Hey All, I wanted to fill you in on a few of the things we've been working on in between shows this year. As some of you who have attended recent shows lately may have noticed, there are a bunch of new songs kicking around....Well earlier this year I got a group of friends together and we made a record out of these new tunes in an old Victorian house out here in San Francisco.
For various reasons (ie- different sound, more of a group dynamic, I'm tired of correcting people's pronunciation of my last name (etc.)) I've decided to give this album a project moniker or band name rather than release it as another "Ryan Auffenberg" album. The project is named "Halsted" after the first street I ever lived when I started playing music in Chicago.
We're still trying to figure out a whole heap of details about exactly how and when these songs are going to come out. But for the time being, I've created a myspace page (www.myspace.com/halstedmusic) for folks to stop by and hear a few of the songs of this new album and read even more gory details about how this came into being. We're also going to be playing shows under this new name, so you can expect to see some updates in that department in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, If you guys happened to stop by our little page, requested to be our friend and maybe checked out a few new songs, well we'd just love that. We're really quite proud of them.
Hope all is well with you,
Ryan

Hope to see you there!

Hello All,
Just wanted to let you know that tomorrow evening, a tune of mine called "Dizzy Spells" is going to be featured in the season premiere of "Private Practice" on ABC. The show will air on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 9/8c on your local ABC station. I've posted the song on my MySpace player if those of you who have not yet heard it would like to check it out.
Also, that following day, eMusic will be featuring that very same song as their "Download of the Day". Visit www.emusic.com this Thursday, Oct 2nd to download the song for free.
Last, for those of you who have not yet bought the new album "Marigolds" and would like to order the CD rather than go the digital download route, we've just made some CDs available for sale via CDBaby. Visit www.cdbaby.com/ryanauff3 to order.
Hope all is well with you and please check back soon for more updates!

Hello All,
First off, thanks to everbody who came out to the shows on this tour the past month or so. It was great to get out and see you all.
Just a little heads up that "Undercover" was featured in USA Today's "Weekly Pics" section this week. If you'd like to check it out, click on the following link...
http://blogs.usatoday.com/listenup/2008/08/this-weeks-pl-1.html
Also, while we were wrapping up the tour last week, I stopped by 107.1 The Peak in New York for a little chat and in studio performance. Chris Bro, one of the fine DJ's at the station has posted the interview and a few photos on their website and will be airing the performance in the coming weeks. I'll keep you all posted on the air date as those details become available. In the meantime, here is the link to the interview/photos.

"Marigolds"
She lies down in the marigolds 'Cause there's no better place to fall She's tired of trying to be someone Hey baby, aren't we all
She's waiting on a miracle She knows might never come
She's crying all hysterical At the setting of the sun 'Cause she hates when things die
And she thought more would come She's not fine, she's just numb I've got nowhere to run I'll stay here a while
The lies we told were terrible And we weren't fooling anyone But what's the harm in telling them? She says that everyone's got some They help you get by
And she thought more would come (By this point in time) She's not fine she's just numb (And tired of crying) I've got nowhere to run I'll stay here a while
And she thought more would come (By this point in time) She's not fine she's just numb (And tired of crying) I've got nowhere to run I'll stay here a while
She lies down in the marigolds 'Cause there's no better place to fall She's tired of trying to be someone Hey baby, aren't we all
"Undercover"
Don't you cry for me tonight I've the devil in my mouth Quit your love without a fight You know I'll only let you down
We got by Going undercover Laying low But the rain was tapping at your door There's something about the thunder And the way it rolls I can't help it There's somewhere else I've gotta go
Don't you love those city nights That's the sweetest sound I know But I still wake up feeling like I'm a million miles from home
And we got by Going undercover Laying low But the rain was tapping at your door There's something about the thunder And the way it rolls I can't help it There's somewhere else I've gotta go
Please don't hate me I've been doing the best I can Tying all I know But something takes me, I swear It's keeping me alone
We got by Going undercover Laying low But the rain was tapping at your door There's something about the thunder And the way it rolls I can't help it There's somewhere else I've gotta go There's somewhere else I've gotta go
"Interstate"
It's hidden by your charm and a pretty face But when they handed you your cards You thought it'd be much clearer Counting the cars on the interstate We're lining our jackets with hopes For better living, for better days
And from that look on your face This ain't the kind of place I'd call a home
You take a drag off your cigarette And balk at a pose Like you haven't spoke your mind yet We'll take a drive to the county line With a box full of cloves And some clementines in season Or when spring's in bloom
Just say the time and place And an afternoon we'll waste I wanna go
"Deep Water"
Some moments stay with you And some don't Some things you wish you'd do But you won't
Deep water grows cold The further down you swim Deep love is for growing old It might not come again
The time that you have spent Has flown The time that you have left You don't know
Deep water grows cold The further down you swim Deep love is for growing old It might not come again
"Pictures (Of Someone Else)"
Part of me Thinks what you are ain't what's in front of me And when I leave Will I be a secret you'd prefer to keep?
Darlin' take your heart of the shelf Think I don't see The pictures of someone else?
The city streets And everything I see is new to me For seven weeks This lonesome highway's been a home to me
Darlin' take your heart of the shelf Think I don't see The pictures of someone else?
Truth is this life Is different than I'd hoped Never would have known it Truth is I'd trade it For a little bit of hope That I won't be alone
If we were to meet Some other way, would you have looked at me? And pardon me If I'm not the way that you thought I would be
Darlin' take your heart off the shelf You're fooling nobody but yourself If you think I don't see The pictures of someone else
"Curtain Call"
Don't cry The days seem long, but it's all in your mind I lied My looks were cold, but I am on your side
You did what you were told And it broke your heart Counting all the Bills in your fold And you played your part perfect But when you got home The curtain call left scars
Old times Feels like so long, since we were young and blind
You did what you were told And it broke your heart Counting all the Bills in your fold And you played your part perfect But when you got home The curtain call left scars
Something I should have said Long ago and it's weighing me down You shouldn't feel alone
You did what you were told And it broke your heart Counting all the Bills in your fold And you played your part perfect But when you got home All alone The curtain call left scars
"Waking Up Alone"
I've been waking up alone To a cheap radio In a room that I call my home That's now how it feels Your voice is clear on the phone It lays where your head used to go And the walls are faded and cold When you're not here
Oh, I get what I want Then I cannot feel So I throw it away Then the hurt's for real
I've been waking up from dreams Where people hover over me I've gotta rub my eyes and then blink To prove they're not real And I owe you an apology This isn't how I thought it'd be I'm either bored of I'm lonely It's my own fate I seal
Oh, I get what I want Then I cannot feel So I throw it away Then the hurt's for real
You say that love is unclear And things can seem far when they're near A mirror with fog for veneer I forget how love feels
Oh, I get what I want Then I cannot feel So I throw it away Then the hurt's for real
Oh, I get what I want Then I cannot feel So I throw it away Then the hurt's for real
"Half Forgotten Love"
I could lock it up Hold my stupid tongue But I would toss and turn all night So I'm gonna start a fight That thing you said about him It's been burning up my skin You've been saying you've moved on But darlin' it ain't been that long
Before you know it A song comes on the radio And the love you thought had flown Rises up Tell me when I hold you close Do my arms feel like the ghost Of a half forgotten love?
Honey I'll admit These thoughts will be my end I've been playing scenes all dark Tortured by a jealous heart
Before you know it A song comes on the radio And the love you thought had flown Rises up Tell me when I hold you close Do my arms feel like the ghost Of a half forgotten love?
You keep saying You don't love him So I should let it go
Before you know it A song comes on the radio And the love you thought had flown Rises up Tell me when I hold you close Do my arms feel like the ghost Of a half forgotten love?
"Dizzy Spells"
Hold your breath The water's cold at first Most don't swim Just drink to quench their thirst Life and love and choosing what they're worth Streams narrow and rip tides toss and turn
Treading out to brave the swells If you live your life for dizzy spells Then I can't be the first to tell you You might drown
When no one knows you It can feel like you're cursed By saying so That spell you might reverse But when they all love you And nothing ever hurts You'll never be The one that they loved first
Treading out to brave the swells If you live your life for dizzy spells Then I can't be the first to tell you You might drown
Though they're just passers by Their daggers hurt But until they've jumped in too What are they worth
Treading out to brave the swells If you live your life for dizzy spells Then I can't be the first to tell you You might drown But don't break down
"Alright, Okay"
Lay off the novocaine 'Cause you've been asleep for days It hurts, but it'll go away Almost the first of May And San Francisco Bay Is all swollen up from last night's rain So if you just come down We'll get out of town Take a breath and drive all day
Alright, okay Just have some faith It's alright, okay You'll get what you want Just say you're gonna stay
She called me just to say She'd thought of me all day But Ohio seems so far away When I go to sleep I dream And the mountain ranges seem So high between where we both lay And Anna sighed at me She said it might not seem Like it, but things will be
Alright, okay Just have some faith It's alright, okay You'll get what you want Just say you're gonna stay
Alright, okay Just have some faith It's alright, okay You'll get what you want Just say you're gonna You'll get what you want Just say you're gonna stay
Lay off the novocaine 'Cause you've been asleep for days It hurts, but it'll go away
