I just got back from seeing THIS IS IT at Universal City Walk (with my Mother).

PHENOMENAL ~ BEYOND BELIEF ~ IMMORTAL ~ HEARTBREAKING

What they did with "THRILLER" was just spectacular; his dancing at the end of "BILLIE JEAN" absolutely took my breath away; I cried when he sang 'HUMAN NATURE'.

The quote I take away from this movie that he said is: 'They WHO?' ~ When you see the film you'll KNOW WHY.

After viewing the film I NOW truly believe that yes, Michael, could have done all 50 shows. He was BETTER than all his backup dancers combined throughout the ENTIRE 2 hour movie.

6/29/09: I was just given this photo of Michael and Sammy together (from the person I am working with on the Sammy project) at the last tribute given to Sammy; Michael was right there by his side.  Also pictured is Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Mike Tyson, etc.

6/25/09 How ironic is this:

Three days ago I was hired and given materials do to some writing for a Sammy Davis Jr. project
(can’t say who hired me or what the project is…yet).

Today I was focusing on it completely without the television on and got a call from a friend telling me that Michael Jackson had just died 15 minutes ago.

I turned on MSNBC and a guy named Jerry Kramer who directed "Thriller" stated that “Michael idolized Sammy Davis Jr.; he took Sammy’s 'flash' and used it himself.”

Then, a Professor Dyson came on and stated that “like Sammy Davis Jr., who was the Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived, Michael was the Greatest Entertainer of His Generation.”  (I know from the person who hired me for the project that Frank Sinatra is the one that called Sammy that first).

Weird and spooky that I'm doing this project for the late Sammy Davis Jr. today, the day Michael Jackson died...

***PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PLACE A COMMENT BELOW***

An era in heavy metal history came to a screeching halt on Friday March 21st, 2008 in Hollywood. :-(

I just happened to be walking into the Rainbow for an early dinner biz meeting that day when I was immediately struck by Mike’s distraught demeanor.  We lost a gentle soul with the death of our beloved Jerry Mangalos (formerly of Arista Records prior to his work at The Rainbow).  He was like a gentle butterfly floating effortlessly up and down the aisles making sure everyone was having the best time.

I have spent more time at the Bow than any other spot on the planet for decades besides my own house, so Jerry became a constant in my life.  The Bow and Jerry are one in the same for me and I always looked forward to being greeted by that smiling face and crazy hair.  He would often tell me, "Yes, Denise, he’s here!" before I could even ask if my pal Lemmy was there yet to hang out with.

Jerry made me feel sooo special ~ he embodied the word "Love".  He often stopped to sit with me and my friends, kiss me on the cheek, he even handled my birthday party there just a few months ago. I hope he knew how special he was.

The Rainbow, while still packed as usual the day we lost Jerry, it was at the same time incredibly empty.  One of my friends who knew Jerry very well summed it up perfectly: "My God, he was the pulse of that place."

Your heart, Jerry, will always be beating through us at the Bow for you.  His soul will remain there forever and I will never forget his gentle kindness.

P.S. I will be paying tribute to him on my TV show; I just hope I can keep my composure as I read the words on the air.

UPDATE:

03/27/08: The Rainbow was FULL OF LOVE FOR JERRY yesterday... I was so honored to be included in the celebration of our beloved friend. His brother Bobby is SO MUCH like him; it was very comforting to be in his presence.

I thank you all for the wonderful time. And thanx to the following for showing up too:

Lemmy Kilmister

Paul Inder (Lemmy’s son)

Gretchen Bonaduce

Slim Jim Phantom

Krigger

Chas West

Vicky (Carlos Cavazo’s woman)

Felicity

Special thanx to Michael Weber at The Rainbow

along with the 100’s and 100’s of metal people that came to honor the Late Great JERRY MANGALOS...

May 2008 ~ UPDATE:  Mr. Michael Aston (Jay's evil twin) tried to post a ridiculous blog comment here about the comments made by the REAL GLJ's fans.  I refuse to display his stupidity, so instead I handed it over to Lani (most of you GLJ people know who she is) and to JAY.  If you wish to view what Michael attempted to stick on this blog you can visit:

How the dude found me I'll never know...He must have a lot of downtime on his hands...Oh and, by the way, nice touch Michael, serving papers to poor Pete ON STAGE during the REAL Gene Loves Jezebel show at the Viper Room by one of your goons...too chicken to give them to Jay or James I guess.

******************************

The Original GENE LOVES JEZEBEL lineup is, thank goodness, back in business here in the U.S. as was evident at their much-anticipated premiere show in Hollywood last night kicking off their short stint here on the West Coast.  From the first electrifying note of  "Twenty Killer Hurts" to their mega hit "Desire" and everything in between ("Jealous", "Josephina", "Gorgeous" and many more), the original band was nothing short of spectacular.

Astonishing front man, singer, songwriter and founder JAY ASTON mesmerized his loyal fans throughout the entire show.  Rounding out the original line up were James Stevenson and Peter Rizzo along with the band's good friend Robert Adams (filling in for drummer Chris Bell who is temporarily out for a happy personal occasion).

Famous for his flamboyant and enchanting moves on stage, deliciously appealing voice nothing short of musical genius, and hilarious quick-witted banter sprinkled in between songs, Aston gave his audience more than they expected and had them in the palm of his hand the entire time.  The Welsh singer's good looks complete with his infamous red locks along with his undeniable sheer charismatic stage presence didn't hurt either.

Fast becoming a well-known fact is that for the past decade or so there has been another 'pseudo' band touring under the rock group's famous namesake that merely consists of one original GLJ member who contributed little to what made the band famous using hired musicians to perform the songs written and performed by the original Jay Aston-led line up.  It now is incredibly evident where the talent truly lies in the internationally renowned band; in Jay Aston's real version of Gene Loves Jezebel.

In the world of big musical acts made famous in the 1980's and 90's still currently touring who simply go through the motions on stage, the original line up of Gene Loves Jezebel set themselves apart.  They are just as animated and dazzling as they were playing huge venues decades ago.  Their arena caliber performance in Hollywood last night proved that the original line up of Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel needs to be back in front of thousands yet again.

Jay Aston's original Gene Loves Jezebel line up will be making one more Southern California appearance Sunday 11/25 at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.  Visit myspace.com/therealglj, myspace.com/jpaston and www.GeneLovesJezebel.co.uk for more information.
