Curious about the establishment of a second roller derby league in Denver?

First released in 2007, Talk Derby to Me “chronicles the efforts of a self-described ‘bunch of oddballs’ with a big desire to establish flat-track roller derby in Denver. No matter that these women haven’t roller skated in years, or ever in some cases. They just want to skate. And knock each other into next week. With on-rink personas like Manslaughter, Kaos, Rugburn and Rockett, it’s not surprising that eyes are blackened, egos bruised and relationships shattered along the way. Talk Derby to Me goes inside the flat-track roller derby phenomenon to discover why women love skating roller derby and fans love watching them. Women owned-and-operated flat-track roller derby has sprung up in more than 100 cities across the U.S., and it’s a phenomenon that only the derby girls themselves can explain. Talk Derby to Me features wicked-fast skating, backroom brawling, and a roll-the-dice attitude that leads 26 women to risk everything for the chance to create something invaluable, a place where they can truly be themselves. Talk Derby to Me is a Let’s Be Frank production, produced, written and directed by Frank X. Hogan in association with the Denver Roller Dolls.”

On Nov. 1, 2009 come learn how the Denver Roller Dolls league came into existence. After the showing, stay for an exclusive meet-and-greet with Director/Producer Frank X. Hogan. Several of the league’s founders will also be in attendance.

There is no cost to view the short film, but donations will be accepted. Drink specials will be available for those who donate at least $5. Denver Roller Dolls merchandise will also be available for sale.

Note: This film has language and content that is not suitable for young children.

The Denver Roller Dolls have partnered up with Breast Impressions, Inc. for an “impressive” Charity Auction!

Breast Impressions (www.breastimpressions.com) is a 501(c) (3) Non-Profit Organization with a mission to “increase breast cancer awareness and fund-raising to support breast cancer education, prevention and treatment.” The Denver Roller Dolls are honored to be their latest partner in their work with members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

Several members of the team have had their busts cast and decorated by local artists. These one-of-a-kind works of art will be available for purchase at half-time at the league championship bout, with 100% of the proceeds going to Young Empowered Survivors, a local cancer survivor support group.

Ariel “Crash Dance” Quigley worked with artist Josh Wills
Bones Patrol worked with artist Amanda “Asyrum” Flores
Charli Horse worked with artist Cindy Loya
Grannyy Apple worked with artist Sandi Calistro at Kaze Gallery
Julie Phan worked with artist Mike Graves
Mis-hell On Wheels worked with our own doll Amy “Aim n Buster” Cleveland

The Mile High Club has earned a spot in the National Tournament, to be held in Philadelphia Nov. 13-15, 2009. We have established a registry for fans to show their support and help ease the financial burden of the trip.

The registry can be found at http://www.travelersjoy.co..m/members/denverrollerdoll..s. Fans can show their support by purchasing anything from a single bottle of water ($3) up to a plane ticket for a skater ($200); every bit helps!

To show our appreciation, we’re offering a special deal through Oct. 18th. For every $30 worth of support, the donor receives one entry into a drawing for a pair of free tickets to our last home bout of the season, on Oct 24th. So, buy us a pair of new shorts ($40) and you get one entry. Spring for some new skates for Julie “Angela Death” Adams ($120) and you’ll receive 4 entries. If you were planning on supporting the team, now’s the time!

Please note: you must let us know in the message field of the form that you’re interested in being entered for the drawing.

On Oct 2, 2009, a Derby News Network article speculated that "Denver has possibly been the single most improved team in all of WFTDA play if one looks at their record since their entry in October 2007." A mere two days later, the Mile High Club secured a spot at the WFTDA Nationals Tournament for the first time in team history. The tournament, Declaration of Derby, will take place in Philadelphia from Nov 13-15, 2009.

Denver Roller Dolls is a non-profit, skater-run organization. The skaters pay to play, with their blood, sweat and tears. Unfortunately, hotels and airlines don't appear to accept those forms of currency.

The skaters work hard to compete at this level, and we want to ensure they can focus on their training in the few weeks that remain before the tournament. To take "fundraising" off their list of concerns, please consider helping them fly, rest, eat and enjoy a celebration in Philly!

Please visit http://www.travelersjoy.com/members/denverrollerdolls/ to buy something for a skater.

October 1, 2009 - Thursday
The DRD Season Championship is between the Bad Apples (2-0) and the Shotgun Betties (1-1). The Bad Apples beat the Shotgun Betties back in May with a score of 141-127, but after five months and significant roster changes, this is a whole new game.

This bout is a double header featuring Men's Derby: The Harm City Homicide of Baltimore vs. the Dry Heat Militia of Tucson.
