October 12, 2009 - Monday
I just heard that original Blue Cheer bassist and lead vocalist Dickie Peterson passed away in Germany.

I saw Blue Cheer several times in my youth during the 60s... no doubt my incredibly bad hearing and raging tinnitus has something to do with that. I remember 3 tiny guys with the longest hair I'd ever seen standing in front of a wall of Marshall amps and, as the legend goes, "They hit the first note and the air turned into cottage cheese!" These guys and their records were absolutely crucial to me.

Over the years I've had a chance to meet Dickie a few times and he was as down to earth and cool as you can get. A genuinely sweet, very humble and funny cat. Probably one of the most underrated and solid bass players ever too.

In all my years in rock n roll and all the things I've seen and done one of the very highest hi-lites was getting asked by Rhino Records to pick the tracks and write the liner notes for the very first, vinyl Best Of Blue Cheer compilation, Louder Than God. Shortly after it came out Dickie, who was living in Hollywood at the time, called me to thank me for what I had written and invite me over to hear a rehearsal of the new BC lineup that he was putting together at that time. Needless to say... they sounded fucking great.

The last time I saw Dickie I was in Germany playing a show in Koln and he came to my soundcheck to hang out and chat. He looked great and was excited about a new reunion tour he was getting ready for... bringing the Blue Cheer sound to a new generation.

I just want to say a deep, deep thanks to Dickie and all the guys of Blue Cheer. Without your music I would not be the rock n roll degenerate that I am today... I salute you!

"Shinmachi Wave" - Hilo Trash Art Show '09 - This is my sculpture which was selected to be part of this years exibit. It is made of broken Japanese pottery, beach glass and driftwood which was all found along Hilo beaches . The pottery... and glass are soldered together, ala stained glass, and epoxyed into the driftwood. The show opening last night was packed even though it was raining cats & dogs and features artwork made of recycled and/or found materials. There is some very cool, crazy and creative stuff. If you're in Hilo, please swing past the Hawaii Cultural Center and check out this exibit!

September 22, 2009 - Tuesday
I just caught a cool show at a local watering hole here in Hilo called Shooters on 9-20-09. Two bands were from the neighboring Puna/Pahoa area - Pissfitt and Old Habits Die Hard. And a band called False Crack came over from the Island of Oahu to play also. This show was to celebrate the guitarist from OHDH, Lundy's birthday so there was much partying, rude onstage comments and general hijinks going on. The co-ed band (2 girls, 2 guys) Pissfitt had a fast classic punk rock sound with some interesting reggae and ska moments. They've got some really good songs and a ton of energy and I plan to see them again soon. False Crack were pretty brutal hardcore and were masters of getting the crowd into it. The righteous slam pits start right about now. Next up was the birthday boy and everyone seemed to be lubricated and having a great time. It was total mayhem from here on out. A couple other bands were also set to play but I had to take off.... For a Sunday early evening show that started at 6 and only went to 10, this seemed to have drawn about 150 (easily 200 if you count the folks hanging about the parking lot) and I'd say that's a pretty solid draw for a small city on one of the outer islands of Hawaii! So... punk rock is alive and well over here. Check My Photos for some pix!

Here are a trio of links on me...

Since I'm too lazy to type out a proper bio here's a pretty damn good one that is actually surprisingly accurate. It stops at about 1999 (Which is probably when it was done) so you'll just have to use your imagination for what I've been doing the last 10 years:

Here's a collection of reviews of the last few albums by everyones fave Australian rock n roll maniacs at the i94 Bar & Grill. Check their site out, it's great:

Last, I had to include this little recent review just because I got such a kick getting a write up in Rolling Stone... and David Fricke is probably my fave writer in the mainstream press:

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE… The Completely Incomplete Jeff Dahl List Of A Few Of My Favorite Things!
I tried to keep it to one entry per artist, per category and, for the most part, I tried not to list people from who had played with me or in my band or this list would have gone on for about 10x as long. July 30, 2009 - Thursday
If you're wondering where I disappeared to, well, it all happened very fast. Out of the blue I got a generous offer on my house in Arizona so I sold, packed everything up and moved back to Hawaii. (Which is where I am orig from and where I grew up) I love Arizona and I love all of my friends out there but my wife and I wanted to be closer to family and the ocean so.... I'm alive and well and doing just fine. I live in a small town on one of Hawaii's outer islands. From my front door I can see the beach and from the back window I can see the volcanos.

Anyway, when I made the move I was without a computer for a few months and I've just gotten around to setting up a new myspace site. So here I am!

The last album, Back to Monkey City is out on Steel Cage Records... it even got a good review in Rolling Stone... which is very strange but nice.

Yes, I do have a new studio set up out here and I'll begin recording a new album very shortly. Stay tuned!
