Just got these pups in the mail.  They look FANTASTIC.  I've got copies for $12.  Also got the Mort Aux Vaches CDs FINALLY if you're after one.  Write me here for mailorder.  these CDs should be in distros and shops in a few weeks.

Dove Yellow Swans "Live During War Crimes 3" CD

We were always a working band.  Always a live band.  The other Live During War Crimes discs were all recorded by the band, edited by the band and intended to be presented as refined "works."  This third, and final document breaks from that framework in that the sets are presented in their entirety and the music was recorded by other people. At some point mid-road dog mode, I lost the desire to record our shows at all, I think our MD recorder broke and I was tired of all the work all that documentation lead to. I just gave it up.  We skipped the editing on this one too.  Just let the sets be what they were.

We were lucky enough that some of our fans and supporters didn't give up and managed to record some of our best shows.  The recording of our final Chicago show was what pushed me to want this document to exist.  That show was YS at it's best.  It was our last show in the US.  There were tons of friends out.  We played well..  AND there happened to be this dude, Mike Carney there with a film crew and audio recording gear.  We got the recording a few months after the show that included room mics and board recordings.  This set really captures YS at it's most blurred and alien.  The guitars are shimmering, the sound is densely textured with unknown chatter and clamor.  There are no rough edges, but there is no stasis.

The second track was recorded at the PDX Pop Now festival by John Wiese.  This fest is a free, all-ages festival that happens every summer in Portland.  The lineup of the festival is picked democratically.  YS went on between hip-hop collective, Sandpeople, and Inidie-country artists, Blitzen Trapper.  HUH?  We decided that we should use the opportunity of playing to a big room full of teens to really just go for it.  The set was short, blazing and confused a hell of a lot of people.  It was also a hell of a lot of fun for us.  Well...  It was for me..  Gabe played so aggressively that he tore off one of his fingernails mid set and bled everywhere.  He just kept at it.  Didn't stop for a second.  He's always been a sport.

Track three was a live soundtrack we did to a film by Avalon Kalin.  This show was a night of musicians and filmmakers collaborating with the intent of exploring local landmarks.  Avalon, Gabriel and myself decided that this statue of Joan Of Arc would be an excellent subject. This track was recorded by Marc Fischer and was played while Avalon lay on his back, shining lights on his film where he had circled a gold Joan who was galloping, reflecting light back into the camera.

The last track was from the last show of our last full US tour.  Iowa City.  Picador.  We were tour raw.  Had been rolling with Mouthus for weeks and ditched them in NYC.  Our plan was to  leave town after the show and drive straight to Boise. We were at that point in the grind where you just don't care about much.  It's all about the music and your personal wellbeing has been shot to hell for it.  After this show a friend came up and gave me a hug.  He said that the set felt intensely emotional and honest.  That's about the highest compliment I've received.  All I've ever wanted to do with this thing is to participate in an experience that is honest and real.  He got it that night.  That's all I needed.  We packed up and hit the road.

feel a little bad posting this since it's so expensive, but some may want to pick this up:

EN/OF 039 features an LP from Yellow Swans, one of their last releases since they broke up last year. This album collects twobeautiful long pieces that show them at their height of their power. A great posthumous release. It comes with one from set of three b/w photographs by David Lieske, printed on baryta-paper, which is called Für Gretel / Pferde Sind die Überlebenden der Helden.the edition is limited to 100 copies and costs 139 euros from www.bottrop-boy.com

for folks in the US, I have two copies for sale, and Gabe may have a copy or two for sale. The converted price of the LP, not including shipping is $205 each, but you can buy one from me for $175 ppd.. please drop a line if you're interested.

I should add that the Johh Wiese/Yellow Swans CD is out and is available through helicopter.  As is the Mort Aux Vaches CD, which is available through Staalplaat.

It looks like Live During War Crimes 3, as well as the final studio album, "Going Places" should be out either late this year or early next.  all the artwork/mastering/etc is done for both of those and I'll post when they are available..

OK.  so..  final details for all the last YS releases are slowly coming together..

Soooo..  available either now or REALLY SOON are:

Yellow Swans "Mort Aux Vaches" CD on Staalplaat

we didn't get very many copies of this so none for mailorder..  you can order it here:

Yellow Swans And John Wiese "Portable Dunes" CD on Helicopter

should be out soon!  check john-wiese.com

David Lieske/Yellow Swans LP on en/of

should be out soon as well, but is strictly limited to 100 copies and is an "art edition" so..  it's expensive.  Two side-long epics from us..  a photo print from David..  we may end up with some overrun LPs..  no idea if we'll have any of these for sale, but the material is top notch..

STUFF IN THE FUTURE:

DOVE YELLOW SWANS "Live During War Crimes 3" CD on Release the Bats

should be out before 2010..  four unedited tracks from the last few years..  all recorded by various folks out in the world.  it's going to be unique if solely for the fact that it's pretty much live takes and all recorded using room mics..  still, the recording quality is very high and the performaces are some of our favorites.  there are tracks from our PDX Pop Now set (July 2007), our final US show in Chicago (june 2008), a live soundtrack to a film by avalon kalin (from feb 2008) and a particularly good set from the Picador in Iowa City, which was the last show on our october 2007 US tour...  I probably don't need to say that this CD is LONG..  it's almost 80 minutes..  Should appeal to people who are into LOUD and DENSE.

YELLOW SWANS "GOING PLACES" CD/LP on Type

yeah!  this is the biggie.  final studio album here..  six tracks..  it's on Type and is somewhat Type appropriate..  more ambient, more rhythmic, more 3-d, deeper textures.  I think this is the best record we've ever made.  should drop in Feb or March of 2010..  announcement and podcast hacked togeter by me here:  http://typerecords.com/typecasts/7  good tunes and a pic of my drink of choice..

YELLOW SWANS/OAKEATER Split LP on Black Horizons

don't know what's up with it, but I think it's should happen this year..

then we're actually going to be on two comps coming up:

a benefit double cassette for Joe Raglani since dude had a ton of gear stolen from him after the NFF this year..  The track is an outtake from the "going places" session that is real good and exclusive to this tape comp

and we're going to be in the Y volume of the zephabet series...

I think that does it..

Gabe's got a new solo CDR of his new project Sade Sade..

I've been working on a solo record for Root strata and occasionally putting out really limited tape releases to sell at shows..

thanks guys..

Just wanted to drop on here that the rumors and random blog posts about YS breaking up are true.

we are completing all of our previous comittments, including all of the shows on our calender here..  so..  those are all on...

there’s been no drama in the band or anything weird..  just time for two dudes to move on..

we are working on a few last releases so...  hopefully there will at least be a studio album released in 2009, and there are a few other comittments that we will be completing after the band is over..

we owe thanks to a hell of a lot of people and we’re appreciative of all folks have done for us over the years..
