ACCLAIMED SINGER SONGWRITER JENNIFER KNAPP IS LETTING GO IN 2010

Knapp Returns With New Album After A Seven Year Hiatus; Spring Tour With Derek Webb And Summer Lilith Fair Tour

Listen to New Music Here

Grammy nominated, Dove Award winning Jennifer Knapp returns from a seven year hiatus with a new album, Letting Go (Graylin/RED/Thirty Tigers) on May 11th 2010.   This spring she will preview her new music on a co-headline tour with Derek Webb kicking off on March 5th in New York City and she will also join this summer’s Lilith Fair tour.  Fans can pre-order the album on tour and receive an exclusive CD of acoustic demos from the record.  Recorded in Nashville, Letting Go is produced by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Martha Wainwright, Amy Grant) and features ten intimate folk, country tinged rock songs showcasing her astonishing straightforwardness and spirituality.   Click HERE to listen to new music.

“It is a humbling honor to have such devoted fans that have waited for my return to writing and performing,” explains Jennifer Knapp. “For me, it is the refuge of quiet places that has always birthed the depths of sincerity that music unveils. In the end, no song carries it's full voice until it has been shared. It is truly overwhelming to have the opportunity to reemerge with a fresh vision and passion knowing that lovers of music are there to share the joy.”

John Huie of CAA adds, "She's like a fine cabernet.  She only gets better with age.  The sabbatical did her good."

Jennifer Knapp

Knapp’s impressive history includes selling over one million albums with her previous releases Kansas (debut 1998), Lay It Down (2000), and The Way I Am (2001).    The Kansas-born musician toured the globe with artists such as Jars of Clay and was featured on 1999’s Lilith Fair tour.  Her music often described as intimate folk, country tinged rock songs showcases her astonishing straightforwardness and spirituality.   Knapp received critical acclaim with The Los Angeles Times calling her “a rising star" and People Magazine describing her as “an uncommonly literate songwriter." Jennifer went on to win her first Dove Award in 1999 for Best New Artist, scored a Grammy nod in 2002 and another Dove nomination in 2003.  With a considerable fan base, critical and commercial successes, Knapp walked away from it all at the height of her career.  After seven years of soul searching and time spent in Australia, Knapp comes full circle in 2010 with a new album, new tour and a renewed love of music.  She will play on the re-vamped Lilith Fair tour, the first one in 10 years. Since Jennifer played on the last one in ’99, being asked to play the re-launch is very special, a reminder of why Jennifer came back to her musical roots.

Derek Webb

Singer-songwriter Derek Webb continues to tour in support of his latest album, Stockholm Syndrome (INO/Columbia Records). The most provocative and stirring release of his storied career, Stockholm Syndrome delivers everything listeners have come to expect from Derek Webb: killer pop hooks and lyrics as thought provoking as they are emotionally revealing. Webb co-produced Stockholm Syndrome with former Caedmon's Call bandmate Josh Moore (Bun-B, Slim Thug), a producer who in recent years has lent his ear to hip-hop recording projects. Derek Webb is an innovator in the evolving music landscape from his social network and Twitter followers to his highly publicized 2006 free album downloads. www.derekwebb.com

Current mood:  grateful
Many thanks to all who attended the Belcourt show! No doubt it will be an event that will stay warmly in my memory for a long time to come. I am honestly grateful for the heart with which many of you entered into that small room. Though at times I felt as if I were walking about with my hospital gown open at the back, you were kind to laugh with me! Special thanks to Amy Courts, Tony Lucido, Jeremy Lutito, Paul Moak and Nathan Dugger for working extra hard on short notice...I am truly humbled to share the stage with their big beautiful hearts!

Anyway, I'm glad you are all showing up in your various forms, avatars, seat warmers and general digital correspondence...my how things have changed! Some general boring news...

Yes...I realize that you would all prefer facebook...well, let's just say that the general impostors throughout the years have taken their toll and I am having to jump through some hoops to prove that I am actually the legit form of the singing Kansan. It will take some time. We're continuing behind the scenes construction for a more fluid jenniferknapp.com as well. Per usual, those who hang here & on twitter or join the email list at jenniferknapp.com will be the first to know of any updates. love,love,love...Jennifer

One of the songs we tracked today is called 'On Love'. Since you can't hear it yet, thought you might like to have a sneak peak at the lyrics. I've held onto this one for quite some time. I wrote it while I was writing for The Way I Am record, but we didn't end up putting it on the record. It's a bold move for me, as I am still quite intimidated by the song itself. I've written it into many set lists, but always bailed at the last minute, skipping over it. But I have wept too many times while playing it home alone to chicken out now. It is time to let her fly...Anyway, the lyrics:

Hey love, isn't that enough running away?/ Stay.../ I have waited long/ but never given up/ I have waited on you/ but never, never on love.../ Take my hand/ feel the sand slipping away.../and you remain/ I have waited long/ but never given up/ I have waited on you/ but never, never on love.../ So cling to me and I will be forever/ I will heal and you will feel much better/ you'll feel much better.../I have waited long/ but never given up/ I have waited on you/ but never on love...

Heading back into the studio this week & I am super excited! The process of sharing the new tunes with other musicians & their own special contributions to the making of a record never ceases to astound me. Up to this point, I've usually kept most of the music close to my own heart, playing them alone at home without the worries of the vulnerabilities that occur upon the sharing of them. Now comes the time when others are invited in. The challenges of sharing songs crafted in quiet selfish places to enter the light of day and are released like leaves in the wind, to become what they were meant to be to others. It is scary and at the same time, exhilarating! I wonder what will happen?...Jennifer

Jennifer Knapp returns to the stage with a new album in the works for 2010

The Los Angeles Times called Jennifer Knapp "a rising star"; People Magazine described her as "an uncommonly literate songwriter"; and Billboard proclaimed, "Knapp proves herself to be the cream that rises to the top." Her impressive critical praise only hints at her musical gifts, but grasping the true Jennifer Knapp experience is realized only by the empowering touch of her voice.

This Kansas-born singer-songwriter quickly sold over One Million copies of her three label releases, Kansas (debut), Lay It Down, and The Way I Am. Kansas is now RIAA certified Gold. Coupled with extensive touring, Jennifer has proven herself as a folk-inspired rock artist whose masterful stroke paints redemptive portraits of life's bumpy road. Song after song, she empties her soul through catchy poetic lyrics that utter the precise words so many hearts have long struggled to find.

From the London Symphony Orchestra to the profoundly intimate percussion, Jennifer Knapp’s albums have consistently featured realized, full-sounding backdrops and intense lyrical impressions. The musical dynamics draw out the emotion and passion, especially with the compelling spiritual themes that run through her songs. In fact, the struggles and inner-conflicts addressed in her music are often expressed in the form of confessional prayers. In this way, Knapp’s songwriting joins artists like Macy Gray, Bono, Lauren Hill, and others.

As a teenager, the classically trained Knapp attended Pittsburgh State University on a music scholarship. From there, Knapp began performing throughout the Midwest selling her two independent recordings at shows. Her second album, Wishing Well, attracted the attention of Nashville label Gotee Records, who signed her the following year. With her personal songwriting and gut-rock vocal style, Knapp immediately connected with a national audience who, like herself, had known difficulty in life and was looking for genuine insight.

As an incredibly active performer, Knapp has shared the stage with many greats, including several peers during dates she did on the last Lilith Fair tour. In the 120+ shows she performed yearly from 1997-2002, Knapp impacted millions of individuals. This makes it no surprise that Pollstar Magazine included her among its Top 50 touring acts of the Winter/Spring 2001 season.

Jennifer is currently in the studio recording her highly anticipated new album with plans for a 2010 release date.
