'We’ve
an incredible offer exclusively for readers of Skin Deep magazine…free
music! Bradford-based three piece New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack
have been the recipients of much critical acclaim and their
uncompromising rock ‘n’ roll has caused a great deal of excitement
amongst those who have witnessed their shows and heard their raucous,
garage-tinged offerings. Their strong visual presence and love of
tattoo-inspired art has won them many fans, including the
multi-talented Joolz Denby, who has provided much of their artistic
styling. “The Collection” represents one of the first revolutionary
steps amongst unsigned bands because it was conceived and distributed
with the aid of sponsors, negating the need for record company
involvement and allowing them to distribute as they see fit…and they
have generously offered their album, “The Collection“, to you lucky
lot! All you have to do to receive your free copy of The Collection is

The Leopard Prince
Through The Looking Glass
Or, Eat Me, Drink Me . . .
The Leopard Prince, having drunk from the bottle marked 'Drink Me' and fallen down the White Rabbit's Hole, eaten some of the very small cake marked 'Eat Me' and escaped from the Pool Of Tears finds himself looking over the edge of the Mushroom to find a large, blue caterpillar, sitting with its arms folded, quietly smoking a long hookah and not taking the smallest bit of notice of The Leopard prince or anything else . . .
~*~
The Caterpillar and The Leopard Prince looked at each other for some time in silence: at last the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed him in a languid, sleepy voice.
'Who are you?' said the Caterpillar.
This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. The Leopard Prince replied, rather shyly, 'I - I hardly know, sir, just at present - at least I knew who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
'What do you mean by that? said the Caterpillar sternly. 'Explain yourself!'
'I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir,' said The Leopard Prince, 'because I'm not myself, you see.'
'I don't see,' said the Caterpillar.
'I'm afraid I can't put it more clearly,' The Leopard Prince replied very politely, 'for I've taken so many strange things today, cakes and potions of all types, and seen so many strange things, that the day is very confusing.'
'It isn't', said the Caterpillar.
The Leopard Prince thought long and hard. But somehow, however long and hard he thought, his thoughts swam away from him like pretty shining fish in a beautiful pool. And all the while, he could hear music playing, from far off, as if a choir of tiny white rabbits were singing in a jar that vibrated like the sunshine.
As the Caterpillar seemed in a very unpleasant state of mind, The Leopard Prince turned away, his mind expanding.
'Come back!' the Caterpillar called after him. 'I've something important to say!'
This sounded promising, certainly: The Leopard Prince adjusted the ruffles of his purple Paisley shirt, wriggled himself more comfortably in his very tight crimson velvet strides and turned on his Cuban heel.
'Keep your temper,' said the Caterpillar.
'Is that all?' said The Leopard Prince, swallowing down his anger as best he could, the Famous Blue Eyes flashing like sapphires and the Famous Curls dancing.
'No,' said the Caterpillar.
'The Leopard Prince was rather bored now and in the summery haze he began to be fascinated by some glowing flowers just on the edge of his vision, that changed from red to white and back again as if being painted, but he thought he might as well wait, as the Caterpillar might tell him something worth hearing. For some minutes it puffed away without speaking, but at last it unfolded its arms, took the hookah out of its mouth again, and said, 'So you think you're changed, do you?'
'I'm afraid I am, sir,' said The Leopard Prince; ' I read poetry now and novels, and I never used to, I play my guitar and I have a Band with a Very Long Name with Drummer Boy and Bass Lad - oh, where are they? I'm sure I left them somewhere round here but you know these Festivals, sir, they are quite a puzzle.'
'Do you really want to be with your Band?' said the Caterpillar, taking a long pull at its hookah.
'Yes, sir, I think I do,' said The Leopard Prince dreamily.
The Caterpillar took the hookah from its mouth and yawned once or twice, and shook itself. Then it got down off the mushroom, and crawled away into the grass, merely remarking as it went, 'One side will make you see your Band, and the other side will make you hear your Band.'
''One side of what? The other side of what?' thought The Leopard Prince to himself.
'Of the mushroom', said the Caterpillar, just as if he had asked it out aloud; and in another moment it was out of sight.
The Leopard Prince remained looking thoughtfully at the mushroom for a minute, trying to make out which were the two sides of it; and as it was perfectly round, he found this a very difficult question. However, at last he stretched his arms round it as far as they would go and broke off a bit from each edge.
'And now which is which?' he said, as he nibbled at it all.
~*~
'Oh hullo,' said Drummer Boy as The Leopard Prince opened his Famous Blue Eyes and shook the Famous Curls back into place. 'You've been in a Hole, and I'm not sure that Bass Lad still isn't. But now it's time to play our songs, so let's go!'
And they all walked together through the Wonderland Festival to the Looking Glass Marquee where they indeed, played their songs and The Leopard Prince wondered long and hard, if it had all been a dream.
What do you think it was?

NEW YORK ALCOHOLIC ANXIETY ATTACK

Three
piece outfit from Bradford, Northeast, United Kingdom might just be the
next cult band to follow, frontman Mik Davis has your Rockstar image
and vocal to go with it, the six track demo EP that they have released
has some pretty exciting music of pure raw talent, with songs like "Guns and God"
kicks in with your typical rock drumming floor tom to snare style and a
mystical Mark Boland type of vocal this tune has got tons of potential
with the right producer i think we got a winner here. "Sun Riders"
this song has a got a grunge feel with punk styled vocals reminds me of
early Nirvana very loose in parts but adds to the tunes character, this
has to the rebirth of grunge...smashing tune and a cracking EP worth
checking out, i feel this demo is a step to greater things for NYAAA.

New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack
The Collection
Available for free via their Myspace site, this six-track demo
collection is proof that NYAAA are continuing to get better with every
release. More chilled out than their debut album, last year's ‘The Man
WithFour Tears’, the decision to ease up on the intensity has actually
done them wonders as the hypnotic ‘Guns And God’ and ‘Sunriders’ show a
band getting more and more confident in their musical ability and not
afraid to try a few new things. However, the riff on ‘Rainbows And
Rust’ is almost Stooges-like in its ferocity and is evidence that they
certainly haven't lost any of their bite. It goes without saying that
this comes very highly recommended and the second album should be well
worth the wait when it appears.
Andy James - Bubblegum Slut Fanzine
'Bradford band, New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack, build the excitement still further with an up tempo aggressive set. They wear their hard rock allegiances openly - the singer guitarist stripped to the waist, the bassist in dreads and hoody, the drummer's hair tightly cropped - yet their music displays much wider influences. It is underpinned by a powerful driving, at times martial, drum beat and bass lines that vary from the slow and melodic to the fast and percussive. This is overlaid by guitar riffs that move from the thrashy and distorted to a sparser sound, providing space for the gentle yet forceful vocals, and back again. By the time they leave the stage, they have won over many new converts.'

'We meet at 8.30pm in Camden town and walk to the venue: the Dublin Castle. Once there, we make our way to the end of the pub, where behind a door, the stage stands. At the door, a guy asks me which band I am here to see; my answer is "NYAAA" his reply is "good choice".
At 10pm, the band goes on stage. My first surprise is to notice that the three members are pretty young; the topless singer, sporting several tattoos, looks like T-REX front man: Marc Bolan; an angel face framed by brown ringlets.
The tone is set from the very beginning; energetic, wild, rough with no embellishment, 100% punk-rock. Their style is stark and sober. My second impression is about the structure of the songs, despite the young age of the group, they are well thought of without being boring. We can tell that those three men keep their instruments busy. The songs follow each other with the very same energy, which echoes T-REX, MC 5, and NEW YORK DOLLS. The lyrics talk about war and love and the sound is wild and rough and yet never aggressive.
Their performance already have a good attitude and we can tell they enjoy their time on stage.
Hopefully, they'll succeed as soon as possible as they do have things to say, and it is time someone takes on the torch of rock revival, which has been left aside for too long now.'

'Professor Pop would be fascinated by New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack. Barely into their 20s, the Bradford trio play with a passion that makes many of their peers sound like karaoke night at the zombie club. Their music engages with the post-punk templates of rolling drums, rumbling bass and declamatory vocals in a way suggesting that the era means more to them than a set of skinny jean fashion options. The hottest tickets in Town.'
METRO
'A small but inquisitive crowd gathered in the Dublin Castle to see what New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack could muster. What they got was a bombardment of testosterone-charged riffs and outstanding lead vocals from singer Mik Davis. The band's sound lies somewhere between The Doors, Rage Against The Machine and the Chilli Peppers, but there are some secret ingredients- namely beauty and youth.
Poetic-lyricist and Adonis-faced Davis was sexually charged in a genuinely intense performance with his shirt off and tattoos on show. NYAAA are a rock chick's idea of heaven.
'Change These Times' the set's opener, was bold and uncompromising, an immediate statement that they were here to stay. 'We Are The Chosen' was another that allowed the band to revel in their energy and confidence, as was 'City Of God'. Extremely hard working, unsigned but unwilling to compromise, NYAAA are emerging as one of the most talented (and virile) groups around trying to define a new generation of British hard-rock music.'
London Tourdates Magazine
Live Review - New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack
'NYAAA have created a beautiful but unforgiving landscape that screams with an urgency that is perhaps heard only once in a generation. Rock is dead, Long Live NYAAA.'
Kerrang! Radio
'NYAAA - putting the glamour back into rock n' roll'.
Bugbear London
'NYAAA - without a shadow of a doubt the greatest live band of their generation - incredible gig.'
NME online.
'NYAAA - a cross between The Clash and The Doors - but more intense'.
NME Online
'The emotions of the listener live in the space between the notes and NYAAA understand this in a way they really have no right to this early in life. There I go with the age thing again, it's difficult not to when the subject matter possesses such an embarrassment of talent. That they already have something cohesive, tangible and of such quality is remarkable, that they are not yet signed is a fleeting moment in the big picture of a very promising career.'
Sandman Magazine
'Something's stirring in the North, an ominous, ferocious rumble. The three young men up on stage with the best band name in Britain are perhaps not what you'd expect – a tribute to Richard Hell's blank generation, perhaps, or another New Wave of No Wave combo from NYC. They don't actually hail from the Big Apple at all. They're from Bradford, and in many ways are the spiritual heirs of that city's tradition of provocative punk.
NYAAA are all tribal beats, sinewy bass and raw-throated, all-too-knowing vocals. Bandana-wearing bassist Matthew Graham provides a visual flashback to another Bradford band, as he bobs and weaves around the stage as if his instrument was a large cobra he was doing battle with. He looks like Aki, now of Fun-da-mental, in his Southern Death Cult days. Singer Michael Davis has a touch of the Jim Morrisons about him, a touch more of the Jaz Colemans, a wild-eyed intensity that ensures he won't be considered just on his looks. Killing Joke seem another key influence, as do John McGeoch-era Banshees and early PiL. Which is all to the good. If there has to be a revival of the sordid, often terrifying Eighties then it should be those starkly original, politically agile post-punk pioneers that we look to – ditch the legwarmers and pick up a copy of Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up And Start Again.
However, you don't need a lecture on good taste from Grandma Goth. Lithe, sinewy, uncompromising, they ride their metallic funk over waves of a songs about war and love and rage that build and build on each other until their stunning finale, NYAAA are giving rock music the adrenaline shot it has been waiting for since the death of that other Killing Joke fan, Kurt Cobain.
NYAAA are men on a mission and that mission is of the ultimate worth to us now. They are the anti-Coldplay. Catch them as they start to ignite.'
Plan B Magazine.
'How rock 'n' roll is a name like "New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack?" It's very freakin rock 'n' roll if you ask me and with a lead singer who looks for all the world like a young Bradfordian Jim Morrison, could this be Bradford's latest up and coming entry into the world of 'world class rawk' acts? It certainly could. The early demo we have our grubby little mitts on is charged with the kind of raw hard hitting retroesque guitar and vocals reminiscent of such seminal acts as The Stones, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin.
However, don't be fooled these are no copy cats. The music is original and genuine, and the vocals have that kind of intensity that can only come from a lead singer that has lost himself in the moment. No emulation here, this is from the heart. There is more to these lads than to aspire to the hedonistic rock gods of years gone by though. These are working class lads from Bradford, and what do you get if you mix Bradford, talented musicians, and working class ethics? We KNOW these guys are gonna be a force to be reckoned with.'
www.half-cut.co.uk
'Following the previous act, NEW YORK ALCOHOLIC ANXIETY ATTACK (NYAAA) were an effective wakeup call as is a brutal kick in the head. Their sound is unlike anything previously heard before, the end result being an almost unnerving experience. This is a band that simply spits on everything we thought we ever knew about rock music today. With elements of punk and metal, powerful and almost tribal drumming, and a darker side most other bands could only dream to achieve, NYAAA are three young faces worth looking out for in the future.'
