Current mood:  excited
Just got word we're going to be opening for the Pink Mountaintops in Omaha, at Slowdown Jr. on Friday November 20th.  Pink Mountaintops are one of our favorite bands, and they are also the same people that make up another big favorite of ours - Black Mountain.  They're also on one of our favorite labels, JagJaguwar Records - home of Bon Iver, Minus Story, Black Mountain (of course), Okkervil River, Dinosaur Jr., and Ladyhawk among many other amazing bands.

The venue's website is www.theslowdown.com
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased HERE.

Please come out to the show if you're in the neighborhood, it will be fantastic for sure!

Here's a couple video's of Pink Mountaintops.

Thanks for your support, we couldn't get shows like this if you guys didn't keep coming out to shows and being awesome.

We're super excited to announce that we'll be playing at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO on Saturday November 21st.  It's a free show, part of the Blue Note's New Music Night series.  Also playing is Slippy Larue, Bad Mellow, and the Unfashionables.   I believe we go on third.

Best part? THE SHOW IS FREE!!!! If you are in town and not busy, you have no excuse to not come to the show!

I've been going to Blue Note shows since before I could drive, and i've seen so many of my favorite bands play there - Jimmy Eat World, Iron and Wine, Band of Horses, Modest Mouse, Straylight Run, Mae.... and soooo many more.   Its a super historic venue, and its had everyone I listed, plus a who's who of music history - Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Wilco, Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, Cursive, Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters, Weezer...the list goes on and on.

The Blue Note is one of the nicest venues i've ever been to - its got great acoustics, a great sound system - and while being a huge room, still has a great intimate vibe.  We have such a hard time getting a good stage sound sometimes - considering our set up of an acoustic guitar backed by drums and bass.   I am excited because I'm sure the sound will be stellar, so this is a great opportunity to see us!

In other news...

We've got some other shows coming up:
Sat Nov 14 @ The Record Bar - Kansas City, MO - w/ Person L, John Nolan, Brian Bonz
Mon Nov 16 @ The Dukum - Kirksville, MO - w/ John Nolan, hereafterthis, and P3
Sat Nov 21 @ The Blue Note - Columbia, MO
Sat Nov 27 @ Bauhaus Coffeehouse - Farmington, MO - w/ The Firebird Suite, and more
Sat Dec 5 @ The Dukum - Kirksville, MO - w/ Marsyas & more tba
Sun Dec 6 @ Underground Cafe (Cherry Street Artisan) - Columbia, MO

after those shows (pending if we were to get lucky and get some awesome show), we'll be heading out into the woods to record our debut album.  We're doing it with our good friend, and essentially other MSO member...Lucas Oswald.   He's a good friend of ours that plays in lots of sweet bands... Minus Story, Hospital Ships, Old Canes, and he's even going to be touring on keyboards for the Appleseed Cast on their spring US and European tours.

He's a wizard with the button pushing, and he's going to bring his gear, we're going to bring our drums and guitars - and we're going to set up in a cabin in a remote area 20 minutes outside of Kirksville.   We'll do most of the basic tracking there - and then pack up and finish some overdubs in Kirksville (Vibraphone, Tymp's, Chimes, Bells, Whistles, Etc...), we'll also probably end up doing a lot of the other extra fun at his house in Columbia, as well as Lawrence possibly.   We've got so many idea's cooking for this that we're about to burst if we don't get this recorded soon!   We've also got lots of fun ideas for guest appearances that we're hoping to have all work out for the most part.

The plan is to then have the record mixed by someone else (in conjunction with our's and lucas's ears) and have it mastered.  We're aiming for a release date in early spring - and unless something happens with a label before that - we're planning on doing a special self-release version (probably limited to 500 handnumbered copies or something) while we try and get it picked up by a label for rerelease.

We're hard at work narrowing the tracklist down, and figuring out the order.  We've got the songs decided for the most part, its just a matter of making the whole thing fit and flow.   Also, we're always writing, so there is a good chance we'll have 2 or 3 more songs to play with by the time we get to the studio.   Until then we'll be demoing and demoing the songs over and over till we can walk into the actual sessions and nail this beast the right way.

This album is doing things to my brain that no project i've ever worked on before has.  It has consumed my every thought and breath, and it has made school next to impossible. I stare blankly at my professors while hearing beats and rhythms and melodies.  I have never been so excited about a project before.  I'm so excited to get this ball rolling, and to get these songs out the right way.  I feel like we've really been putting our all into this, and this record already has so many tears and sleepless nights from it's creation.

I should still be on target to graduate in May, and then we'll hit the road for the summer and move to Columbia in August.  Then we'll try and slowly build up our touring regimen with the hopes to eventually be touring a good chunk of the year.   Playing music and traveling with my friends is something i've been dreaming of for so long now, and I fee like we're so close to getting somewhere.

Thanks so much for all of your support thus far.  Every day I feel blown away and incredibly thankful for all of the amazing things we've gotten to take part in already.  This has been an on-going dream come true.   You have our eternal gratitude.

September 3, 2009 - Thursday
We're pleased to announce a few shows for the fall:

Sunday October 25 - Kirksville, MO - The Dukum - w/ Chase Pagan, Destry,
   O'Brother, & Manhattan

Saturday November 14 - Kansas City, MO - The Record Bar - w/ John Nolan, Person L,
    & Brian Bonz

Monday November 16 - Kirksville, MO - The Dukum - w/ John Nolan

We're currently working out the details for a few more shows around the november timeframe.  More details and shows to be posted, as soon as they are more concrete.

Chase Pagan are from Militia Group Records, and will bring an erie mountain pop to the Dukum.   Destry is the new musical outlet for Michelle DaRosa (John Nolan's sister), formerly of Straylight Run.   O'Brother comes from the Favorite Gentlemen Community.

We're excited to get back up on the stage with John and Camille.   Person L is the new band for Kenny Vasoli, best known as frontman of pop-punk superstars The Starting Line.  Brian Bonz plays in Kevin Devine's Godddamn Band.

We should have some new merch at these shows - posters, shirts, cds, etc.

We're going to be pushing recording of the album back a bit - to January/February.   This fits our schedules better, and our producer's schedule.  This will also allow us some extra time to flush out ideas we've come up with recently.  We're going to once-over the mixes for the recent demos, and do an overhaul of the Scary Song and Coalescing Spirits.   When we have the ep to the level we want, we'll handpackage/screen print some packaging.  This will be the disc we sell until the album is out late next spring/early summer.

That is all for now.  See you at a show!

August 24, 2009 - Monday
I was pretty sure I posted a blog while we were on tour.   In fact, I know i did.  and now it is gone.   It was a really long blog too...damn!

Well, we just got back from tour a couple days ago.  It feels good to be home, and not so good to think about the fact that classes start this week.

The shows with John Nolan were great!  Hanging with him and his wife Camille was a lot of fun.   Can't wait to get on a stage with them again sometime.   We played with them on their song 'Til Its Done To Death'. John was one of my biggest heros when I first started playing music, and I feel like he is an integral influence to who I am now.   I've seen Straylight Run 7 times.   It was crazy to be playing drums and look up and see John playing right in front of me.   I feel like I did a decent job not letting my fanboy side get the best of me, but I definitely was ecstatic to play with him every night.   Sorry in advance to all my friends at home, because that's all I am going to talk about for the next couple months.

Here's the vid...

We're currently resting and recharging.   We're also researching how to make a better rig for erica so I can not have to play a lot quieter and she can be louder and have feedback reduced over all.  We had some great shows on tour, but we still had sound issues.  And everyone who tours knows...you can NEVER EVER EVER count on the sound guy to have even touched a soundboard before the show.   No joke.   Sound guys are as a whole the most ignorant and stupid people in the world.   I do not say that because I could do better (although i definitely could in some cases....), but seriously...it's not like you are flying a jet or spaceship, but a smooth flight makes you a whole lot less sick than a bumpy one.

Haha, so maybe i've got a little bit of old-cranky-bastard in me too!

Other than sound issues, we're very excited to get back to work getting the record together. We'll start recording it in October with Lucas Oswald, and hopefully have it out by spring.  We're sitting on 15+ songs, and working on new ones all the time!

We're playing a festival in Topeka, KS in October, as well as a few other scattered midwest shows.  Hopefully this winter we'll hit the road again, and possibly just stay there forever.

Also, i'm obsessed with Bon Iver.  Check that album out, and prepare to be amazed.

Oh, here's another vid, of our song "Granite Gardens".  Check it out, and thanks to all our friends that jumped up on stage to help us out!

Coming up on June 11th, Erica will be opening for Dear & The Headlights at Mojos in Columbia, Missouri.   The band opened for them in Columbia last March on their Drunk Like Bible Times tour.  I'll unfortunately (or more-so fortunately for me who gets to see Ani DiFranco, and unfortunately for Erica who does not...hehehe...) be at BONNAROO!  I'll get to see Dear & The Headlights there even!

Brad will be at the show helping out as well!

Go show Erica all your love on Thursday June 11th! Mojos! www.mojoscolumbia.com

On a second - and equally as exciting note -  We're booking a tour in August.  Look at the tentative dates and if you can be of ANY assistance, we would love you forever.  We already do, but if you know anything in any of these towns (or anything close by), then hit us up!

See you on the road this summer!
