FAQ for 2009 Arkansas Hip-Hop Showcase

Q: What is this Showcase thing?

A: The 2009 Arkansas Hip-Hop Showcase is a competition to find out who is the best rapper in the state of Arkansas. Arkansas has so many talented artists, but many don’t have the tools to get the exposure they deserve. This competition aims to shed light on those artists that deserve to be heard by the public and have a solid chance to put the A-State on the map in the hip-hop world.

Q: Why does my act have to pay a $10 submission fee?

A: As I’m sure you’re aware, many artists out there think they are the best when they are plain out wack. This fee eliminates non-serious artists from the legitimate ones, as this contest genuinely wants to find the best-untapped rappers in the state. Good talent deserves to be noticed. The fee also helps cover the costs to put on this event so that it can be as successful as possible.

The $10 fee is for artists who submit on or before Fri. July 17th.

Q: About the music. Does my music have to have original beats? Does my music have to be edited?

Yes and no. Originality is a key criteria in this competition and the Showcase is looking for the best ORIGINAL A-State showcase. Anybody can do karaoke. The music does not have to be edited, hip-hop never has been (with the exception of the radio) why should it be edited now?

Q: What is the process of this competition?

A: There are two rounds.

The first round is a preliminary round where all participants submit three original tracks, brief information about the act to post on OnThaGrind.net and a $10 entry fee, either online, by mail, or a central Arkansas drop-off can be arranged. The submission is due Fri. July 17th for the $10 fee. A panel of judges will review all of the submissions using a pre-arranged scoring system and 10 finalists will be selected to perform in the finals at Vino's in Little Rock on August 1st for the grand prize.

Q: Okay, so what exactly do I do to submit my act into the Showcase?

A: Easy. There are three ways to go about submitting your act, one way being online (preferred) and one way via mail.
