Hometown Paper LasVegas Weekly Features Mr. Finley

Home is where it starts first! So when LasVegas Weekly wanted to feature Mr. Finley, the first Vegas emcee signed to Def Jam, it was go time.

Here's an excerpt of the feature:

“I’m from the Westside, and I’ve seen a lot and been involved in a lot. There’s another side to this city,” he says. “Living here is a gift and a curse. This town respects money. I don’t think the Strip is opposed to showing local rappers love, but you have to be established, and we’re not established yet. The deal is really only the beginning. Once you get it, it’s like you’re back at square one. You’re not just competing with people in your own city. You have to compete 100 times harder.”

RefinedHype: Your sound’s been compared to everyone from Outkast to 2Pac. How has Vegas influenced your music?

Mr. Finley: Vegas influenced my music really to the level that the average Vegas nigga - that operates like me – operates off basically five hours of sleep – if you lucky. So it’s like whatever you doing – it’s non-stop, you’re always on the clock out here because everybody’s always up, so it’s like I’ve applied that to my work ethic really. It’s like… if I’m at the studio and if I’m not done with what I came there to do, then I’m not fucking leaving. I will be up and I will be at that shit until it’s done.
