Reviews:

“If Martin Hannett had lived to see 2009, I’m sure he’d have loved to produce an album like Robo_Ghost. As it happens, Keser have done a pretty good job without him. The dub-eyed urban soundscapes that Hannett unleashed with Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures are translated in the modern vernacular…It's a collection so image-laden that it dares you to write a dystopian movie screenplay, just so it can provide the soundtrack."
4/5, The Skinny

“…A subtle album that could easily rival many of the top mainstream electro acts everyone talks about these days. The way Keser have tackled the crossover of the instrumentation ensures that there will be something that everyone can appreciate here, no matter if it’s musical enjoyment or simply appreciation of creativity."
83%, Altsounds

“Wide, mournful guitar passages sweep out from the speakers and seep through your gut. Haunting one and two-note keyboard riffs hammer the heartstrings. At times, this can make them sound like Death In Vegas on mogadon…at others the twin spirits of Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin are called to mind. All are marshalled together into one masterfully dark sonic odyssey with venom, charge and sweep all in equal measure.”

"There are three words which it will probably become a legal requirement to use in all reviews of this band: epic, soundscape, cinematic. There. Done. Another one, if we’re talking about the live Keser experience, is loud: the noise coming from these two most unassuming of chaps defies the laws of physics, seeming to sound bigger than the room itself could possibly contain. Compared with the ambient sounds of the record they’re launching tonight, this is heavier, with more thunderous beats and guitar that reverberates through your very core.

With no vocals and little in the way of a leading melody to distract you, it’s the tiny, nuanced variations that mean a lot. Whether it’s the odd syncopated beat or a key change in just one layer of the rich overall sound, these are the progressions that carry you along on this slow-burning, but ultimately very rewarding journey. The most richly layered are the best of the tracks, combining droning guitars, a stuttering electronic beat and rippling melody combining to tell a gripping musical tale."

Bonjour,

That's us back from Canada. In a word: Awesome! Great bands, great people, great place, great times.

We'd like to say a big thank you to the organisers at Sled Island, especially Zak and Shawn, for having us play. We hope to be back in Calgary again soon!

Cheers also to everyone's support at the gig, it was a memorable night. Thanks to the folks from Heat Ray for lending us the amps! They were tremendous, I recommend you scope them out, along with Library Voices and York Redoubt who were also on the bill that night.

There's some photos of the trip now up on our myspace.

Hey there,

We'd like to say thanks to everyone who came along to see us at Go North and RockNess, we had two tremendous shows and a great time all weekend.

Thanks also for your overwhelming response at the time and messages of support since, we appreciate it and are really glad you enjoyed the sets! We hope you had a great weekend overall.

We owe a lot though to everyone who helped us out, so big thanks to Derek, Dan, Martin, Gruff, Lindsay, Erik, Paul, Asa, Dean, Louise, Becky, Ryan, Olaf...the list is endless! And also to Steven and Shaun @ Go North for having us.

We've put a couple of photos up here on our myspace, there should be a few more added soon.

And for the record, it wasn't us who caused that monitor to go on fire during our set on the Thursday! But maybe we'll take the credit seeing as it looked all rock n roll n such! They can send the bill to Guy Incognito.

Cheers,

Kev and Gav (and Guy)

S’happenin’ guys,

Here’s an update on how our summer is shaping up so far, we’re looking ahead to it with wondrous anticipation!

The last time I saw Engine7 was at a Tronic night a while ago, I remember watching from the back and being drawn in until I was right at the front, mesmerised by the sounds produced by a guitar played with a wine bottle! Great songs, I highly recommend them. I think Gav was playing as 30K that night too, it was some lineup.

Inverness, now with added Rock-edness

- Thursday 11th June (Go North)

We’ll be playing a Go North showcase on the Thursday of this RockNess Festival weekend extravaganza. Also on the bill are Tone from Denmark and Alex Tronic.

I’ll be Keser-ising some of Alex Tronic’s tunes on the guitar, and for the rest of their set I’ll have to ‘slam dunk the funk’! Åsa and Erik Tricity will also be playing in the Alex Tronic band.

O Canada!

- Friday 26th June (Sled Island Festival)

Did you know that Scots are the third-largest ethnic group in Canada and among the first to settle there? It’s a well known fact. (You have to imagine that being said by Andy in Gregory’s Girl).

Following in the footsteps (or sea trails/contrails) of our Scotch explorers, we’ll be making the journey West to Canada to perform at The Sled Island Festival. It’s an annual independent multi-venue music and arts festival held in Calgary, Alberta hosting over 200 bands as well as comedy, film and art shows.

Curated by Colin Newman from Wire, the bands on the bill for the festival this year include The Breeders, Health, Liars, Women, Anvil, Andrew WK and Holy F*ck among others.

We’ll be playing at The Underground on the Friday night (26th June.)

That’s it for now! Come and say hi if you’re attending any of these shows. I’ll have to finish on a customary Simpsons quote:

Wiggum: Put out an APB on a Uosdwis R. Dewoh. Uh, better start with Greektown.
Friday: That's "Homer J. Simpson", Chief. You're reading it upside down.
Wiggum: Uh, cancel that APB. But, uh, bring back some of them, uh, gyros.
Friday: Uh, Chief? You're talking into your wallet.

Hope all is good!
