Evening boys and girls,
I just finished my second viewing of Star Trek. Just as good the second time. Time travel is a brilliant way to do anything...i hope that becomes a reality in my lifetime. (looking up i realize the Family Guy where Brian and Stewie travel back to WWII Poland...if only i were a cartoon) I digress...
Today, i've been thinking about a pretty striking line from "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley. The line goes:
"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds"
To avoid making mountains of molehills I thought it best to start with a mountain. My dad hosts a local radio show and shared a political profundity last Wednesday that transcended politics to me. Listening to an unveiling of the purpose behind "The Fairness Doctrine," put in place to empower free speech in our country. It puzzles me how citizens are so ignorant of the ACLU and many powerful politician's attempted bastardization of a potentially helpful system.
I'll put it simply. There are laws being voted on to equalize the expression of spiritual, moral, and ethical belief in private enterprise. For instance, if you were to get on the radio and say "Buddha is the true God," the appropriate government appointed board would be empowered to determine what other opposing opinion you are forced to express as well.
What does this have to do with Redemption Song? Everything. Only YOU have the power to express your belief, and you are FREE to do so. But you can't express what you don't have the knowledge of. My encouragement for today is to explore what you believe, and stand up for it. This is the emancipation of your mind, your body, and our world.
Talk to you soon.
Philip
