Introducing...ABLE BAKER FOX

Able Baker Fox is a new project featuring members of Small Brown Bike, The Casket Lottery, and Coalesce.

Here's how it works:

Ben Reed (Small Brown Bike, The Great Sea Serpents) - Vocals, Bass

Right now we're finishing up our 11-song CD/LP "Voices" with Ed Rose to be released on Second Nature Recordings. We're not sure exactly when that will be, but keep in touch and you'll find out. Junior and I will be heading out on tour with Coalesce this next week.  Come out and say hi!  Lots of news on the Coalesce front, including new 7" and re-issues being released.  Check www.crashandbang.com for all of that.

I've also started a new band with some awesome out of town friends.  Mike, Ben, and Jeff from Small Brown Bike and I have formed a band, and recorded a rock and roll record.  the band is called ABLE BAKER FOX, and you can find out more about it at www.ablebakerfox.com  or www.myspace.com/ablebakerfox .  

My other band Jackie Carol (www.myspace.com/jackiecarol) has a cd being released at the end of August.

i guess there is some confusion.  we are not playing any shows "this" winter.  we had some shows booked in january of 2006.  that was the winter of 2006 shows we played. sorry about that.

whats going on?  well junior got married this year and is expecting a child in january/february.  he is also about to open up a music school/shop in lee's summit, mo.  stacy is still stuck with manual labor and video games.  i, nathan ellis, am currently waiting for the JACKIE CAROL cd to come back from press, and working 60 hours a week.  i'm also working through the internet with some faraway friends on a new band that will make an introduction in the next month or two.

other than that we have no news.  perhaps some Casket Lottery shows in 2007?  I don't know.  we'll just have to wait and see.

we had a great weekend full of fun shows and good people.  thanks to everyone in ames, chicago, west bend, and milwaukee for the good times and good vibes.  big thanks to la salle for coming out to the shows and playing such damned good songs.  i've got to tell you after the two show day + the drive home that night, i'm still a little bit tired.  hopefully i remember to comment on everything i mean to say.

one thing i definitly want to mention is that this in no way should be thought of as the "last" casket lottery trip.  it might be, but it might not be.  we are no good with plans and never have been.  i can say personally that i had such a good time that i hope to do it again in the fall.  we'll see.  we've all got so much going on here at home that its impossible for us to think that far in advance.  it bummed me out a bit to see people reffering to this as the last trip, or a reunion trip.  we never played a "final" show or even said we wouldn't play together again.  we just got busy and needed a break.  none of us knew that it would be almost 2 years.

the picture disc version of the "smoke and mirrors "ep that we pressed for the trip, of course, didn't make it to my house in time.  it was on my porch  when i got home from the tour.  fitting.  Speak Music Media pressed 500 of them and they will be sold at various places online soon.  i know that www.bluecollardistro.com will have some pretty soon (as well as left over tee shirts from this trip), and other information on the release can be found at www.myspace.com/speakmusicmedia 

in other music news junior will be leaving at the end of this month to do a lot of touring with appleseed cast, so go say hi.  the jackie carol record that i've been working on for almost a year finally got wrapped up last week.  some rough mixes are over at our myspace page.   www.myspace.com/jackiecarol

the CASKET LOTTERY is booking some shows for this coming february. not many, but at least one kansas city/lawrence area show, as well as a weekend of shows with LA SALLE in iowa, chicago, and probably milwaukee. the dates aren't solid yet, but i'll post them here soon. at these shows we will be selling the "smoke and mirrors" ep on a limited edition screen printed 12" vinyl format put out by our friends at speak music media. it will be fantastic.
in other news i've been busy recording a lot of music under the name JACKIE CAROL (www.myspace.com/jackiecarol) and the record should be finished by the end of the year. a springtime release is expected. junior has also been in the studio a ton lately with APPLESEED CAST and that record should be out in april of 2006. stacy has been laying hardwood floors and hating every minute of it. we are all excited to play some songs together again and look forward to hanging out with a bunch of friends.
