Slamdance's 2009 Feature Screenplay Competition is now open for entries - Get your script produced - Submit by April 27th for the Early Discount!

Grand Prize Winner receives $5000.00, and all entrants also eligible for the Upload Films Best Low Budget Feature Award - winner receives potential option deal with Upload Films to get your script produced! For details, rules, guidelines, and submitting, CLICK HERE!

2008 Feature Competition Winner Neil McGowan (NUMBERED): “Only two months ago, I was writing blindly, so to speak. I was doing what I loved to do, but doing it primarily for myself with no real hope that anything I happened to be working on would ever really be enjoyed by anyone but myself, and with no actual idea if what I was writing was any good at all.  Then I won Slamdance, and in an instant, I attained
not only a belief in myself, but also a sudden legitimacy in the profession I want to pursue.  In no time, I was making a deal with Upload Films for an option agreement and possible production, and it seems reasonable that literary representation is in the cards.  Winning this contest is, in so many words, the beginning of my career."

Previous Slamdance Feature Screenplay Competitions successes also include Nicole Kassell and Stephen Fetcher's THE WOODSMAN, Joshua Marston's MARIA FULL OF GRACE, and Nancy Kissam's DROOL, which was a Slamdance 2009 Film
Festival Special Screening.

For all questions on the Feature Competition, please e-mail us or call our offices - 323-466-1786 - submit by April 27th to receive an early submission discount!

Slamdance filmmaker and events producer (if you enjoyed our Opening Party or any Happy Hours at our festival this year, he's the one to thank!) Howie Goldklang is in a national film competition on the CW Network called "Green Your World" - he's making a film per week for five weeks about eco-cool initiatives in Milwaukee - and he needs your views and  votes to win the competition!  So, go over to http://www.cwtv.com/..greenyourworld and vote for Howie, and help a fellow Slamdancer out!

Each month the Slamdance Film Festival Blog will host a special guest blog from one of our alumni filmmakers. The filmmakers can blog about anything film related. We're easy, ready, willing and tipsy enough to share the independent filmmaking experience from the perspective of our amazing alumni stash.
check the blog each month for alumni secrets, fears, loves, embarrassing moments, tips, tricks and hints of the indie film world.
This being the first special guest blog, we had to ask someone who just can't break free from the fixed grasp of Slamdance.....Heidi Van Lier.

She has made 3 feature films, “Chi Girl” which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival, “Monday” which screened as a special screening at the Slamdance Film Festival, and “American Decaf” which will make the festival rounds in 2009. So Friday was my first official day as Hospitality Coordinator.  It is my job to check in and greet every sponsor and jury member and hope and pray that I have the answers they need.  The first few hours of my job I felt trapped in a round of stump-the-chump.  Luckily my savior, Alexandra Schwab, was some how able to recall the name of every person involved with over 100 sponsors, "friends of the festival" and film offices. Every person that found their way up to our desk greeted Alex as though she was a long lost friend or relative, even though most had never met her in person.

Ash got mad about the first picture of her we used, so we'll use this one instead.  You're welcome.

(If you are a sponsor and you are reading this please forgive that I do not have you all memorized as Alex does.  I am fairly certain she's a robot or magical memorization creature.  Please feel free to say your name every time you see me, because thus far I love you all but I have no idea what any of your names are.  I just got here.)

Ok. Having admitted that: Slamdance is sort of wonderful so far. I'm reading about all of the films here and plotting how I can escape from my desk to watch them all.

Thursday night was the Housewarming Party at Star Bar.  It was a great opportunity not only to better bond with my co-workers but meet more of the filmmakers.  I expected a big industry-type party complete with name dropping, schmoozing, and those who don't make the cut turned away.  What I experienced was a charming packed party in a basement bar where everyone was on the same playing field.

I find myself in this odd state that even though I am part of the crew of the festival I want to know more about everything.  However, I am behind a desk.  I will stick to my post to make sure that any sponsor who needs tickets gets tickets!  I will stay brave and true, motivating our gracious sponsors to see as many films by our talented film makers as possible.

Feel free to come see me and say hi.  I am always at my desk.

So we had two uber exciting things happen at Slamdance within the past 24 hours: Sled Off and Inauguration.

There was much excitement on the slopes (or slope) and our ever wonderful photographer, Mika Shiozawa, had to dive to the sides a few times to avoid being taken out like a bowling pin.

If that wasn't enough excitement for you, everyone gathered today in the Monster Arcade to witness an historic event.

Emotions were high and it was truly wonderful to be around so many happy Americans (I love Americans!) Yay Hope! Yay Progress! Yay Pulling Up Of Metaphorical Socks!

From the perspective of someone who is not American, it was a truly inspirational moment, and has made my project to find green card adoptive parents for myself even more important. Do you think these two would do it?

Sorry about the lack of blogs yesterday you guys, when you have a series of red carpets and happy hours to shoot it can lead to two very exhausted and frazzled photographers. You kind of end up feeling like you want to strangle everybody:

However, when almost every cast and crew member of the films that walk the red carpet are lovely and hilarious, it kind of makes your job the best job ever. Can someone please bring me the shrinking powder from Beetlejuice so I can carry these four (from A Quiet Little Marriage) around in my pocket forever?

Also the entire cast and crew of Mississippi Damned:

I'm not sure about in my pocket, but I definitely want Mr. Fessenden sitting on my shoulder when I have to battle my way out of a maze of evil wizards:

Speaking of Wizards, how about this Wizard of Dodging The Cruel Hand of Ageing? What's up Ralph Macchio and your youthful complextion!

If you weren't already convinced working for Slamdance has its visual incentives, I leave with two words and the image below: Humunah Humanah.
