This year marks the 19th Anniversary of the Soundwaves Christmas Party. A food, clothing and toy drive that I have been proud to be a part of for almost two decades. The show this year will not only be broadcast live around the San Francisco Bay Area, but streaming live as well at PCT's Ustream WEBSITE. Every year, I look for a charity to champion, but this year, I thought I'd leave the decision up to YOU. Send me your suggestion for a charity to support, (preferably one that helps kids over the holidays) and if chosen, a donation will be made in YOUR NAME on the air during our live broadcast on Saturday December 6th starting at 5:00pm, Pacific Time. I want to announce my choice on Monday the 17th, so put your Santa/Thinking cap on and start posting your suggestions! Ho ho ho! SoundwavesChristmasParty.comSoundwavesTV.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Metropolis, Illinois Attempts Superman-Themed World Record
Metropolis, Illinois -On Sunday June 15th 2008, Superman fans from around the globe will attempt to set an official Guinness World Record for the "Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman" during the 30th Annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.
Every June, tens of thousands of Superman fans descend on the city of Metropolis, Illinois to celebrate the "Man of Steel". This year (June 12th to 15th, 2008) Superman fans will be given the opportunity to participate in a first of its kind, World Record setting event. While this record has never been attempted before, the Guinness Corporation set the parameter of at least 100 participants in approved costumes.
On Sunday afternoon (June 15th), participants will be required to meet at the designated area in town to sign in and have their costumes approved. At 5:00pm, the participants will be counted, gathered into an area at the base of the famous 15' tall bronze statue of Superman in the center of town and documented for the Guinness World Record Corporation.
"This is a one of a kind opportunity for any Superman enthusiast. We wanted to end the 30th Annual Celebration with a bang and I definitely think this is what we were looking for," said Karla Ogle, Chairman of the 30th Annual Superman Celebration.
Steven Kirk from Los Angeles, California approached the city with the idea. "It's Superman's 70th birthday, the 30th Superman Celebration in Metropolis, the 30th anniversary of the release of "Superman the Movie" and the 60th anniversary of the first appearance of Noel Neill as reporter Lois Lane. When you're throwing a party that big, I though a Guinness World Record would be some sweet icing on Superman's birthday cake," Kirk said.
The World Record attempt is open to men, women and children wearing a complete Superman costume consisting of a blue bodysuit, red cape, red trunks, red boots (or spats), yellow belt, and the famous red and yellow "S" logo on the chest. The costumes can either be store-bought or home made, but must be approved in advance to make sure they meet the stringent requirements set by the Guinness World Record Corporation for this event.
The four-day Metropolis Superman Celebration also includes an all-star lineup of Superman related celebrities (Actor Ned Beatty from "Superman I & II", "Smallville's" Allison Mack and the original Lois Lane, Noel Neill), comic book artists, vendors, family-friendly events and music.
For additional information regarding the "Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman" World Record attempt or the Metropolis Superman Celebration, please contact The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-949- 5740 or email at metrochamber@hcis.net.

Greetings fellow heroes,
I'm working with the City of Metropolis, Illinois to create the "Metropolis Walk of Heroes".
Similar to Hollywood's Walk of Fame, the sidewalk "shields" will bear the names of individuals who have contributed to the Superman Legacy over the past 70 years.
We are planning on doing an installation of 2 dozen terrazzo sidewalk inserts before winter and I'm pricing out vendors, and with over 1,700 friends, the odds are pretty good that if someone out there doesn't do custom terrazzo work, somebody knows somebody who does :)
The shields are to be 2' X 2'. Each will have a different name and there will be up to 5 different icons which will be added to the names.
Here's an example of the design for TV series star George Reeves with an icon for Television.

If you do this type of work or know somebody who does, just let me know!
Up, up and away!
Steve

Most of you know George Reeves as TV's first Superman. His place of birth was Woolstock, Iowa back in 1914.
If you're a fan of George Reeves and/or Superman, then please visit often and tell your friends to become a "Friend of George".
Thanks for visiting!

Hey all,
Okay, so not only am I'm a fan of the new show "Heroes", I'm also in pre-production on a feature film, so I'm interested in learning about viral marketing.
I find out that Claire & Zach (The Cheerleader & her confidante) have MySpace pages, which I decide to look around on.
In one of "Zach's" blogs is a link to www.childsplaycharity.org, a real life charity where you can find a Children's Hospital in your area, click on a link and go to an Amazon.com wish list that has toys, games, DVDs, etc. that have been requested by the kids.
The items for the Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego (the closest one to my Los Angeles location) has items ranging from a $3.25 Checkers/Backgammon set to a $300 X-Box system, but most items are under $30.
Here's a chance to be a hero to some sick children. Make a purchase yourself or maybe pool some money from friends or co-workers and get a few items.
Make a difference. Be heroic.
Thanks,
Steve

For the few of you (and I do mean "few") who saw "Hollywoodland" in theatres, and for the handful of others who will rent the DVD when it is released, I came across a piece of footage online which exemplifies one of the main problems I had with the film.
The video below is called "Candid Reporter", an early form of a pilot episode for a proposed series by George Reeves (along with his manager, Art Weissman). George hoped it would be sponsored by long-time "Adventures of Superman" sponsor, Kellogg's.
Towards the end of "Hollywoodland", Art Weissman hands detective Louis Simo a piece of film which he gravely intones "Will answer all your questions".
Simo watches the film and is saddened to see a broken-down, out of shape George Reeves flailing about in his back yard in an attempt to show that he's still in good shape. At the end of a series of tumbles and rolls, Affleck's Reeves hauls his battered body to his feet, creaking and groaning until the beaten and humiliated Reeves signals to Weissman to cut the camera.
The actual footage tells a different story. George worked out many times a week with Judo Gene LeBell (The Godfather of Grapple) and up until the day he died was is good shape for a man his age. The "Candid Reporter" footage, shot in 1955 and shows a virile, playful Reeves.
Quite different than how this piece of historical footage was represented in "Hollywoodland".
Even more telling is what you DON'T see, but what you hear. In between scenes, you can hear George calling the shots as director and having fun doing it.
Quite a stark contrast to the atmosphere and intention of the original production, and one the filmmakers chose to create to help sell their story. A story which ultimately proves to be a great disservice to the life, career and the memory of George Reeves.
Below is the original "Candid Reporter". Below that is a trailer for "Hollywoodland" with clips of the recreated footage. Enjoy your glance into the face of revisionist history.
Whether George Reeves shot himself or not (I tend to believe not…) he certainly deserved better.

Does a hero need a costume? A cape?
No, not all the time.
While the flights of fancy and stories of heroic daring-do we've come to expect from our comic book, TV and movie heroes certainly excite and enthrall, it's the actions of the people off screen and the people in the real world that truly inspire.
Today is January 5th, George Reeves' birthday, and a good day to talk about real life heroes.
George Reeves was known as "Honest George, The People's Friend", and "Adventures of Superman" co-star Jack Larson frequently comments that "George gave away more money than he ever earned."
George was also associated with the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, the City of Hope and a number of other charitable organizations.
But for the everyman, being a hero is not always a conscious choice. Sometimes we are thrown into situations that none of us can truly say how we would respond until it was upon us.
But just this last week, there came two stories of courage and fortitude from the city of New York.
The first story is the incredible, lifesaving bravery of a man who has been called the "Subway Superman". You can read the amazing story HERE.
The second story is about two men who rushed to the aid of a toddler who was dangling from a fourth floor fire escape. Read it HERE.
Read these stories and take a moment to be thankful that there are true, real life heroes in our midst, and remember, it's not enough to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I think we should add do FOR others as you have them do FOR you.
Someday YOU may find yourself in need of a hero, and a good way to increase your odds of finding one is to go out there and take the lead. Either take the lessons taught by the Man of Steel, or by three working class New York Supermen and be an example.
Be a hero.
Happy Birthday, George
