Wound Featured for Special Fashion Event at the D.I.A.
Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 Rivera Court
Reception: 7:30pm Detroit Institute of Arts
Fashion Show: 8:00pm

Collection Philosophy and Show Theme: The Poet Warrior Runway

The psychedelic production of the Poet Warrior Runway will take you on a
transcendent journey. Our collections honor the artistry of the Native American and
pay homage to the spirit of creation. The Poet Warrior runway receives inspiration from
Native American graphic art and their reverence for the natural world, the mysteries of
sacred geometry, and a return to resourcefulness.

The Spring 2010 Collection will feature altered seams, rhythmic lines, broken
silhouettes and tattered edges that reference a dusty plain littered with brilliant
poppies. All clothing from this series has been created from "deadstock", the remnant
of fabric forgotten.

The runways were super great!!!  2 back to back...the boys looked
great...hair and make-up were top-notch.  Luckily there were plenty of
photogs on hand (Thanks Christos and MacCool) and I've managed to swipe many photos off the web via
the links at the Detroit By Design blog and through FB and the like.

There
are a few things I would have done differently, but all and all they
were the easiest runways to date.  I have a few ideas for the next time
around...Many thanks to the styling team from Heidi Bashar led by old
friend Vincent Sherk, Levon and Amanda for their POV, Rich Rice of
Detroit By Design, Emily and Fatoula of Femilia, Davin for videography,
Thomas, Chad, Jeffrey, Julian and Vincent, Marcy and Irene from Flip
and the lovely staff of Cliff Bells.

WOUND MENSWEAR Spring 09

Inspired by the flavors of curry and tamarind while backed by the pulsing imagery of glam rock, the award-winning WOUND Menswear's latest collection is simmering with texture and pattern.  Proportions get shrunk and lean on a diet of bold color and exploratory distortions.  This glitter dandy is whistling by the roadside, kicking up his feet and charming the girls and boys.  Futuristic impulses are kept restrained by an Indian romanticism.  This collection marks a break with the past as the first solo edition by noted designer Sarah Lapinski.  WOUND is designed for the iconoclast, the dreamer, the wounded warrior.

That could be the name of my band or the soundtrack to the last month...basically it's what I did every spare second of September.
Please check out my Ecco Domani album at WOUND's Myspace! It's my first major act of fashion since going solo. I patterned, fit, cut and sewed the entire dealie. It's my submission for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation design competition. Shot by the lovely and talented Nicola Kuperus and modeled by the endearing and devastating Marc Fellis, drummer for The Go. Sarah Lurtz pitched in with styling aptitude. Out of 17 separates and 1 one piece, I counted 26 outfits. It's like eating Chana Masala and listening to T. Rex. Do you love it...or only like it?!?

End of an era.  Check out Nylon Guys.  We couldn't find it the first few tries, the picture they took was so nazz.  That was not WOUND approved!  Anyways page 54 ya'll.  Now Slurtz can go out with a bang not a whimper.  I'll be carrying the torch with Zachary Wheedon of Lee Marvin Computer Arm fame.  I need someone to lean on. Sniff, sniff.  Also, if you are really bored, check out Strut Mag we're listed in their directory of local fashion resources.  Menswear in the ladies monthly.  Shop for your man, ladies!

We are very honored to be featured in this months issue, with a full page photo spread of the crew and set up to accompany. Local Writer Rebecca Mazzai followed the Woundies around for a day while we were planning our LAUNCH event. It was such a long day we all broke for siesta. She was a real trooper.

Smooches to JoshSpear.com for breaking the story.

Read all about it HERE.

We have worked tirelessly to get to this point. I think it has been worth it. Tried things we didn't think possible. Hell, we opened a GD factory to get this line produced, so get out of the way. Will stop at nothing. Feeling stronger, sun is coming out, needles on the record. Much read and loved blogger Josh Spear caught word of the factory. Read more here. MetroMode wrote a revealing article. Came out on a day we thought we might not be able to push the rock up the hill any longer. It's tough sometimes. Hugs are nice. Thanks guys!
