Current mood:  adventurous
Category: Travel and Places
So, the parental's and I set out last Friday at 4 in the morning for the Crystal Valley River area in Marble, CO. After a drive which felt like something close to forever but was really about 13 hours, we made it. Dude, this place we stayed in was absolutely amazing.
It's a cabin that is owned by a friend of my dad's, but really it's more like a big house. You can hear a roaring waterfall from the back porch of this place, which is totally soothing. We spent Friday night getting settled in and sleeping like logs, and the next day we awoke to homemade blueberry pancakes.
Later that afternoon, all of us took a ride on a Uni-Maug up to an area where we began a hike up to a marble mine. Yes, I hiked...no I did not fall down.
The next day, after homemade june-berry cobbler, we took the Uni-Maug about two hours up the mountain to a place called Lead king Basin where my dad's friend keeps some of his mules. We attached two mules to the Uni-Maug and slowly drove with them back down the mountain- about a 3 hour trip back.
We got caught in a rainstorm on the way home and we all got soaked but it was awesome.
The next day was the 5th annual Challenge Aspen Golf Classic concert, where I was scheduled to open for Vince Gill and Amy Grant.
My drummer Evan had flown in to play guitar and sing backup for the show. We got there and chilled with Vince and Amy in the greenroom before the show. They were so nice and it was really cool to just sit and chatter about music as well as other things like m fake eyeball.
My set went well...we got to do two songs. Oh, but Amy and Vince's sets were incredible! They're absolutely amazing singers, and oh my God Vince can play the mandolin like nobody else!
The event probably raised about $500,000 for Challenge Aspen, and I thought it was really cool that people recognized what a great organization it is and all came out.
On Wednesday, I got to do a TV interview for TV Aspen Channel 19. It will be running all week.
We drove home Friday and I was sad to leave Colorado but I know I'll be back especially when the ski season begins!

So it's obvious I didn't kick off during the earthquake since I'm writing this now.

I was sitting up on some bleachers at a park with my friend when it happened. I was worried they were going to collapse underneath us, but thankfully they didn't.

Usually during earthquakes I'm sleeping and they wake me up so I'm freaked out all the way through, but this time, it was kind of cool to just sit there and feel it happen without getting too scared.

I hope everyone who experienced it along with me is okay, and that there was no dammage to their propperty or anything.

Hey Guys:

You may have noticed from my list of shows that I'll be performing August 4th at the 5th Annual Vince Gill and Amy Grant Golf Classic in Aspen, Colorado.

Let me say that I am extremely honored to have been asked to open the show, and I am very excited to be able to perform with these Grammy-winning, and majorly awesome artists.

Some friends of my dad have been kind enough to let us stay at their cabbin...and they've got mules biotch!!!

We leave August 1st...any advice on how to pack a suitcase 'cause I'm pretty clueless.

Current mood:  okay

I know it's been a while since I've written in here, and I appologize.

But don't worry, I haven't been sitting on my ass doing nothing.

The band and I recently went bak in the studio (Proving Ground Studio in Simi Valley) to record my latest and possibly greatest song, "I Have A Ghost."

Oh, and it is amazing!!!

To help get rid of the stresses that life brings, I've been taking kundalini yoga. I love it because it relaxes me yet rejuvinates me all at once. I start my first class at Long Beach City in June for the Record Producer certificate program...ProTools 101 biotch!!!

And that is what's going on currently in Jessicaland.

Today, my dad and I went to the California Science Center to check out the Body Worlds 3 exhibit. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's a traveling exhibit designed to educate people on the inner workings of the human body with the use of human specimens preserved through a process called plastination.

I touched the hand of one specimen and the foot of another...they felt like paper machet.

If you're looking for something to do in L.A., go check this out....it runs through September.

So, the new tune (Empty House) I said I’d post as soon as I could needs to have the bass track re-recorded...so that’s why it’s not up yet.

The band and I might go in to the studio in May to record another tune, "I Have A Ghost", but it depends on everybody’s schedule. It seems like a bunch of people I know will be visiting California within the next couple months...Curt and Spencer (ski instructors and friends) from Aspen, Morgan from Chicago (might be moving here actually), Brittney (a friend I’ve known since fifth grade) from New York...so good times over here.

I’m watching a documentary on "straight-edge" people...interesting stuff.

Cheers, J

Tomorrow, the tune that for some reason everyone digs, "Empty House", is gonna get recorded! We’re doing it at my musician buddy Michelle Mangione’s studio, and she’s got a harmonium (wikipedia it if you don’t know what that is), which I will be messing with for this. So, unless there’s a crisis or something the tune should be up by the end of this week...so keep your eyeballs peeled.

Cheers,

Jes

Yeah, there’s nothing on. I am really in the mood for a forensic-type show...which is pretty much all I watch, but nothing like that is on. It’s all "Dogtown" and "Rock f Love" (I am sooooooo over reality TV), so that sucks. Maybe, I’ll read...I’m reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. Anyone ever read it? Get grossed out by "Guts?"

Last night, the 2008 Orange County Music Awards were held at The Grove of Anaheim. My band and family and I all showed up, and I ended up winning the award for "Best Female Performer."

I was also nominated for "Best Acoustic Female", and "Best Song", but some other lucky duckies took those.

The band and I did a pretty rockin performance of "City Streets", after which we got interviewed for warningtv.tv, but we don’t know when that will air online.

So it was quite a lovely evening full of bunches of fun.
