Greenbelt ....
For those who have never been
Greenbelt is a Christian rooted festival based in Cheltenham. It was great to go and here are my tweets
from the best bits : ....
How can someone relate to more..
Or even less dimentions? #gb09....
Have to budget now as almost run
out of honk #gb09
@greenbelt....
'What every artist must lean is
that even the failed pieces are essential' #gb09....
'It makes all the difference to
know there's someone screaming alongside you' #gb09....
Just listened to talk on
borderless church and now going to big top :) #gb09 @greenbelt....
Although there was a lot of good music, I spend my life in
music so the talks were the best bit for me.. The interesting concept of how to
explain something 3D to someone living in 2D land.. and perhaps the lack of understanding both worlds
have for each other.
I like the concept of it making a difference to have someone
screaming alongside you. I’m often in
the mindset that problems have solutions, but often they don’t .. and often it’s
screaming alongside someone with empathy that is the solution or at least the
relief and resolution. Also in this talk
“raindrops like stars” I feel the point that there’s more to be learnt from
someone who’s gone through a bad experience, and someone who is seemingly
stable and happy has a lot to learn. Also
tying in with superficial
One point that related to me personally was, 'What every artist must lean is that even the failed pieces
are essential', this has stumped me for a while (if you read my girl blog)..
and the self induced writers block, verging on perfectionism which restricts
even the start of creativity is something I’m working on to stop. Having written what I would consider to be
some good songs, I think it’s a necessary process to allow yourself to write medioca
songs in order to achieve good and hopefully great songs again.....
The idea of borderless church also
was a good topic. Although obviously
linked very strongly to faith and God (who you may or may not believe in).. the
community aspect of church which is often lost is in my opinion the most
important aspect. The week before I went
to Green Man festival.. which I have to say is probably the best environment I’ve
ever been in. was that community? It seems a shame that festivals seem to be
the only places where it exists so strongly.....
The other talk I found interesting
was a guy who was trying to get new words into the dictionary.. ‘Honk’ was my favourite..
meaning a slang words ‘money’. I will
try and use that, as should you to get it accepted into our language!....

Music wise The Follys is sadly
coming to an end, it’s a number of reasons which have made this the main option
and our final big gig is tomorrow (thurs 3 September 2009) headlining the
Bullingdon Arms in Oxford. I hope some
of you can make it. I’ll put a blog on
the band page when that’s done I think.....
