SLAMSEASON vol III 2009 CD Coyote Records Argh! Next massacre under the banner of SLAMSEASON! This time all much killer than last time. Last time there were grindcore bands, and now there are brutal death ones, and all of them are very good! So, First comes Greek MORTAL TORMENT, with 3 pretty tasty, memorable and just killer brutal death metal hymns. Music is made in old way, without any modern sweet touches and melodies. Consisting with such vortex-like guitar riffs, massive drumming, horror atmosphere and pretty good growl, made by nice girl Rita (yeah, last time we can see tons of bands with “frontwoman”, he-he). All in all their music is made on good level, starting with good technical skills and ending with just pretty catching stuff… These 3 songs will be often guest there in your stereo! Next are Russian SUFFERATORY, which are show to the world how they can create sick music! If you didn't heard them still, then you should know that SUFFERATORY's musick is also brutal death metal, made in common and old-school way. Filled with tight rhythm-section, good drumming and dense bass lines! Made in various tempos, and with excellent sickest slowdowns they will be good for your brutal ears too! Next, DEMISE from Philippines , with its 2 tracks of good old-school brutal death metal. Here's “reach” musick too, made in sick and dense way. Be prepared for blasting drumming, cutting guitar riffs and power growls. Also I like a lot their ala old CANNIBAL CORPSE sick guitar solos, which forced to bang your head! Also CANNIBAL CORPSE was remembered due DEMISE music is highly inspired by these beasts, no, they aren't copying CC, they just playing in their way, and made very well! And the last band is UNBURIED from USA . Coming with its 4 short tracks made in brutal death grind way. Their music isn't bad too, made with really sickest attitude! Don't wait for something new or progressive from this horde, but be prepared just for pure chaotic and sick massacre, which you'll like if you are into such MORTICIAN, IMPETIGO, CARCASS etc… All in all he split is more than highly recommended for all sick minds! 4/5 Contact (MT): mortaltorment@hotmail.com, www.mortaltorment.com Contact (S): sufferatory@mail.ru, www.myspace.com/sufferatory Contact (D): www.myspace.com/demise Contact (U): UNBURIED, 849 Sundance Mountain Road , New Market , VA , 22070 , USA / unburied2002@yahoo.com, www.myspace.com/unburieddeathmetal | |

Unburied - Slut Decapitater - Metalbolic records (2008). Matt Pike - Tri-tracheal abuse/Sixfold axe of disgust/Sordid samples/Putrid proscriptions, Mark Riddick - Fourfold finger-licking foulness/Raunchy renderings, Brian Forman - Human flesh punisher/Bone-crushing beats/Gravity-blast groin churnings. First off a couple of personal thanx to some well liked motherfuckers: Craig Newman (CDN records), who I get a lot of my brutal ass shit from. Thanx for recommending this slab of classic old school brutality. Unburied for releasing such a wicked ass release in the first place. 1 of my favorite releases for 2008. This is old school death metal with modern takes on brutality. Tight, heavy and well layed out. This is a style I would luv to see make a bigger impact on death metal once again. Classic, heavy and brutal with melodic hooks. They do not sound like Incantation, but the uncomprimising factor of not bending to any trends is there. Thank the lord Satan for that! Nothing is hiding under any other instrument on this 1. Guitar rumblings showcase honest playing and respect to old school metal. Slow passages build into some crushing riffs induced with speed and heaviness not seen since a certain giant gorilla marched through New York. King Kong eat your heart out ya bastard! haha More solos would have been nice, but for the mass carnage making a point they are not really needed. Bass castrations are not buried under drums or guitar here. It shows itself with tasty florishes at times while keeping the songs nasty and down right heavy. Just check out "Domicle Of Flesh" for a treat of good bass work. Your mom couldn't be prouder. heh Drums keep the tunes in the times while at certain times classic double bass and blasts make the sky crack and your pants fill with shit(Ask your sister to change your diaper.). Again it's the build-ups leading into dangerous speeds and crippling crunches. Spendid! Just 1 or 2 more bounces off the wall and you should get the idea. Vocal trade-offs between highs and lows are thought out well. They will keep your ass moving with the screams and lows punching through your gut. Well done. Enjoy the pro-job on this maniac. Like I spelled out before nothing is left under anything else. The volume is loud and puncturing. You will not be sad with the levels done in here. Remember, you don't have to go thrash to have that old school feeling running through your albums. Death metal from back in the day will do it to ya as well. I like thrash, but here old school mixed with touches of blasting wit is a fine ass tribute to some great metal. Horns high fuckers!! 9 out of 10 for this nailed induced coma. Here's to the metal brethren... for once in your life stop following what's trendy in metal and stand up for what you honestly like. Keep it sick!!! Some sites to whack off to: unburiedband@yahoo.com, www.myspace.com/unburieddeathmetal and metal@metalbolicrecords.com, www.metalbolicrecords.com. Now say your prayers and worship yourself... | ..

Unburied + Seeking Obscure
Split CD
Metalbolic Records, 2006
This is a group effort to get the music of two bands out to the public, not a bad idea and yet not an original idea either. But still, truly well worth the time to check out.
I think that the cd must have been sitting around the Metal Storm den of operations for some time, otherwise the record company sent a dated disk. Normally, I would forego reviewing a collection of music that could already be nearly three years old but after hearing a few songs, I could not pass this up.
Take a journey with me and think back to the first time you heard something as black as Venom, Sadus, Cannibal Corpse…you know where I am going. You put your stereo on in your room and after hearing it, you had to look behind you a few times to make sure that you weren't playing the soundtrack to your own execution…is it just me or is Unburied like an evil underground superhero for the criminally insane and gore-hungry murderers? wtf?!? Give Unburied a listen to fully understand what I mean, especially the song 'End it With a Knife'. But, go to their MySpace page as I did to hear the full band and their newer material. Their fanbase loves them and constantly leave messages begging for more. Listen to 'Slut Decapitator' the title track to their latest release. Truly, it is a cure for sanity!
Truly, this release doesn't come close to what I encountered on both bands sites. Not to say that the Split CD sucks, it is just that for as talented as these guys are, this cd was done when there was only two guys in the band (Matt Pike and Mark Riddick) and a drum machine. But I will give it to them and say that what they did on the disk is very well done. Unburied is a great example of underground death/black metal insanity. But be advised, this is not for the weak.
Birthed into the darkness of Sheridan, Wyoming is the one-man death metal effort of Seeking Obscure. Rob Luckie is destined for a padded room for creating such dark music. Rob handles all vocals, drums (real) guitar, 6-string bass and added keyboard effects…and handles each pretty damn good.
On the split disk 'Hybrid Artillery' and the Cancer cover of 'Die! Die!' shine the blackest luminosity into the darkest corners of your worse fears. But take a visit to his MySpace page gives way to the recent material of his twisted thoughts.
Overall, thanks to this split cd, I will soon have in my possession both band's newest stuff. So I guess Metalbolic Records accomplished what they set out to do.

Though they've existed since 1994, Virginia gore grind/death metal band Unburied have only just now released their full length debut. Entitled Slut Decapitator, this group mixes fast and furious grind with mid-tempo death metal that features prominent bass work. And though death metal fans aren't likely to call this release one of the best of the year, it's a decent throwback to a time when death metal and gore grind wasn't entirely focused on pure technicality and offered sheer thrills and a great sense of brutality.
With a title like Slut Decapitator it is likely you are expecting some gore grind before even putting this release on, and you'd definitely be write. However, Unburied's music is about three quarters gore grind and one quarter mid tempo death metal. There are plenty of times when the drums are pounding away at insane tempos, but it's nice to see that this album offers more than just relentless blast beats. A couple of the songs slow the tempo down to mid range and make prominent use of the bass, reminiscent of older death metal (when it still had a dominant rock influence). This works well, and although the album is over all too quickly listeners will still enjoy it.
The vocals on Slut Decapitator are a mix of death metal growls and higher pitched black metal screaming. This admittedly isn't any different from the numerous other gore grind/death metal bands out there but still fits in well with the instrumentals. It is worth mentioning that the pairing of these two vocal styles does give Unburied an even more brutal and heavy sound though, as the two vocalists always offer plenty of aggression. Unburied also makes use of quite a few sound clips, and though this is common among gore grind bands the ones here do fit the ideas on the album.
Unburied are a competent band, and the mid tempo songs showcase that they are more than just a straightforward gore grind ensemble. Slut Decapitator is worth a listen for fans of this style, but unfortunately it just feels a little too short. However, I would definitely put these guys near the B level of gore/death bands out there and hopefully they won't take another 14 years to put out a follow up full length album as there is quite a bit of potential that could be explored further down the road.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
If you are familiar with underground death metal chances are you have come across the name numerous times. Although the band has been together since 1994, this is actually the band's debut full length album. Well worth the wait, the album is a slab of barbaric and simplistic in nature death metal that brings back fond memories of the mid 90's underground death metal scene. Forget about the ridiculously technical death metal of today. This is fast and blistering yet the band uses riffing that is dark in tone and very old school in nature.
Tempo changes are also quite common and the band uses a lot of tempos that are not really used in death metal these days. There are a lot of middle of the road tempos that actually utilize groove to great effect. It reminds you of the days when death metal wasn't all about blast beats and breakdowns. Blasting is indeed here and quite often at that but never to the point of monotony. I like the fact that the band really doesn't have any formulas for their songs. The songs are all built on similar ideas but each song has key riffs that help separate the songs.
I also like the fact that Unburied keeps the songs rather short and sweet. Aside from one song which is over 4 minutes, most songs are in between a minute and a half and three minutes. This really allows the band to keep the energy level high and because of that this is an album that will keep your interest quite easily. There is no filler here, just song after song of primitvie brutality that comes highly recommended by yours truly.
