On Saturday, I spent the afternoon in 'the studio' - which is really my living room - recording a debut song from a brand new artist, I'm hopeful she'll be highly successful so that she can look after me in my retirement. She is, of course, my daughter Ella and this is a song she has written. Ella is six and a half years old.
Although I helped her, she came up with the melody and lyrics. I assisted with the arrangement and I played all the instruments on the recording. I also produced it .
Its a simple song about how much she loves her friends, but it made her mum cry when she came home and I expect her grandma will do the same because she's soft too.
Enjoy listening to the song and please remember she's only six. I think its a pretty good effort.

I've been writing songs since I was about seventeen and then having turned thirty seven last Sunday, let's just say it was due that I should finally publish them in one way or another. At least now, my gravestone won't read, '"Still working on that demo".
What happened was that whilst surfing (the web, not the waves) a couple of months ago, I came accross a songwriting competition. Its as http://www.songwritingcontest.co.uk/ but the deadline is in just under two hours so if its the first you've heard of it, don't get too excited. There's always next year anyway. So I decided that I should enter. I bought Cubase Essential 4 on eBay and a Line 6 Toneport KB37 Audio / MIDI interface type thing and spent some serious time recording a few songs. In the end I entered three songs, 'Like a Fool' which is the jewel in my crown, so to speak, 'The Way We Were', and 'I Told You So'. I'll let you know how I get on with those.
Anyway, having started all that, I decided that myspace was the way to go plus I've also been taking them onto various web forums where people give their opinions. Only two received so far but both mainly positive.
I've had two very productive days off work getting these songs finished and I'm feeling very positive. Pro-activity and all that.
Cheers
Nick.
