As some of you already know, Deranged will disband, and the shows that we..re supposed to play, are unfortunly cancelled. We..re terrably sorry on the behalf of the band that things turned out this way. Here you can read the official statement regarding the split-up:

"Sad news… A couple of weeks ago Rikard Wermén [drums] decided to leave the band. He’s been handling all of the band’s correspondence (as well as any other matters concerning the band) the last 15 years and told us that he basically was fed up and didn’t want to do that any longer and therefore decided to leave the band. He’s been doing a really great work and has always managed to squeeze in time to handle the band’s business. He also said numerous times that he will stay and do whatever shows that was booked but wouldn’t handle any correspondence and the likes, and even said if we managed to get a tour later this year, he would stay for that as well in case we hadn’t managed to get a new drummer. Fair enough, and we thank him eternally for that… Now, Johan Axelsson [guitar] said that he didn’t want to do the booked shows and wanted to split the band up (’coz of reasons unknown) which leaves me and Thomas Ahlgren [bass] no other choice then hereby say that we can’t play the [previously announced European festivals plus the Maryland Deathfest in the U.S.]. Therefore DERANGED are from now on split up."

Any further questions regarding this matter WILL NOT be answerd here on myspace.
We would like to say thanx to all the fans that have supported the band during the years, and we hope that the music will live on. Stay grind! / Thomas

I’m really sad and surprised that it should end up like this…. First of all I would like to thank all the fans that have supported the band during the years I would also like to thank all the bands we have played with …

In my opinion me Johan and Martin was agreed on the same thing, that it didn’t felt right to do the shows after Rikards decision to leave the band. Thomas disagreed and still want to do the shows, it left Martin and me Johan the majority as the remaining band to take the decision. I don’t understand what did change that?? When I read the official statement regarding the split-up I don’t see any agreements and me Johan seems to be the one that split up the band. I was also surprised when I heard that there was another version of the story when I talked with Thomas.. Coz of reason unknown?? Mean if Rikard quit the band, where is the future of the band anyway.

/ Johan Axelsson

REVIEW Critical Mass March 08

DERANGED – "The Redlight Murder Case"
Album (Regain, 2008, Sound Pollution)

Även "Formula for a murder" avslöjar inspiration från äldre dräparmaterial.

REVIEW Metal Team UK March 08

When you read the most excellent "Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore", something grips you almost immediately. Namely, that while much of the development of the scene took place in Blighty during the late eighties, the giants of the genre have always been from either the United States or Scandinavia. It also struck me that being essentially an old fart, albeit one that is devastatingly handsome and of unparalleled metal knowledge, my tastes in death metal have always tended to be of the more old school variety, and that I have always preferred the Scando-death side of things rather than the Transatlantic way of doing things.

Nowadays, I find it hard to find any American death metal bands that go any way to float my boat other than the established old veterans that soldier on. Sure, I'll salivate over a new Obituary or Deicide release as much as the next balding, be-paunched 80's deathster, but the problem with the newer batch of "brutal" death metal acts from across the pond is that they couldn't write an actual fucking song if they were held hostage and threatened with death.

Thank God (or Satan, Thor or any deity of preference) then for bands like Deranged. The Swedish outfit have been going since the early nineties, and show no fear of evolving past what they do best: writing gloriously catchy, intense, brutal death metal that lives up to all the best traditions of the style. Now Pete, being a thoroughly good egg, told me when he sent me this CD that almost all of the song titles here reflect films by some obscure Italian film director (well not quite but obscure Italian Giallo movies Pete) . I, gentle reader, must be true to myself and to you and say I didn't know that at all, and so I won't elaborate on it any further, than to say this collection makes a fitting soundtrack to murder.

The production is absolutely perfect for this kind of metal, allowing the guitars to both bludgeon with the bass like a heavy implement brought to smash down on a fragile skull, while also allowing the lead guitar to scythe through the air like the whistling of a blade sent to slash a throat. The drums, rapid but scarcely at a blast beat show more primitive power and create much more of an impression than any poly-rhythmic bollocks and triggered studio magic that is paraded about in the modern extreme metal scene. The vocals, of course, are hoarse, grunted (yet still charmingly decipherable) tales of violence and hate. If powerful, tense and perfectly concise killer (sic) tracks like "Formula for a Murder" don't convince you that there's plenty of erm...life in old school death metal, then there is clearly something wrong with your ears. At nine tracks in a perfectly timed thirty five minutes, Deranged also know when to leave you wanting just a little more; something which many of their bloated more "modern" minded cousins might do well to emulate. Once upon a time, most death metal albums were made like this, but now it's the rarity rather than the rule, which is a great shame. Deranged might well be dinosaurs, but they're a fucking Tyrannosaurus to my ears. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a body to dismember to the strains of "Death Walks on High Heels".

REVIEW Live4Metal March 08

I don't care what anyone fuckin' says, the always solid Deranged release some seriously intense brutal death metal of a high caliber. Usually, critics savage Deranged for being a one trick pony; if so, however, they do that trick pretty damn well and with a great deal of consistency over the years. To that end, Deranged release their seventh full-length, a barnstormer of a death metal album entitled "The Redlight Murder Case" on the ever reliable Regain Records (founded by Deranged's first vocalist Per Gyllenback), as a concept centered upon the murders of prostitutes.

Deranged is particularly good at laying down some intense riffing on top of all out blasts,

while enhancing the brutality with an insane amount of catchiness. Usually these all out blasts are sustained for an entire album, which is fine with me because Deranged are so good at it, hence the tendency of critics to pigeon hole the band and dismiss them. However, on "The Redlight Murder Case", Deranged mix it up quite a bit with plenty of tempo variation and different song structures that are still built upon all out blasts (this is Deranged, after all) as a base. Don't get me wrong, this is still all out death metal completely devoid of any trace of melody (one or two minor solos make an appearance as well as Deranged's patented "whooo" guitar lick), but the tempo variations are combined with infectious riffing and a few hooks, along with the usual, sustained deep seated growling.

Other than that, what else is there to say? "The Redlight Murder Case" is solid, brutal death metal and you either like this genre, or you don't. I, for one, will get anything that Deranged releases. Buy or die.

REVIEW Room Thirteen March 08

Swedish death metal heavyweights Deranged are back with their seventh full-length album 'The Redlight Murder Case'.

Anyone who has heard Deranged's music will know to expect a relentless, brutal and truly intense blend of death metal and the music on this album is no different. As soon as the CD starts spinning you are hit by a barrage of pounding drums that blast out throughout this nine-track CD, and the lightning fast beats become the real driving force behind every single song.

'The Redlight Murder Case' sounds more like American death metal than Scandinavian, simply put it's a lot more grinding and hard-hitting. From listening to the album you wouldn't think that the band has two new members; bassist Thomas Ahlgren and frontman Martin Schonherr, who both slip seamlessly into Deranged line-up. Like with any true death metal band, Schonherr's vocals are made up of grunts and growls that are undecipherable. 'Death Walks On High Heels' is the track that I would imagine would become the fan favourite from this album, it's punchy and less formulaic than the other eight tracks on the CD.

Deranged offer plenty of angry growls, solid guitar riffs and thunderous drumming on 'The Redlight Murder Case'. All nine tracks are straight up yet brutal pieces of death metal, this album is definitely not for the fainthearted.

Swedish death metal goremasters 'Deranged' are back with their 7th full length, 'Red Light Murder Case', which is set to be the hottest death metal album of the year.  Recently signing to Regain Records 'Deranged' began recording  in Berno Studios (The Haunted, Vomitory) expecting the album to be released in November 2007 but due to unexpected circumstances the album will be released in February this year. 'Deranged' have been playing absolutely brutal death metal since the nineties and this album is no different.  From start to finish 'Red Light Murder Case' is 9 songs of the sickest, most brutal death metal you can find.  The first track 'Watch Me When I Kill'  really sets the tone for the entire album.  Most of the time bludgeoning you into submission with its mesmerisingly fast guitars and pounding drums, slight relief comes  with Johan Axelsson's brilliant guitar solos, but the song drives straight back into an absolutely  flesh tearing riffs that could make your ears bleed all topped off with Martin Schonherr's ferocious vocals.  Riff-tastic, 'Strip Nude For Your Killer' and 'Gently She Dies' are capable of sending any live crowd into a vicious pit frenzy.

The chaos does not show any signs of diminishing towards the end of the album, however at ' The Killer Wore Black Gloves' the songs do become slightly more melodically driven but do not lose any of their brutality.

The Deranged sound is very much reminiscent of bands like 'Cannibal Corpse', but it would be completely unfair to draw any comparisons between 'Deranged' and other bands as they have a sound all their own.  'Red Light Murder Case' is an absolute stormer of an album and is capable of rivalling any top flight death metal band.  This is definitely a must buy for any self respecting death metal fan.

REVIEW Subba-Cultcha March 08

Old school death metal from the Swedish psychopaths.

'Watch me when I kill' serves its purpose perfectly as an opening track. It is furious, unsettling and carries a rather tasty surprise when in the middle of the song, the band settle into a strange, jaunty rhythm for a few bars before sailing back off into black death territory. This is death metal in the old school style of early Bolt Thrower and Canibal Corpse, but still with enough surprises to keep you interested.

Deranged have been doing this since the early nineties, and have always held true to their brand of grindcore and black metal tinged Death. This, theire seventh album, is themed largely around murder, but then, so are many death metal albums, but Deranged have produced such a compelling and enjoyable metal album that I can let them off. Anyway, if I didn't they'd be at my door with an axe by the sound of this album. Closing track 'Body Puzzle' may have one of the most unnerving titles I've heard in a long while, but it rounds of a suitably brutal album in style, and leaves you breathless and dying for a circle pit.

REVIEW Metal4life March 08

Blimey! It's album number seven for the veteran Swedish death metallers, with nary a hint of progression to sully their blackened hearts. And that will make a lot of death metal fans very happy indeed, for Deranged don't mess about with any of that pesky musical progression nonsense. No. It's 35 minutes of brutal death metal, thank you very much, no refunds, no exchanges.

It's an intense punch in the face from start to finish, from the opening, driving riffs of 'Watch Me When I Kill', all the way through to 'Body Puzzle'. To be fair, there is one surprise in the goody bag, and that's halfway through when 'The Killer Wore Black Gloves' seeps out of the speakers, with a fair dose of steoner / Down type rhythms and attitudes. Not one for the die-hards, but a cracking tune, nonetheless.

The drums blast, the riffs rock and the vocals are grunts from Hell, just the way it should be. There were a few naysayers popping up when "Obscenities In B Flat" came out, but this one should restore Deranged in the affections of many.

Those cracking song titles in full;

1. Watch Me When I Kill
2. Strip Nude For Your Killer
3. Gently Before She Dies
4. Redlight Murderess
5. So Sweet, So Dead
6. The Killer Wore Black Gloves
7. Formula For A Murder
8. Death Walks On High Heels
9. Body Puzzle

REVIEW Metal Chaos March 08

The names of Entombed, Unleashed, Dismember and Grave roll of the tongue as some of Sweden's best exponents of Death Metal, products of a scene so fruitful the genre was defined by many of their releases. One has only to think of "Left Hand Path" or "Like An Ever Flowing Stream" as proof positive of the impact these bands had upon Death Metal. One name however that is certain not to be as familiar nor many of their albums is that of Deranged, despite being around for the best part of a decade and a half and emerging from the same creative gene pool as the aforementioned Stockholm greats. "The Redlight Murder Case" is the bands seventh release and latest, but will it signal a turning point for these Death Metal stalwarts?

Parking the rather dubious title, that it has to be said doesn't do the album any favours, what have Deranged offered up in the way of a new platter of splatter? To even the most casual of listeners of Death Metal Deranged have a sound so traditional is style you could be forgiven for thinking it is 1990 all over again. This is personified by lead vocalist Martin Schonherr and his approach to the vocals on the album. These are straight out of the old school book of Death Metal vocals, gruff and guttural but totally in keeping with the vibe Deranged have tried to create. You get the distinct feeling "The Redlight Murder Case" sounds the way it does more by design than any lack of vision or originality.

Devoid of blast beats and any rhythms of hurricane like proportions, Deranged instead focus upon the more slower exact approach with tracks like "Watch Me When I Kill" having more than just a tinge of Thrash about it. The ethos of the album appears to revolve around the whole concept of tempo and pace, relying upon the songs (excluding the very poor choice of titles) rather than clever studio trickery to sell the album. There is without doubt an audience for Deranged and those old schoolers looking for a slice of Death with the sound and feel of the early 90's then look no further, and enjoy it for what it is. Good old fashioned Death Metal.
