Mahjong & D'Layna's "So Thankful" music track featured on ABC TV Series "Castle".  They changed the title of the song to So Gracious so it would not conflict with our releases of "So Thankful".

I wanted to share with you an opportunity God blessed me with.

I was asked by DMX Zone, a Creative Development company to use my music in their product demo; Sliding Billboard & Flash MP3 Player Bundle.

Mention of this went out in their newsletter to 125,000 subscribers.

Thank YOU LORD!

Check them out for your creative development needs!

Why I sing!

From time to time I get asked "Why do I sing?"  I'd like to answer this question in my blog.

I could go into the history of how it all began, which is interesting, but I want to get right to the answer of the question.

A few years back, I had just finished singing at a church and was approached by a young man who said to me "I was thinking of committing suicide tonight and when I heard you sing it touched my heart and changed my mind".  I was taken back and so blown away.  We talked for a moment and gave him a hug and went home in awe.

It was on my way home that I realized that my voice was not for my purpose solely, but for God's purpose.  It was mind boggling to me that my voice could impact someone that way.

When I'm ready to write a new song I ask God "What do you want me to say in this song?"  I quit trying to write to be trendy or deep.......God is deep enough for me.....whatever He say's I type.  There are times I have to re-record because God's presence enters the vocal booth and I cry or go into worship hitting the mic stand and anything in my way :).  I love it when God takes over!

I do write other tracks that are fun, about love, songs to make you dance, but for the most part my songs have to have a positive message, His message.

I thank God for allowing this young man's path to cross with mine.  It changed my focus and purpose for why I sing.

So to sum it up, I sing because God has blessed me with this gift for His glory and purpose and to touch the souls he guides me to.

God Bless you ALL

Current mood:  thankful

On Saturday, May 24th, my mother, Dora Castillo passed away to be with her Lord and Savior.

In March 2008 my mother found out she had stomach cancer.  My first thought was "Why her?"  This is a woman of God, a faithful servant, the prayer warrior.    But in life, there is always a lesson to be learned from each situation.

My mother worked in the hospital over 30 years as a caregiver. Many of her patients had cancer.  As employees of the hospital you are not allowed to pray with the patients, but somehow she found a way and would pray with them with their permission.  During her busy day she would take the time to visit and comfort the patients because some were alone in the world or family would not visit.  She was full of compassion, love and kindness.

It was very hard for us to see this woman of great faith NOT CRY during her last two months.  When her pastor visited her in the hospital, she said to him, "I told my family not to cry for me because I am going to a better place".  She gave our family the strength to keep it together.  Of course, we all cried, but privately.  My mother remained faithful and continued to go to church until the end.  She was not going to stop living and serving just because she had cancer.

For weeks my mother had been against having a medical bed and morphine.  As a caregiver she knew that once you got the medication you would be in and out.  In her last week we asked if she wanted the bed and she said "Yes".  It was her sign to us "I'm Ready".

The week she passed she pointed to me to sit down next to her and held my hand.  As I looked into her glazed eyes I knew something was different.  I held the tears back, until her favorite song played on XM Radio titled "Sanctuary".  When she tried to sing along she was gasping for air to say the words.  I turned my face to sing with her and let the tears go.  It was apparent my mother knew she was going to be with the Lord soon.

The night before she passed we called everyone so they could have their last words with her.  The next morning at 9:45AM she took her last breath with ease and peace was written all over her face.

My mother had everything planned.  She picked out her casket, flowers, preachers, songs and the preacher's message, which was SALVATION.  She wanted a celebration and a celebration is what she got.  There were over 400 people at her service.  I had the privilege of playing a song I wrote that was inspired by my mother titled "Live for Today".

In April 2008 my mother and I had a conversation regarding miracles and life in general.  We talked about how some never get the chance to tell someone they love them or forgive them for a wrong doing.  They wait until it's too late and live to regret it.  Don't live so far out into the future that you forget about the blessings in front of you today.  Love your children, family and friends that have been given to you.  LIVE FOR TODAY!!   I had the privilege to sing the song to my mother and family a cappella on Mother's Day.   With some help from my friends I was able to record the song and play it during her funeral service.  Sean, THANK U for the music!

THANK YOU MOTHER FOR BEING SUCH AN INSPIRATION AND FOOTPRINT FOR YOUR FAMILY TO FOLLOW.  YOU ARE A LEGACY FOR SURE AND TOGETHER WE WILL TRY TO FILL YOUR SHOES AND CONTINUE YOUR LOVE AND MINISTRY AS PRAYER WARRIORS.

What was the lesson I learned?  It was to live each day like it's my last, to love like there's no tomorrow and forgive until the sun goes down.

D'LAYNA is an inspired and inspirational vocalist/writer/producer whose uplifting voice regularly lights up the skies over clubland from sunny San Francisco to urban New York and abroad. Her spiritual "Love Is The Answer" is what she refers to as her picket sign for peace, a beautiful, soul anthem with a thought-provoking message for our times.  Peace is timeless she says, lets take the message to the floor.

But D'Layna isn't simply just the dynamic "dancefloor diva". She is equally skilled in the recording studio, holding co-production credits for the creative sound development of Picture Perfect a Latin female group. D'Layna also travelled the world on MC Hammer's memorable and successful "1992 Too Legit to Quit" Tour as leader of female vocal group.

Indeed, music has been D'Layna's life since she was 11 years old and first heard "the Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin and, later, her disciple Chaka Khan. D'Layna's music took on an even more spiritual dimension when she joined the gospel world, learning from such consummate professionals as Walter, Tramaine and Edwin Hawkins of the influential Love Center Choir. D'Layna also toured over six years with Lynette Hawkins-Stephens, better known as "Little Sis".

The list of studio luminaries with whom D'Layna has worked is endless including Grammy award-winning producer Michael Narada Walden (producer of Whitney Houston, Patti Austin, Aretha Franklin et al), Carl Wheeler (of the multi-platinum recording group "Tony, Toni, Tone"), Louis Biancanello (producer of Jessica Simpson, Aretha Franklin and many more), Felton Pilate (of Confunction and Andy Norell), Sista Monica, Tony Lindsay and many more.

D'Layna is also proud to be the first Latina to receive an award from "Sistuh to Sistuh", a Bay Area women's music organization, in recognition of her musical activities and vocal gift.

After her success as a producer/writer, D'Layna effortlessly stepped across into the lively underground house scene where she collaborated with Production Team "Soul Vision" alongside Jose Burgos (Soul Creation/Basscleff Records) and Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) to create such dancefloor favorites as "Don't Stop" and "You've Been on My Mind"(Fluential).

Throughout 2001, D'Layna's acclaimed "Special", Kings of Tomorrow remix, made huge waves on the underground club scene, with the dub being snapped up for licensing on Victor Calderone's "E=VC2, Vol 2", (Tommy Boy Silver Label), and on John Blair's Logic Records (both released March 2001).

D'Layna is busy working on Vocal Downloads a new business she created offering a large bank of Acapella Vocal Samples for use in clearance free, royalty-free music productions
