Action Rocks – Raising awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy through music
This September see’s the first major music event at the newly re-opened and refurbished Howden Park Centre Auditorium in Livingston and what an event it should be. Action Rocks is a benefit gig in aid of Action Duchenne, the dedicated charity working towards better standards of care and finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The event is the brainchild of Colin Baxter, frontman with local band The Levings who discovered last year that the 3 year old son of one of his closest friends had been diagnosed with the disease. Colin said “It came as a bit of a shock as you never expect these things to happen to people you know. Once I heard, my immediate reaction was that I had to do something to help. Being in a band, the most obvious thing to do was put on a benefit gig, so that’s how Action Rocks came about”.
The gig will take place on Saturday 12th September and will feature some of West Lothian’s finest talent in the form of The Levings, Capstin Pole, Burnout and Pedantics along with headline act Hip Parade of Channel 4’s T4 Unsigned fame and fresh from a performance at T in the Park this year.
Duchenne is a fatal muscle wasting condition, affecting mainly boys, for which there is currently no cure.
On average 2 boys are born every week with Duchenne. Diagnosed in early childhood these young children face a life confined to a wheelchair from as young as 8. In their teenage years as their muscles weaken they lose the ability to do everyday tasks such as feed themselves. Their hearts and lungs weaken and as a result they face a short life of between 18-25 years. Around 100 young lives are lost to Duchenne every year.
Colin and all those involved with Action Rocks are determined to make the night a success to raise as much money as possible for the ongoing research being undertaken by Action Duchenne in order to help the thousands who suffer from this terrible disease.
A sell out gig will go a long way to helping towards the great work Action Duchenne carry out.
Tickets for the gig go on general sale on 3rd August through the Box Office on 01506 777666
