i forgot about this blog thing on myspace. first i'd like to direct everyone to our new and developing web site www.lakeofstew.ca. olivier put this together and we're always adding "content" as we create it.
Over a few days this winter we recorded tracks for our first cd. oliver set up 4 mics thru some pre-amps loaned to us by montreal bassist Rob Fahie, into his G4. i made some soup and we all sang and played together with the intention of presenting a clear representation of our sound.
Chez moi, we play standing in a circle, facing each other singing. Olivier placed the mics in the centre of the circle and we played like we've been playing every wednesday night for the last six years.
it was the first time we were each able to hear how we sound as a whole. usually while we're playing we're listening, but your own voice is louder in your head. so to hear this recording was like hearing what the audience hears; the whole sound. and we were pleased!
Anyways...the soups were great, we gave it our all, and i gave everyone my cold (cabbage soup is high in vitamin C).
annabelle's beautiful song, The Sioux, was recorded as the calendar flipped from 2007 to 2008 and at the end of it we broke into a sloppy rendition of Auld Lang Syne and partied until dawn. The Sioux will also be on Annabelle Chvostek's solo CD Resilience which is being launched
on may 18 (my brother's birthday) also @ Sala Rossa. We'll all be there celebrating with Annabelle. She's put a lot of hard work into this recording and it's all right there. it sounds beautiful!
We're all getting ready for the big launch, playing a lot to get used to mics in a live situation.
