“Defeated” is the 3rd solo album from Nick Forte’. Forte’s first two solo albums fell squarely in the electronic/computer music camp but “Defeated” tells another story entirely: Live to cassette acoustic scrape/rattle and misguided pedal loopery, emitted from a pile of junk, grunts, and small instruments, drawing inspiration from Forte’s longtime fascination with the free improvisation of early AACM and Incus Records folks, filtered through a more modern noise/tape collage absurdist kind of thing. Material culled from a swelteringly hot week long blowout session summer of 2008 in his attic studio, “Defeated” has an intimate presence and desperate portrayal of spontaneous, wrinkled sound creation. Nick Forte’ is member of the bands Christmas Decorations and Hells Hills, and is probably best known as being a guitarist for hardcore/punk luminaries Rorschach.
