Well, it's been almost two weeks and we've been playing the hell out of the songs on the new album as we swung through New England and the Upper Midwest and we've been havin' a ball. Headin' way down South (remember that one?) for a couple of shows this weekend before we get on that big plane again and bring the new stuff to Europe for three weeks. In the meantime, check out some of the early review of the new album and get yourself a copy, why don'tcha?

Sean Maloney in Nashville Scene -- "There are albums you look forward to, and then there are albums you look forward to—the sort that inspire puddles of drool and wistful gazes at the mere mention of their imminent release. Burn It Down fell firmly in the latter category"

Justin Cober-Lake in Pop Matters -- "The Dynamites and ecstatic frontman Charles Walker succeed in its retro act because, while the band is strongly grounded in classic soul and Walker got his start in the ‘60s, the band does its own thing"

Jedd Ferris in Blurt -- "Burn It Down turns up the heat and delivers a James Brown throwdown that should be the dance-party disc of the year"

Ted Drozdowski in Boston Pheonix -- "[T]he final surprises are 'The Third Degree' and 'The Real Deal,' which blend Studio One, Motown, and Stax as if the geographical and stylistic boundaries separating those legendary labels had never existed."

Noel Walker in the A.V. Club -- "Walker has a likeably earthy, expressive voice, and The Dynamites are a tight, punchy combo capable of J.B.’s-level vamps like 'Treadneck' and 'The Third Degree,' marked by complex rhythms and quick changes"

Jeff Hinkle in Las Vegas City Life (scroll down) -- "It has been a long time since we've heard this sort of deep grooved, superbad brashness. And Walker and his Nashville-based colleagues bring it, make us hungry for the say-it-loud soul of late period Stax, while simultaneously satisfying our cravings."

Thanks for all those kind words, y'all, and we hope to keep 'em coming as we hit the road burning it down from coast-to-coast and across the oceans! Keep doin' it with soul, y'all!

Just a quick reminder, y'all. The Dynamites are hitting the home stage this Saturday, March 28th at the ever-decadent Mercy Lounge. Work on the new record has been all-consuming lately, so the usual cyber-shout-outs on the shows have taken a bit of a back seat, but we still got time to whip up this little MySpace heads-up lickity-split so all you funky people don't have to go thirsty this weekend.

Lots of new stuff debuting on this show, with high probability of some "forewarnings" of the second batch of Dynamites' detonators now being assembled for the next release.

Of special note--Opening the show is a brand new, blazing hot instrumental funky soul band led by The Dynamites' own Chris West. Don't miss the superbad debut of the hot new funky junky sounds of The Junkyard Horns. It's Outta Sight. So be there by 9 p.m. for the whole experience.

The Dynamites hit the road after this for quite a while, and the next home stand might not happen until the fall, so come n' get it this weekend.

And if you're outta range for this one, then we hope this invite finds you well and we'll see you in your town sooner than later. Feel free to forward this email and help the good love-spreadin'.

And a couple of "blurbs," I guess you'd call these: Four shows happening in New Orleans all through Jazz Fest and after (check our main profile page for specifics)...Back to Europe for the month of July...Southeast, Midwest, and Colorado in May and June...Working on the new record full-on...Do it with soul...

The Dynamites will be rollin' into town this Saturday night, January 24th to keep this big ol' celebration of the presidency of your native son going strong.

Join us at Schuba's Tavern on Southport Ave., where we'll be tearin' it up into the late-night hours. We're also pleased to tell you that we'll be joined by special guests Andre Williams and the Goldstars, who are gonna get y'alls' feet and other parts loosened up and movin' when we hit the Schuba's stage for the first time since last July. Come join the Black Godfather, the Dynamites and soul legend Charles Walker as we keep this Barack-and-Roll party goin'!

THANK YOU COLUMBUS FOR A KILLER SOUL PARTY LAST NIGHT!!

I don't know if these blogs ever get read by the people they are intended for, but let me just go out there and say Columbus, OH is a DYNAMITE CITY!! What an incredible time we all had last night at The Ravari Room.

A big thanks to all of you for coming out, filling that room up, and shaking your bodies throug the WHOLE show! THE BLUE STATE OF OHIO IS WAAAAAAAAAAAY FUNKY!!

We don't always post after shows, but I just wanted to go out here and give massive thanks to you all, because you were one of the BEST audiences we have ever had on this side of the Atlantic.

Now everyone, DO IT WITH SOUL, and we will be back very, very, very, very soon.

We love you all and can't wait to get down with y'all again, so keep spreading the good word and lighting the fuse.

Next time around, we'll have a bunch of new material because we're working on the new record. So there's some extra incentive. ; )

Seriously, thanks to all of you. The view from the stage was so beautiful, and we were honored to provide the heat on a cold, cold, cold night.

Peace,

Leo

Current mood:  ecstatic
Five dates into this tour and we are flying high, y'all!

Everyone in the band wants to send back some of the love we've been show at every stop so far. If they ever say Germany or the U.K. ain't funky, we're gonna be the first ones in line tellin' 'em to shut their damn fool mouths, 'cause y'all people know how to do it right.

We want to thank all the staff folks and promoters at all the venues we've played so far. It's been our great pleasure to be greeted with amazing crowds and that doesn't just happen by accident. We especially want to thank Corrina Greyson and all the people at G-Spot Productions and the Jazz Cafe in London for making our U.K. debut such a great time and, hopefully, a big success. It may have taken us a while to get to you the first time, but lemme be the first to tell ya, we ARE coming back and coming back SOON!

For everyone who hasn't gotten their chance to be in the neighborhood when the Dynamites explode, the rest of our tour ain't gonna be no different in its energy and intensity, so take a look at the dates below and make yourself some plans to do it with SOUL in the next two weeks!
