An era in heavy metal history came to a screeching halt on Friday March 21st, 2008 in Hollywood. :-(
I just happened to be walking into the Rainbow for an early dinner biz meeting that day when I was immediately struck by Mike’s distraught demeanor. We lost a gentle soul with the death of our beloved Jerry Mangalos (formerly of Arista Records prior to his work at The Rainbow). He was like a gentle butterfly floating effortlessly up and down the aisles making sure everyone was having the best time.

I have spent more time at the Bow than any other spot on the planet for decades besides my own house, so Jerry became a constant in my life. The Bow and Jerry are one in the same for me and I always looked forward to being greeted by that smiling face and crazy hair. He would often tell me, "Yes, Denise, he’s here!" before I could even ask if my pal Lemmy was there yet to hang out with.
Jerry made me feel sooo special ~ he embodied the word "Love". He often stopped to sit with me and my friends, kiss me on the cheek, he even handled my birthday party there just a few months ago. I hope he knew how special he was.
The Rainbow, while still packed as usual the day we lost Jerry, it was at the same time incredibly empty. One of my friends who knew Jerry very well summed it up perfectly: "My God, he was the pulse of that place."
Your heart, Jerry, will always be beating through us at the Bow for you. His soul will remain there forever and I will never forget his gentle kindness.

P.S. I will be paying tribute to him on my TV show; I just hope I can keep my composure as I read the words on the air.
UPDATE:
03/27/08: The Rainbow was FULL OF LOVE FOR JERRY yesterday... I was so honored to be included in the celebration of our beloved friend. His brother Bobby is SO MUCH like him; it was very comforting to be in his presence.
