Well, stop the press anyway. GridLink isn't doing interviews for the foreseeable future. Thanks for your inquiries, but we're just slammed with our various projects.

As we completed work on track 10 of Orphan, it became very obvious we would need a second guitar player to pull off the multi-track compositions that Takafumi had been creating. We tried a few different candidates but finally, one has stuck.

We are happy to share that Steve Procopio has joined GridLink as guitar 2. You might know Steve from his work in Human Remains or seen him on tour with Discordance Axis in 97 and 2001.

On a personal note, it's pretty great working with Steve again, what with our aborted attempt as a grind band, War Chalking, and our years of friendship before/during and after, I am very much looking forward to what Steve has in store for us.

Orphan is shaping up to be a much different record than Amber Gray...just as fast, but a whole new animal. See you at MDF :)

Hi All

Real quick hits here. We've been getting a lot of offers for shows of late and here's the deal. We're not going to be playing any live shows in 2010 because we're still working on the new LP.

The new Hayaino Daisuki is completed and at the printer. We are waiting for proofs. The first version will be vinyl only and will drop in August 09. Side A will be the 4 new tracks and Side B will be Headbanger's Karaoke Club (for all you vinyl people who were harassing us for a vinyl version on tour). Stand alone CD will hit in October I think?

GridLink has added Dorian Rainwater as a second guitar to the band. Dorian is also now in Hayaino Daisuki which means that the 2 bands now share everyone except the drummers and Michelle. If you want to book a festival, it is best to book both bands because the cost of having the second band is minimal.

The line-ups are:

Jon Chang. Vocals
Takafumi Matsubara. Guitar
Dorian Rainwater. Guitar
Ted Patterson. Bass
Bryan Fajardo. Drums

Michelle Bowlin. Vocals (HD)
Eric Schnee. Drums (HD)

As for Orphan, there are 2 finished tracks and between 11-13 incomplete tracks. We are currently planning to record in Feb-March 2010.

There will be a vinyl release of this LP that will also include a bonus 12" of Amber Gray. We are planning to make the Amber Gray vinyl a 2 sided release with side A being the original mix (no bass) and side B being a new mix with a bass track by Ted Patterson. This will be a very limited release.

This new mix of Amber Gray will also be made available on CD. We are discussing a special box edition of Orphan which would include Orphan and the Amber Gray remix + have space for the original. This would likely be a limited, pre-order only type thing.

And one of these days I will finally send Hydrahead the new shirt designs I completed for both bands ^_^;

One of the things I've consistently heard about the GridLink LP is that it's $13 for 11 minutes of music and it should cost what a 7" ep costs. I am not even going to get into how white trash Walmart made in China that sounds to me...oh wait. I am going to get into it.

This is quite simple. We spent a lot of time and money to get the music/artwork/packaging just the way we wanted it. It was a labor of love, blood and intense devotion over the course of about 3 years with almost a dozen people(musicians, artists and technicians) contributing their time and efforts to the project. (Honestly HD is the same, but more on that another time).

The work stands as a complete body and we consider it a full length release. Most bands have filler songs on their records, but not us. Every song on that record is the result of intense scrutiny and editing. When we started there were almost 20 songs. We threw half in the garbage because we only wanted the best material on the record and refused to accept what we considered only a "decent song".

It also does not come in some shitty generic packaging that looks like every other metal/grind record you have ever seen. It is not loaded with label names and sponsor companies. It is not the over produced garbage that seems to be the norm these days recorded on pro-tools by someone who thinks you need a week to get your fucking sounds down.

If your standards for a good investment of $13 is 25+ minutes of music for your money, go somewhere else. Oh and fucking kill yourself too you pathetic fuck. Maybe you can buy some clothing with lead in it made by people who get less than a $1 a day in a place where the government is totally hostile to democratic process. In short, fuck you.

This is our art. Take or leave it. Oh, and fuck you again :-P

Hola Folks

I wanted to thank everyone who's come out to see us play so far but I also wanted to apologize to the folks in Philly. There were many people who had asked us to hold items at our merch booth and one woman who had asked to get a few photos, etc.

At the time, we thought none of this would be a problem.

The man at the door then told us that the street that The Kyhber is ..s at 2 am, IE we would not be able to get onto the street to load out. So we frantically started packing up and ran out the door to get our vehicles.

About 30 minutes later, we made it back only to be immediately hassled by Philly's outsourced parking force who proceeded to give out tickets to our vehicles. We actually went and tracked down real police to try and get them to not give us tickets, since we were loading out of a club on the street and trying to leave...The police sided with us but they had no authority over the out sourced meter maids...who still gave us the ticket!

We ended up leaving the second the van was packed to avoid further tickets. Honestly, we were so pissed and trying avoid losing any more money to the out source army (it was almost 3/4 of the money we got paid to play) that we completely forgot about anything else (especially trying to navigate the streets - when the key ones in our directions were closed ^o^).

So sorry if we ditched any of you. We weren't blowing you off!! Thanks again for coming. I hope you liked it :)

Current mood:  contemplative
We get a fair amount of email/comments asking when will GridLink come to (your town/area).

I'll be honest here. We're not coming. Ever. Well maybe not ever. But not for many years.

This is not personal.

GridLink and Hayaino Daisuki only get to meet up about 2 weeks a year. That means, we are extremely tight for time and we always want to work on new material and record stuff. This year we are opting to record a new HD ep and then the 5 shows we have on the plate.

It was difficult to get these shows and it is prohibitively expensive to play much beyond this radius. That said, we are planning a Japan tour in 09. We might stop over for 1 show in LA but it is highly unlikely. For us to do some shows in CA we would need a $700 a night guarantee just to cover our costs. That is a lot of $ and the odds of us getting it for our 15 minute set are pretty low.

What this means is simple. Like DA, the best and likely only way to see a performance is to fly to us. See you on the road. Up the Singularity!
