Hey Everyone,
I wanted to bring something to everyone's attention, especially other instrumentalists out there. I have recently come across a few blogs on the web that are publishing links to a staggering amount of instrumental albums and songs being hosted on common file sharing services. In order to protect the material of those musicians listed on these sites, I am not going to publish the actual links here, but if you are a musician and you would like to know what the links are, feel free to contact me directly.
Piracy has put a huge dent in entertainment industry revenue. It hurts our economy, it hurts independent artists, and it hurts the fans because most indie guys and girls rely heavily on sales to produce more music. Some feel that they are helping lesser known musicians by distributing their music all over the place, and to some extent, I would agree with that. However, posting an entire album on a website for anyone to download is NOT the way to help. Posting samples does the job just fine, and there is obviously an intent to avoid paying for content (or help others avoid paying) when it is posted/downloaded at very high quality and in its entirety. Some artists are ok with this, others are not. If one artist freely distributes their material, that's their business. It does not mean everyone else has to follow suit, and it's certainly no excuse for other people to publish material they do not own.
There are a lot of folks out there who are honest and pay for the content they download, and I thank you ladies and gents with the utmost sincerity for supporting the producers. I'm just not happy with the fact that certain individuals out there feel it is ok to distribute the work of hard working indie artists and completely disrespect our copyright. I'm not the kind of person who is looking to sue everybody, but I'm also not going to allow it to continue if I'm aware of certain instances that are clearly infringing copyright. I don't feel it is right that honest people who support indie music should have to put up with this type of criminal behavior either, and ultimately feel the effects of it when there is less music being produced as a result.
So, I'm asking everyone... if you come across illegal content, or if you see someone passing content around as if it were ok, please let them know it's not cool or let the artist know about it. I personally will not tolerate it. I'm also open to suggestions on how to battle piracy, but if you disagree with my stance, it's probably in your best interest to keep it to yourself. :)
As always, thanks for the support and interest. Hopefully, there will be a lot more to come!

Hey there, I hope everyone is having a great summer! Had a few things I wanted to get out there and let you all know about...
###### 'FOLLOW THE SUN' DISTRIBUTION UPDATE ###### It's been about a month since the new CD was released, and I'm really glad to hear you guys are digging the new material! Thanks very much to everyone who has picked up a copy already! As far as distribution goes, the new album is sitting in inventory at CD Baby and has been authorized for digital distribution to iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, and several other major online retailers. However, CD Baby has been undergoing some massive changes to its storefront, and it seems the process is a little slow right now. I have been pushing to get the CD listed as soon as possible, and I'm hoping I will have some news on that in the next week or two. For those who also frequent Guitar 9 Records, the new disc will be available through http://www.guitar9.com over the next week or two as well.
###### NOW ON FACEBOOK ###### As the old saying goes... out with the old, in with the new. MySpace has been a great resource for bands and musicians to get their music heard, and it is still a very powerful tool in that regard. BUT, as most of you probably know, FaceBook is the new kid in town. In an effort to keep in touch with you all who may have moved away from MySpace over the past few months, I'm now on FaceBook and I tried to send out some invitations through the FaceBook website. I doubt you all received the invitation, so I'm also posting it here. Please feel free to use the link below or just look me up and send a friend request (or join the Fan Page). Also, if you know of anyone who might be interested in this style of music, I would immensely appreciate if you would suggest it to them and help spread the word!
http://www.facebook.com/pages/DC-Slater/136197160931
Please understand this doesn't mean I'm totally ditching MySpace. I still intend to post info on both sites, but I know many of you are on FaceBook and use it a lot. It's "viral" as they say, and it should make communication a little easier and eliminate a lot of spam.
###### STONE TEMPLE PILOTS RELEASE NOW AVAILABLE ###### Wait, did I just write that? :) You guys have read about this thing for the past YEAR, and it's been delayed several times... but it's finally out there! The Stone Temple Pilots Tribute tribute album that myself & Brian Colburn perform on (covering the band's 1994 hit "Unglued") is now available through http://www.briancolburn.com/wickedgarden -- hope you enjoy the re-working we did with the tune! You can also hear a pretty lengthy sample of it using the same link above. Please note that there are very limited copies available directly from us at that price ($9.99 USD).
That's all for now... the next update should be about iTunes. Thanks for your patience and support!!

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on the CD preorders. There were some more delays during manufacturing and it has forced the ship date out to July 29th. I received confirmation today that the CD's are on their way across the country, so delivery time is also a factor in this. So for those who have preordered the new album, you should expect to receive it within the next two weeks. I sincerely apologize for the added wait time and thank you for your patience.
I also wanted to let you all know that you can now hear "Signs" in it's entirety here on MySpace - Check it out!
I'm also working on getting the new songs to iTunes ASAP, so another message will be sent out when that is all set up.
More soon, -DC

Hey everyone, I hope all is well with you guys! This is an email I was hoping to send out last month, but...
###### NEW ALBUM PREORDERS AND DOWNLOADS NOW AVAILABLE ######
The new album, "Follow The Sun", is now available in two forms...
1. CD PREORDER - CD preorders are scheduled to start shipping on July 20th - and that's 2009 for those of you who were expecting more delays... :) You can place preorders through http://dcslater.com/music/follow_the_sun if interested.
2. MP3 DOWNLOAD - This is a new feature on http://dcslater.com - As I mentioned in my last email, the album would be released earlier via digital download. You can visit the new digital store at http://dcslater.com/music/digital and purchase tracks from any of the three albums. The cool thing about this is you can download the new stuff immediately after purchasing it... no need to wait until the 20th.
Samples are available through either area, and will be on http://www.myspace.com/dcslater shortly as well.
Now, one important thing to note and I know this will be a frequent question... I have no dates on when the new songs will be available on iTunes. It could take 6 weeks... it could take 6 months... but now you have the alternative of grabbing the MP3 files right from http://dcslater.com - They are the same high quality MP3 tracks offered on iTunes, with the added bonus of not having Apple's proprietary format.
###### STONE TEMPLE PILOTS TRIBUTE DELAYED UNTIL AUGUST 11th ###### "Wicked Garden: A Millennium Tribute to Stone Temple Pilots" was scheduled to be released by Versailles Records on July 14th, 2009. Due to the very sad and untimely death of Michael Jackson, Sony has had to fulfill a massive demand for his music over the past weeks and has postponed most other projects until the end of summer. The new tentative release date is slotted for August 11th, 2009. More information on this as I receive it...
###### THANKS, AND SOME OTHER STUFF TO CHECK OUT ###### I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank several people who have helped out on this last album...
Brian Colburn Brian and I have been making music together for various projects over the past 10 years. In addition to laying down bass tracks on "Follow The Sun", Brian has also released his second acoustic studio album entitled "Time Marches On". Brian had asked me to play lead guitar on the title track, which was a lot of fun... great groove! You can check out his latest music at http://briancolburn.com/
Vince Sebastian Vince has been putting in some serious time as photographer and art director on the new album. He has a really great artistic vision and does some mind bending things with graphics software. The cover art and tray on "Follow The Sun" were all Vince... great shots of the desert horizon. To check out more of his work, including his music (yes, he does it all) visit him on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/vincesebastian
Rick Andrews A great friend and guitarist who has helped promote my music on several occassions. Rick has recorded a LOT of upbeat instrumental jams over the past few years and his sound is very distinct! Some very cool stuff on his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/rickandrews
Adrian Jones Another all around great guy... Ade has produced several projects over the past few years. His latest entitled 'Nine Stones Close' brings together flashes of lightning lead work with some deep grooves and mysterious effects. A great story teller! Check him out at http://www.myspace.com/ninestonesclose
Scott McLean Pittsburgh based drummer Scott McLean ranks high on the class charts. Scott has supported my efforts and has helped spread the word about my music to a lot of folks, including the legendary Joe Satriani. Check out his rock stylings on CD Baby when you get a chance: http://cdbaby.com/cd/scottmclean2 or drop him a line on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/scottmcleanmusic

How's it going guys n gals? Just an update on some release information, since things are starting to happen around here...
###### NEW ALBUM: "FOLLOW THE SUN" TO BE RELEASED NEXT MONTH (JULY) ###### If you guys are scratching your heads and wondering if the album title has changed... it has! I had thought about several possible titles over the past few months. After working with my talented compadre, Vince Sebastian, on the art direction I came up with 'Follow The Sun' and immediately felt it was a better choice for this release. You can check out Vince's awesome cover art idea in the 'Artwork' album on MySpace.
I also tried really hard to make a June release date happen, but there were a few obstacles that came up during post production, leading to another delay. The release is now scheduled for mid-July, but there will be an option to download the digital album (or individual mp3's) directly from http://dcslater.com roughly two weeks prior to the actual CD release. I should have samples of all the tracks also available within the next week or two. Another update will be sent out when they are online...
###### STONE TEMPLE PILOTS TRIBUTE TO BE RELEASED JULY 14TH ###### "Wicked Garden: A Millennium Tribute to Stone Temple Pilots" is scheduled to be released by Versailles Records on July 14th, 2009. On this compilation will be remakes/covers of some of STP's best material, performed and recorded by current/former members of Concrete Blonde, Black Sabbath, Racer X, Megadeth, Badlands, Alice Cooper Band, Fuel, Surgical Steel, Circle Jerks, Slash's Snakepit, Warrant, Steelheart, Michael Shanker Group, Dokken, L.A. Guns, Machine Head, Ratt, WASP, Quiet Riot... and others. Brian Colburn and I had chosen to cut a slower, acoustic version of "Unglued" off of STP's 1994 release "Purple". Limited copies will be available through http://dcslater.com and http://briancolburn.com - more information to follow.

More very soon... thanks, as always, for supporting the music!

Hey Everyone, Spring is here... or, at least it's supposed to be. So I wanted to give everyone a "State of the Jams" update since I've been getting some questions about when the new disc is expected to be released.
###### NEW ALBUM: "SINNERS AND SAINTS" TO BE RELEASED THIS JUNE ###### As of right now, the new album should be released sometime in June. An actual date has not been determined yet for a number of reasons. What I can tell you is that the new album will be entitled "Sinners and Saints" and that I am in the process of wrapping up production by the end of April, and moving to post-production the first 2 to 3 weeks of May. If all goes well and we have no hangups with manufacturing, you can expect to get your hands on the new disc in June (and before June 20th if I can help it, which is technically still spring and won't make a big liar out of me). With that said, I do apologize for the delay in getting this album out. There have been quite a few changes in my life since Altitude was released in June of 2007, and I really appreciate everyone's patience! Additional samples will also be added online in May.
###### STONE TEMPLE PILOTS TRIBUTE TO BE RELEASED NEXT MONTH ###### I'm sure many of you have forgotten about this little side project that Brian Colburn (http://www.briancolburn.com) and I jumped on with Versailles Records. We did too, actually. But we heard from Versailles a few weeks ago and they are planning to release "Wicked Garden: A Millennium Tribute to Stone Temple Pilots" this May. Guns, Machine Head, Ratt, WASP, Quiet Riot, ([inhale])... and others. Brian and I had chosen to cut a slower, acoustic version of "Unglued" off of STP's 1994 release "Purple". I'll have more details about an actual release date and availability in a few weeks.
###### YOUTUBE AUDIOSWAP ###### Ok, you YouTubers... need some instrumental jams to use in your videos as backing tracks? Well, thanks to some great business-minded individuals over at YouTube, you can now use any of the tracks off my first album (Decisions) for free in your videos - and the best part is... it's totally legal! (Not that I go around suing people on a whim, but this is still pretty cool news...) There is a feature on YouTube called AudioSwap, and you should be able to find any of those 11 tracks in their online library. I am also working on getting all the Altitude tracks in there, and eventually, the new stuff from the upcoming release. For more info on AudioSwap, check out http://www.youtube.com/audioswap_main
###### NEW REVIEW OF ALTITUDE ON PROGSLOB.COM ###### It's been a while since I had anyone review my material, mainly because it's hard to find "real" reviewers who aren't just looking to get their hands on a free CD in exchange for writing 3 sentences... but Jon Konrath over at ProgSlob.com is the MAN! Jon had actually emailed me offering to review my music, but since I'm absolutely horrible at responding to my emails in a timely fashion (sorry Jon), he actually went out, bought the CD, AND wrote an awesome review which you can check out at http://www.progslob.com/?p=679 -- Jon, thanks again man! Truly appreciated, and your writing is excellent! Guys and gals, check out his site for more news and great reviews at http://www.progslob.com
###### JAMTRAX + DEMO VIDEOS: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR/SEE NEXT? ###### JamTrax, the area on dcslater.com where you can jam along to actual studio backing tracks, has been a huge success! I'd love to add a few more backing tracks to the list, but I need your feedback. What songs do you guys want added? Also, I've received a ton of positive feedback on the MySpace demo videos... same thing goes there. Just let me know what you want to see and I'll crank out a few more demo's - ahh, the power of democracy! ;) But seriously, thanks for all the compliments and I'm glad you guys are digging the interactive stuff!
Also, I've had a few people write and tell me that they try to sign up for JamTrax and never receive an access code in their email. Chances are the email is getting sent to your spam/junk folder, particularly if you have a Yahoo mail account. Be sure to check your spam folder before freaking out... it's probably in there. If it's still nowhere to be found, no problem. Just contact me and I'll personally send you an access code.
###### ATTENTION GEARHEADS: DS-1 PEDAL MOD UPDATES ###### Several months ago, I had mentioned that I was working on my own breed of a Boss DS-1 pedal modification that I am planning to put on the market. Just to give those interested a heads up, I am getting closer to making this happen. It hasn't fallen through the cracks or disappeared off the radar... it will happen. I will keep you guys informed as more progress is made.
########################
Ok, I think that covers it for the time being... there should be a few more emails over the next few months with everything coming up. As always, I appreciate the support and all the compliments... you guys rock!
