IAN MOORE
LIVE @ ANTONE'S (Austin)
THURSDAY, MAY 1st

Holy mother of re-invention, batman!

Ian Moore returns to Antone's to support his critically acclaimed album To Be Loved.

Tune in to KGSR Thursday morning to hear Ian live on the air!

I'm so smitten with Ian Moore's latest album and his musical journey that I want to share the experience with you.

I've got 5 pair of tickets to the show for those interested in expanding your creative minds!

The first 5 people who email me and tell me "what it's like to be loved" will win a pair of tickets!
Please be sure to include your full name as it appears on your valid id
Must be 18+ to win

Winners will be notified via email and tickets will be left at the door

Here's a nice review that sums it up all up for me...

City Beat, August 2007 Grade: A
Nearly a decade and a half ago, guitarist Ian Moore managed to distinguish himself from the other skadillion six-stringers in Austin, Tex., scoring a plum deal with Capricorn and spending the next few years making rootsy Rock albums that generated good reviews and earned Moore opening slots with The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. Most guys would have gratefully kissed fate's ass and called that a career, turning the familiar crank every two years to produce more of the pretty-damn-good same-old-thing. Somewhere along the line, Moore tapped into an inner reservoir of invention and ambition and created the stunning Pop sprawl of 2004's Luminaria, expanding his sonic range tenfold into territory that suggested Wilco with a Sgt. Pepper obsession. Moore's latest, To Be Loved, raises the stakes even higher, crafting a baroque Soul/Pop gem that connects the dots between the rootsy Folk of Grant Lee Phillips, the ethereal chamber hymns of Jeff Buckley, the psychedelic Pop of The Beatles, the sunny bounce of The Beach Boys and the expansive vision of Jeff Lynne, with exquisitely delicious dollops of Todd Rundgren, Jellyfish, Sparks and Bryan Ferry. They might not be actual influences on Moore or intentional reference points, but you'll hear them all and probably a few of your own as well. With To Be Loved, Ian Moore has created the sonic equivalent of a magically universal Willy Wonka gumball; almost any listener will hear traces of their own personal musical exposure in Moore's fascinating Pop architecture.

SIN CITY's
 GUIDE TO STAGECOACH!

This is so good, I'm flyin' in for it!

GLEN CAMPBELL RETURNS TO CAPITOL RECORDS FOR HIS DYNAMIC NEW STUDIO ALBUM,
 MEET GLEN CAMPBELL

New Album to be Released August 19; Campbell to Premiere Select Songs at Stagecoach Festival on
Friday, May 2
8:20 PM
Palomino Stage

Hollywood, California – April 29, 2008 – In a legendary music career that spans more than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. For Meet Glen Campbell, his inspired, dynamic new studio album, the music icon has returned to his longtime label home, Capitol Records. Meet Glen Campbell will be released on August 19 on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally.

The songs on the album all strike a personal and musical chord with Campbell.  He has reinterpreted and re-imagined both older and contemporary songs with his own signature vocal and guitar arrangements. A true musician's musician, Campbell's distinct guitar playing, along with the clarity and emotion of his powerful vocal performance, come together to give new life to the songs he selected for Meet Glen Campbell.

The influential singer, guitarist and stylist, who has long made others' songs his own, is doing it again, recording high-spirited, emotionally charged versions of tracks that have personally moved and inspired him. Campbell's intimate performances convey an autobiographical and deeply personal connection to the album's songs, which include Travis' "Sing," Tom Petty's "Angel Dream" and "Walls," The Replacements' "Sadly Beautiful," U2's "All I Want Is You," The Velvet Underground's "Jesus," and Jackson Browne's "These Days," among others.

Recorded in March and April at The Recording Studio and Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles, Meet Glen Campbell is produced by Julian Raymond (Rosanne Cash, Fastball, Shawn Mullins, Wallflowers) with engineer/co-producer Howard Willing. The album  features musical contributions by Campbell contemporaries as well as younger rock and alt-country artists who joined him in the studio, including Cheap Trick's Robin Zander, Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Jason Faulkner from Jellyfish, and Chris Chaney from Jane's Addiction. Campbell's sons and daughters, who regularly perform with their father, recorded backing vocals for the tracks, providing the album's warm family tone.

Meet Glen Campbell begins an exciting new chapter in the 50-year career of one of America's most beloved musical icons. This Friday, May 2, during his set at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, Campbell will be joined onstage by special guests to premiere select songs from his new album.

April 15th
not just for tax day anymore...  ;)

Mama Shi says...

LISTEN UP!
I mean this damn it...

A top secret "iconic brand" wants to find the best unsigned country rock, americana, alt. country and southern rock artists in the US for a major promotion they're launching later this year.  I smell a talent search!  Well, they came to us to help get to the right artists cause they know that we know how to reach the right people!   I'm typically not a fan of these sorts of things BUT we agreed to help spread the word because I KNOW that some artist that WE KNOW deserves to ride this wave to the top and it's really cool as shit!   This is a great promotion on a lot of levels and since we know the best artists in the country, I know that someone we know will benefit GREATLY by taking 10 mins. To enter.
 Seriously, JUST DO IT!

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS TUESDAY, APRIL 15th !

There are some rules...

Everyone in your band must be 21+ years of age and live in the United States.

  • You can't be signed to a major label...or any big indie that's funded or distributed by one of the 4 majors (sm indie labels are ok)

  • You must write and own your own material – meaning no 3rd party publishing deals  (Admin deals are ok)

  • One last thing...you should be ok with being associated with either a spirit/tobacco/wireless or automotive company – if not then don't enter.

The artist entry form/rules can be found here:
http://artistsearch.radweblive.com/Default.aspx

I can't answer any questions other than what's on the website but I will tell you that if I were in an unsigned band or I managed your unsigned band that I would submit!   If you're chosen as a finalist and you're not into it then you don't have to go any further.  On the other hand...you can't get to that place if you don't actually enter.

I'm asking you to trust me on this one.

Pass this on to anyone you think would be interested!

SIN CITY SOCIAL CLUB members...

CHECK OUT WHAT WE’VE GOT FOR YOU IN THE COMING MONTHS!

We’ve been shouting from mountain tops about SHURMAN for years... Their new album "Waiting For The Sunset" has been getting a lot of attention and features the legendary AL Perkins on the brilliant unofficial SIN CITY theme song "Country Ain’t Country"!

It’s FINALLY available to the public and it’s time to celebrate with Aaron, Kiko and the new band!
Please join them at their CD Release party/show at The Key Club ... Maybe the album should be called "Waiting for the Sunset Blvd."  (wink)
Shurman goes on around 10:30 pm

The band is fresh off a 6 week European tour and trek thru Texas, Arizona and Oklahoma.
Let’s give em a big ol welcome home party shall we?

Get your drinkin’ boots on and be sure to buy the boys a drink from Mama Shi

AMERICAN SONGWRITER | by Hal Horowitz, September-October 2006
...this is leisurely, stark, emotionally stirring music created by veterans who understand that less is more. Think George Jones fronting The Flying Burrito Brothers; add a windswept spaghetti Western ("Son of Saguaro") and a rousing Gamble-Huff cover ("Cowboys to Girls") and you've got cosmic American music for the millennium.

AMPLIFIER MAGAZINE REVIEW
FEBRUARY 2007
Can a rock 'n' roll record have too many hooks? Don't ask Dead Rock West. They've packed a career's worth of potential hit songs onto a single disc. Commandeered by vocalist Cindy Wasserman and singer / guitarist Frank Lee Drennen, Honey and Salt spans the history of rock, from Elvis to post-grunge. "Pretty Disaster" packs a punk wallop not heard since X scorched Los Angeles, while power pop worthy of the Cheap Trick mantle bursts out of "Telephone." Engineered in all its sonic glory by famed knob twiddler Richard Dodd (Tom Petty, George Harrison, Traveling Wilburys), Honey and Salt could easily be mistaken for a greatest hits album, yet it maintains a sense of continuity in no small thanks to a rhythm section (Phil Palapiano-keyboards, David Carpenter-bass, Bryan Head-drums) that's as pliable as the dexterous duo leading the charge. What more can you ask for?

"To say that Brandi Shearer has a great voice - would be like saying Michael Jordan has a good jump shot, or that the Grand Canyon is a pretty big hole in the ground. The fact is, Shearer's voice - is such a thing of beauty that even an adoring description tends to fall short."

"Her introspective lyrics, jazz inspired guitar riffs and Pasty Cline/Loretta Lynn-like voice has listeners immediately drawn and totally hooked."

Thrasher Magazine says...
This band is a trove of talent from guitar virtuosity, to male/female vocal harmonies that give Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris a solid run for their money. Their styles mix Blue Ridge reverence with Wild West rebellion and a strong dose of
Texas tenacity.

"Everything and a box of biscuits!"
Now residing in Austin, this Alabama native has some serious blue eyed soul! He's in town for an appearance at the NAMM show on the John Lennon Educational Bus and just off the heels of winning KGSR's (the coolest station in Austin) Apple Macbook contest! My friend Roggie tells me that he's gonna knock our socks off! I can't wait to see him.

The Small Stars
feat. Miles from Fastball as Guy Fantasy!
9:30 pm
www.thesmallstars.com
myspace.com/thesmallstarsrevue

Guy Fantasy and his gang are back!
The Small Stars' mixture of alcoholic lounge act meets glam-rock took The Mint by storm last year and any inhibitions the crowd had about becoming fully involved in the show were thrown completely out the window! The Small Stars are a lounge act from Reno, Nev., who enjoy drinking, political humor and, most of all, playing music.

What the Austin American Statesman says...
"This shamefully talented collective of characters, fronted by vocalist/guitarist Guy Fantasy (Fastball's Miles Zuniga), had a Continental Club audience more or less rolling in the aisles and rocking on the dance floor during a Friday night set that spanned everything from the Doug Sahm Tex-Mex ditty "Nitty-Gritty" to a brilliant ska rave-up of "The Boys Are Back in Town." There were no small doses of originals, either, including the Kinks-meet-"Rocky Horror" rock-opera-ish confessional "True Hollywood Story" ("It's sad but true, daddy loved you mo-wo-wo-wo-re than me"); the tune that hit No. 1 in Corpus Christi, "Otra Vez"; a gently funky-reggae tune with a disco break that became "You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record)" with Fantasy rolling each "r" till it spun out of control.

The only thing serious about the Small Stars is their musical chops, contributed by keyboard/trombone player Max Dolby (Matt Hubbard, a Willie Nelson sideman); drummer Brick Masterson (New Bohemians' John Bush); bassist Godfrey McCambridge (Lil Cap'n Travis' Jeff Johnston); guitarist Richard Steele (Landis Armstrong of McLemore Avenue and the El Orbits)"

Shilah says...
I'd better not get too drunk early in the night or I might end up on stage singin' "Eyes Without A Face" with the band...or god help us I might do something even worse! This band had everyone on their feet dancin' and getting stupid...I seem to remember everyone up on the bar at some point! Consider yourselves warned...and wear comfortable shoes!

CD Baby Says...
With his passionate devotion to music, one can't help but feel the enthusiasm that exudes from Shawn Pander and his songs. His creative songwriting and amiable stage presence establish him as an up-and-coming formidable musical force. That smoky sound of his voice is reminiscent of Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Jack Johnson.

Shilah says...
"Tell Mama" just won the John Lennon songwriting contest (2006) - His latest album was produced by Jason Mrazs lead guitarist and producer (Bill Bell), who enlisted some incredible musicians to contribute to the record including Ron Sexsmith & some of the dudes from Barenaked Ladies.
