the mercy cage is pleased to announce the signing of a deal with new zealand label creepshow productions.
our relationship with DSBP these past few years has been tremendous, & we hope to continue working with Tommy T & The DSBP crew in some capacity in the future, & josh will remain a contributor to Tommy's Diverje project. DSBP remains one of the longest serving, hardest working & best Indie labels in America, but... we've talked up new zealand music a lot over the last couple of years, & figure it's time to get in behind an exciting new local record label. Creepshow Productions have done a fabulous job in putting together "Something Wicked This Way Comes", possibly the best compilation ever to come out of the new zealand dark-end scene. we're thrilled to be able to have a label of the quality of creepshow emerging in new zealand, & to get in & be a part of it on the ground floor.
stay tuned for plenty of news regarding the follow-up to 'scree:transmissions' in the coming months.
& check out a taster just uploaded to the mercy cage myspace profile "the jewellery thief", from the creepshow "something wicked..." compilation.

creepshow press release follows:
Creepshow Productions are proud to announce the signing of NZ's premier darkwave band The Mercy Cage. The Mercy Cage have been the stalwarts of NZ's dark underground scene for the last 8 years and with 2001's Rust: A Fiction (Mediatrix) and 2005s Scree: Transmissions (DSBP) both released to general critical acclaim both within NZ and abroad, Creepshow relishes the opportunity to work with the 'Cage in delivering the next long awaited album in 2009.
With a genuine focus on home, expect to see the Mercy Cage more in the live scene and playing some new rocking tracks as the new album comes to life.
In the meantime, check out the latest track from The Mercy Cage called "The Jewellery Thief" on the Something Wicked This Way Comes compilation.

over the last several years, every month or so we recieve an e-mail asking whether we'll ever re-release 'Wire', our debut album from 1999, or make the songs from it available for download again.
to be blunt, the answer on re-releasing it is no. we've discussed it with a couple of labels in the past, but i lost all of the recording sessions in a hard drive crash in early 2000 so there's little i can clean up & repair. listening back to it now, the record quality, execution, & standard of mix on 'Wire' is just below par.
for the same reason, i've baulked at making it available online.
but, a lot of people downloaded, bought, & enjoyed these recordings back in the day. misericordia & resurrection complex both topped the mp3.com charts for their respective genres for periods of months & were downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. yes, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS...crazy....no accounting for some peoples tastes : )
so, what the hell...
one minor condition, you will have to sign up to the mercy cage forum to access the archive. it's here: the mercy cage board @ pHmedia
the rationale behind this is that these tracks will cover the 1999 - 2001 period prior to the release of 'rust: a fiction', & if a body is browsing the internet looking for free music by TMC, i'd infinitely prefer them to have the hymn_01 E.P or future releases as a first point of reference. so...if you want 'em, you'll have to work, just a little bit.
without further ado, sign up or login to phmedia.info/forum to access a downloadable zip file of 1999s 'Wire'. if there's continued interest in this idea, we'll look at adding additional material from that era (compilations tracks, one off singles, remixes) in the coming months.
for free (& far more current) TMC music, check out the hymn_01:virtual E.P at hymn.themercycage.com
