[an excerpt from my brother’s blog]

My sister Julia married her friend Matthew on Saturday!

Truly I tell you, there was much spashing and rejoicing throughout the glorious day as the heavens opened up and angels sang and cherubs gyrated their pelvises at passersby!

Here are some pictures, that you might be appeased.

Here I am performing a song at the wedding, along with my brothers Brian and whats-his-name. By the way, Brian isn’t holding the lyrics, he’s proofreading a term paper. I think everybody found that pretty inappropriate.

Here I am at the wedding reception with my lovely wife, brothers, and Matthew’s brother Andy (What does that make Andy to me? Brother-in-law’s brother? Half brother? Pen pal?) We were placed at the "little kids table" during the dinner, which we all dealt with by consuming copious amounts of alcohol, as you can plainly see.

As the dinner progressed, and the wine continued to flow like thick camel’s milk, Bridgette seemed to grow more and more intimate with my brother (Richard, I think). Though I found this emotionally troubling, I did not entirely disapprove.

After the reception, those of us under 35 retired to a nearby bowling alley for some high-stakes competition. Here you can see Julia bowling incongruously with her wedding dress. I honestly thought this was the greatest conclusion to a wedding ceremony in the recorded history of mankind.

I’ll just go ahead and assume that this is the best picture of Matthew that exists.

Incidentally, I’d like to share with you a moment of awe-inspiring awkwardness that he shared with me that evening. Apparently, at the conclusion of the reception, he was approached by a certain gruff older relative of mine, and the following exchange took place:

RELATIVE: Now Matthew, you go home and get the job done.
MATTHEW: Uh, you mean bowling?
RELATIVE: You know what I mean.

BROGAN!

Gaze for a moment, if you will, at my perfect form and the soft contours of my body. I am Plato’s eternal, ethereal form of a bowler. Seriously you guys, I’m like the pope of bowling.

Current mood:  inspired

so it's been a rough three weeks

i had forgotten the hazards that come with combining my personality with free time when others are awake.

needless to say, there's been a lot of the following:

  • seeking the unattainable
  • attaining the forsaken
  • appreciating my own satisfactions in these
  • gallons of nyquil ingested
  • fearing the unknown
  • better knowing the feared
  • magniloquent pretense
  • over-thinking before and after the simplest social commission and omission
  • dollars spent
  • deciding i'm not finished yet

and through it all, there is an unknown gem in my life that inspires confidence in me still. . .

to the fool i may be tomorrow!

[22 Jan 2008 | Tuesday]

Current mood:  aroused

it seems i am quite nearly done with snow making for the year at eldora.

i have two more shifts this week, and then i'm out. and up during the day. what changes will this make in my life? perhaps a re-introduction of social interaction? perhaps a lot more free time? i dunno, maybe a sharp rise in violent local muggings - at this point it's all speculation. but whichever of these three scenarios plays out, it's sure to be an improvement over the last two months.

so yeah, it's party time! this friday! at stef's in denver!

see you there

Current mood:  selective

obsessed with numbers
just how many do i see?
hold on, i'll count them

there must be thousands
so many more than i thought
they're all in my head

two weeks of shopping:
trash, dvds, tupperware
pantries of pan/trays

don't forget to bring
home the nails and some extra
electricity

it's time to go work
and it's also time to sleep
time to multi-task

friedrich nietzsche: RATS!
it must suck to be so dead
for a hundred years

so who's dead now, fred?
your words are still and static
you just changed my mind

"rain on my parade"
the pagan rain god parade
it would make my day

i had a sell phone
i sold it for a bi phone
it calls girls and boys!

i like graph paper
cause i love to draw mazes
the joke of "my life"

should i go to work?
it's snowing pretty bad now
guess they don't need me

please listen to this:
alornek's soul goes walking
a bummer for him

i laughed so hard when
brian wrote that in sixth grade
he was talented

elected talent
i choose to be really good
so i'll be mayor

pabst blue ribbon beer
thanks for making me better
you limit my pride

one hell of a day
but i guess it could be worse
one day of a hell

fleur-de-lis, in clay
why do you sit in my room?
you have no meaning
to me, anyway
i'm sure you're very special
to somebody else

what could be nicer:
"you must matter to someone!"
get this thing off me
