You may have noticed that we have not been as active as usual for the past month or so.  This is absolutely the case.  I broke my arm and have been unable to do pretty much everything, including playing the drums.  This sucks.  We have had to turn down some pretty cool show offers, as well as cancel several existing shows.  To anyone who this has directly affected, I send my most sincere apologies.  I am healing as quickly as humanly possible, and had surgery that should limit the loss of mobility from this fracture.  I have three pins holding my arm together, as you can see in this picture.

.. ..

That being said, we have some cool stuff on the horizon and will be back in action soon.  The new album “If You Want Peace Prepare For Class War” is out now on Useless World Records.  You can buy it locally at most record stores.  You can also buy it from interpunk.com if you don’t live in Indiana.  If you are like my mom and using your credit card on the Internet freaks you out, you can also contact us, or Useless World records and we will get a copy to you.

.. ..

Also, we have started booking a 30-day west coast tour in January.  We will be gone from January 1st to 30th.  If you live anywhere between Indiana and the Pacific Ocean and have any interest in bringing us to your town, feel free to contact us!  I am not sure exactly how long it will be until my arm is all the way healed, but we will get back to business as usual as soon as we can.  There are going to be some other new changes and updates sometime after the January tour and we have some ideas about several new releases including a split or two, and possibly a vinyl release.  Stay tuned.

Bolth has a page on Facebook now. You can find us by searching pages/musicians for "Bolth," and we should show up. If you're having trouble, search for me, John Saxen, and we'll work it out.

We won't be playing as many shows in the near future cause we're busy working on our next album. We're hoping to have it out in the summer. The shows we do play will have new songs guarranteed to bring teh rage. We'll also have new shirts and other merch.

Don't be a stranger!

I'm sure many people here have heard a friend say something like, "nah, I don't eat KFC cause they're really bad to their animals," or "don't eat at Cracker Barrell cause they've got a history of homophobia."

The idea was to create a zine/reference that outlines as many of these issues as possible, particularly with animal rights, human rights, and environmental concerns. That way people can add a little activism into most of their daily spending habits.

It's not a primer, nor is it exclusive to radical activists. I think the generality of this effort is it's advantage. It's also not trying to convince anyone of any ideals. It's just quick direction for people who already want to do something.

I also want to get bands involved, and I'd like to limit it to bands who have something to say. I'd like to interview people, or maybe have articles about what someone's lyrics mean, etc. Bands could run ads for extremely cheap, as I'm just trying to help with printing costs (though I fully expect to lose money on this).

Also, if possible, I'd like to have a forum for this so people could centralize somewhere to talk about the issues addressed.

The zine is going to be called ConsCons which stands for Conscious Consumers. The first issue should be out December 13th, right around when Bolth leaves for tour.

If you want to help, if you have any ideas, or if you have any criticism, please msg me. Thanks! -- JS

Only recently has Indianapolis developed a solid punk scene, and Bolth is at the front of the movement. If you live anywhere in central Indiana and you like punk music and are interested in local acts, than chances are you know about Bolth. Sadly, outside of Indiana, few people have had the good fortune to really listen to these Naptown rockers.

Their second album, Short-Sighted is light years ahead of their previous album, Ten Shakes of a Lamb's Tail, for many reasons. The vocals and the lyrics now have some weight to them. Lightly sung skatepunk ditties have evolved into angry, politically-charged hardcore anthems. But this is no 180 turn for Bolth -- it is a natural progression.

The intro to the album does not sound unlike a one-minute clip of a Leftover Crack track, which kind of sets the mood for what kind of progression the band has since their Ten Shakes days. The rest of the album shows the influence of Bad Religion, NOFX, Rise Against and some more Leftover Crack oozes through as well.

"American Idoless" shows the band flexing their ska-punk biceps as they go from angry punk to flawless reggae in a perfect fashion. "Summer of Nicotine" is a straight reggae song -- well, as far as a hardcore band is concerned. The real fire-starter of the album, however, is the riotous anti-Capitalism anthem, "Disposable Outcome," which features guest vocals from Gnat Cummings of the Five Second Cummings and Mitch from Dead in Marseille, both great local Naptown hardcore acts. Short-Sighted ends perfectly with the angrily somber "Recruitment Office," where the band bemoans the military and the senseless death that results from jingoism.

Short-Sighted is an ironic title for an album that demonstrates how much potential Bolth has. This is a step in the right direction. Keep an eye out for the next Bolth record, because it's bound to be even better.
