Temporary(Bridges)
-"Temporary" is quite simple.I always think of it as a song about patience, lyrically and musically. It has been one of my favorite songs to play from the get-go.I.
Together we will run
And I wish that we were one…
With the world again
We were hangin' in the flats
Like a buddha,there we sat
And we felt the peace again
Like an evergreen
There in the forest scene
We may lose our dignity
Like a raging river
We may wind on forever
And empty into the sea
NOTHING LASTS FOREVER
NOR GOOD OR NASTY WEATHER
ONE THING TO REMEMBER
EMPTINESS IS TEMPORARY
Me?Robot?(Bridges)
-A few years ago I would spend a weekend in ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />East Tennessee every now and then.Just driivin' around enjoying the scenery.Anyway..i would always notice toward the Cherokee National Forest close to Erwin,TN, an automotive graveyard….BOOYA,right there in the middle of the beautiful forest…hundreds of automobiles….yikes!not sure if this songs translates that, but that's what I always think of.
They raised me on mechanics in a progessive industry
Built for mass consumption
Stright from the factory
They damn me if I succeed
They damn me I fail
They turn to me for answers, but my system always fails
I am a shape-shifter
I blend in with the scene
And come time for inspection,I may elevate my queen
Don't tell me that I've lost it,you know I'm the king
I sill run on the essentials like love and gasoline
I WAS RUN DOWN
I WAS WASHED UP
I WAS UP THE CREEK
I WAS OUTTA LUCK
I WAS FADED
I WAS TOSSED OUT
I WAS UP THE CREEK
I WAS OUTTA LUCK
Leaving Gailwood St.(Bridges)
-"Gailwood" was written in 2004.Me ,Ronnie and Ben actually recorded the demo version of this at an old house on Gailwood St. in Nashville. The lyrics are as confusing as the basement of that house.Though the song has become quite personal for some of us familiar with that joint,it was never intended that way.Funny how things come full circle at times.
Another night here sittin' in this chair
It was a barstool last night
We're holed up in this "café"
It's a brand new site
That's where our conversation starts
We may understand, the law of this land, but the lights…they burn my eyes
Our conversation moves to the other side
That's when we talk about your life
And we keep talkin' on,until the morning comes
ON MY WAY BACK HOME
WE SEE THE LIGHT BURN SO BRIGHT
THEN I FIND US ALL ALONE
AND WE WONDER IF WE'VE BEEN HERE
HAVE WE BEEN HERE BEFORE
Maybe a little bit,of a misunderstanding
You stared at the dash and the warning signs
You look ahead cuz you don't wanna hurt yo' self
But look at what you drag behind
Off you go and you'll say
"It's been nice to know you…I hope to see you on down the line"
But all you say seems to fall on deaf ears
Still you push on through the day
You keep pushin on,until the morning comes
ON MY WAY BACK HOME
WE SEE THE LIGHT BURN SO BRIGHT
THEN I FIND US ALL ALONE
AND WE WONDER IF WE'VE BEEN HERE
HAVE WE BEEN HERE BEFORE
If We Crosssed The River(Bridges)
-This one was origianlly titled "Lick The Witch".A friend had told me he thought his girlfriend was a witch, and she totally put some bad juju on him,he was trapped. So 'lick' refers to defeat, not, well…you know. What does that have to do with crossing rivers and deliverence?I have no idea….
Should I run?
Should I fly?
Should shout out to the sky
Avoid the lines drawn on my face
I will never again run this race
I denied my fate,and I escaped it
I'll climb to safety again
I denied my fate,and I escaped
There was nothing to lose and even less to win
I'll gain some youth
I'll let it loose
Take these shackles
And loosen my noose
I heard a drummer
I moved my feet
But could never imitate the beat
I denied my fate,and I escaped it
I'll climb to safety again
I denied my fate,and I escaped
There was nothing to lose and even less to win
IF WE CROSS THE RIVER
MAY WE BE DELIVERED
Denied fate
I escape
Denied fate
I escape
Denied fate
I escape
Denied fate
I escape
IF WE CROSS THE RIVER
MAY WE BE DELIVERED
The Echo That Whispers(Bridges)
--Sometimes those little voices can do some good….someone told me that listening to those voices is ok…just don't talk back and always filter that s**t.Is that TMI?
I was looking for a new translation
A whisper echoed from my home…"there's no time to raom"
I came home on this visitation
I was tripping on the shadows of the sun
I heard the voices say….
SHINE A LIGHT,SHINE IT BRIGHTER
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
WE CAN TAP HIM ON THE SHOULDER
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
We all look for a new understanding
We may find it anothers eyes
We all look for new understanding
We may find it in the echoes at night
SHINE A LIGHT,SHINE IT BRIGHTER
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
WE CAN TAP HIM ON THE SHOULDER
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
UNTIL HE TURNS AROUND
Cocaine Cowgirl(Bridges)
-Even if I don't mean to,I seem to always find a way to offend people.I think this one was written about a couple of old friends' loss of innocence ,and the silliness of NashVegas and the excess that surrounds some of it's inhabitants.Oh well….the keys will always light up someone's night.
We used to be content with rollin' in the hay
Those days are gone and so is the innocence anyway
Now we like the rodeos and hold tight right outta the gate
Even if we beat the clock,it my scare us straight
Now I'm a loner
And I like to have my time
It's been that since that night on I-65
I'm runnin' with a new bunch
Got my head up in the clouds
Hiding out in barrells, like a rodeo clown
THIS YEAR THERE WON'T BE SNOW FALLING ON ALABAMA
IT ONLY TURNS TO RAIN
IT KEEPS THINGS CLEAR
I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY I LEFT THAT LIFE BEHIND ME
I MUST FEEL A LITTLE FREEDOM HERE
In my new world I keep Disney on my mind
Florida to Cali, you know the sun alway
