from each other.  It supports blind submission to authority.  It reduces human responsibility to the effect that God controls everything and in turn awful crimes can be justified in the name of divine pursuit.  And most importantly… it empowers those who know the truth but use the myth to manipulate and control society.

This is why religion can never reform humankind… because it is slavery.

Can you afford less than $1 per day to change the world?‏

"War is not a computer-generated missile striking a digital map. War is the color of earth as it explodes in our faces, the sound of child pleading, the smell of smoke and fear. Women survivors of war are not the single image portrayed on the television screen, but the glue that holds families and countries together. Perhaps by understanding women, and the other side of war...we will have more humility in our discussions of wars...perhaps it is time to listen to women's side of history."

Zainab Salbi, President and CEO of Women for Women International

PLEASE join me in sponsoring a woman survivor of war.

From Victim to Survivor... to Active Citizen:

What We Do

Women begin in our Sponsorship Program where direct financial aid from a sponsor helps them deal with the immediate effects of war and conflict such as lack of food, water, medicine and other necessities.

Exchanging letters with sponsors provides women with an emotional lifeline and a chance to tell their stories —maybe for the first time. As their situations begin to stabilize, women in our program begin building a foundation for their lives as survivors.

While continuing to receive sponsorship support, women embark on the next leg of the journey and participate in the Renewing Women’s Life Skills (ReneWLS) Program that provides them with rights awareness, leadership education and vocational and technical skills training. Women build upon existing skills and learn new ones in order to regain their strength, stability and stature on the path to becoming active citizens.

Women for Women International believes that establishing a means to earn a sustainable living is critical to being fully active in the life of a family, community and country. To help women transform their new skills into financial independence and sustainability, we offer job skills training to strengthen women’s existing skills and to introduce new skills in traditional and non-traditional fields so women can access future employment opportunities.

Building on the skills training program, we offer comprehensive business services designed to help women start and manage their own microenterprises. We give them access to capital and operate microcredit programs in ..Afghanistan.. and ..Bosnia.. & ....Herzegovina.... with an overall repayment rate of 98%. We give women access to markets by facilitating product sales through outside retailers. We provide expertise such as product design, production assistance and business development workshops. We also help women form micro-enterprises such as production facilities and cooperative stores to sell the goods women produce.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S. Office, we’re constantly working to provide technical assistance to our chapters, to support and empower our sponsors and sisters around the world, and to amplify women’s voices through our research, publications and action on current affairs

I think we all know that large pharmaceutical companies go to places like Africa and ..South America.., befriend the locals, talk to them about their hundred year old customs of using plants and herbs and then rush home to patent that information for themselves.

I think we all know that the profits derived from that knowledge cause drug companies to carelessly and completely rape the land in their greed.  Resulting in huge losses for the people – their homes, their farms, their livelihood and their customs while simultaneously destroying habitat for plants and animals.

I think we all know that the drugs derived from that knowledge never seem to make it back to the country/people from which it was stolen.

But did you know…

The stolen information results in $80 billion dollars per year in revenue for drug companies and only 1/1000th of 1% of that money makes it back to the indigenous people – maybe enough to buy a new motor for their fishing boat?

Just asking!
