Current mood: happy
I'm blushing... Alex at caughtinthecarousel.com was very gracious in the review of my album. :) http://www.caughtinthecarousel.com/reviews/aThorpe.php"Flawed I am and flawed I will remain/Broken since the day the package opened," sings Adrina Thorpe on her sophomore effort Halflight And Shadows.
Concerned with everything from the mistakes we make to the way we
change our minds in the middle of the night, Thorpe's new collection is
stirring stuff. Armed with a voice that is positively exquisite, Thorpe
makes her emotional precision look easy. There are sweeping pop numbers
("Impossible Dream," "Everything Changes") gorgeous ballads (the
cello-powered "Driving" and "Give You My Love") and breezy synth-fueled
tracks ("Midnight"). A classically trained musician, Thorpe's
instrumentations are sophisticated and her voice deserves to be uttered
in the same sentence as Sarah McLachlan. Elsewhere, "Seed" is a
crushing meditation about love; "Kiss The Day" is breezy and
devastating and "Heal" aches beautifully away. "Find the way we're
meant to be," Thorpe sings. Hard not to imagine a line around the block
of gentleman with extensive blueprints.

Adrina Thorpe Review of the talented musician's album, Halflight & Shadows Written by: C. Wolkoff – Posted: Mon Jul 20th, 2009
Adrina Thorpe is often compared to Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan and countless other songstresses; and though her style is certainly similar, Adrina stands apart. She is a classically trained pianist and her masterful skills are evident throughout her second album, Halflight & Shadows. But despite her musical expertise, her lyrics show her vulnerable side, as she is unafraid to sing about heartache, breakups, and other issues that make us human.
My favorite song is "Everything Changes," which starts with a light piano melody similar to Vanessa Carlton's style and builds up to a climactic chorus. "Moment to End" is another treasure and sounds like it could easily be the theme song to a classic Disney movie.
The album description on her website states, "Halflight & Shadows illuminates the eternal struggle of light against the darkness and the yearning that each of us faces everyday, the quest for a beautiful life." Adrina's music, with her delicately enchanting voice, helps to find the light amidst all that darkness. Adrina Thorpe on iLike - Add iLike to your MySpace

http://www.jitzul.com/proConnectionBlogs/index.php?target=36
As I sat to contemplate my first Jitzul blog, many ideas popped into my head. But then, blogs are about what you’re thinking about at the moment, so I decided to write about inspiration that hit me today while cooling off in the tub on an 82 degree day.
Here goes:
Are you overwhelmed? Are you content?
If you are dissatisfied with your life, think of this. Think of women suffering in third world countries who sell themselves to prostitution to pay the rent.
If you are discontent with your situation, think of this. Think of children in Africa who have lost their homes due to unending wars, and live penniless and without mothers or fathers.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, consider this. Some people in the world work hard to earn two dollars a week.
Now, look around you. What do you find? What do you HAVE?
Yeah, it might not be perfect. We strive for perfection because the human eye and the human soul is somehow never satisfied… with this life.
But look at what you have.
Think of the beauty your life possesses.
Think of what you’ve spent yourself on, and could it be that you could have given 10 minutes of your time or 10 dollars of your day to someone less fortunate? (ok, I just added that in right now. Back to recollections)
As I lay in my cool tub, looking at my aqua bathroom with my lovely scrolled tapestry curtains, I decided NOT to look at the sink, which needs cleaning. I decided NOT to think of my 11 inch high stack of paperwork that I haven’t been able to get through for the last month… endless calls to companies which have made mistakes on my medical bills, household bills etc. Even if all their mistakes lie never to be resolved, I have more than most of the world. People would die to lie in my tub in my less than spotless house. They would call themselves kings, queens, even if they got along with this house, all my life’s complications (which mind you, are overwhelming daily, but I’d rather not get into that unless we are talking over coffee.)
So, I encourage you to be grateful for what you have in spite of what you are striving for.
In fact, that is part of what my newest album is all about. It’s about finding the “halflight” in the “shadows” of life, and being transformed. Particularly my song Heal and my song Kiss the Day which you can hear at my websites mentioned at the bottom of this post.
But before you click those links, please consider going here to help those in dire need. I’d rather you never buy my album and help some of these people instead. Please.

Then take a breath of fresh air and thank God that you were born in a country where you are so privileged as to have toothpaste, running water, peace, and a roof over your head.
Till next time,
God bless you,
Adrina

............
A lot of people have been asking “what is the story behind
the name of the album, "Halflight and Shadows"?”
Here’s the answer: I started noticing that nearly every song had some word
about light and/or dark in it. And they progress along a journey from dark to
light.
Here are little snippets from each song, quoted for you to see: (info on full link at the bottom of this
page)
The wind has
swallowed all of the light inside this place. Midnight; I’m torn asunder. No
glimmer left inside this place. When I wake up in the morning, would you be
there? And I know this is only a dream of darkened sleep. Wake me into the
light. I’ve slept too long. Wake me into the light of morning. I’ll wake when I
see your eyes shine bright.
....
Everything changes
when you close your eyes. Sleep in the bed that you made! ....
And the war was
always out there in your eyes.
....
Domino, oh no no,
watch as the pieces fall. Light dances round me on the other side. Light floods
the world. When it’s all dark, I’ll find the light of day. If I am blind,
strike me with lightning, yeah.
....
Well the sun is
slowly fading, but the moon is rising high. Tonight, tonight we drive…. in our
beat up little black car on this endless midnight road. When I hold your hand,
the headlights blur the road. The stars are coming out. Skies above us sparkle;
It’s our time to shine. Days and nights flutter by. Today I will be holding on.
Today. Today. Well the moon is slowly fading, but the sun is waking up. Pack
your bags cause we’ve got things to do today…
....
Morning light upon
my pillowcase… Well, hello, here comes the day. Let the sun upon my face... Far
too long I’ve slept in solitude with these walls as cold as ice. If I wake will
it be worth it all to feel the sun upon my face? Hiding from the eyes that love
me still with the sun upon my face.
....
I am one, I am one
of many, in a sea full of shining stars. When the lights go out on the city I
see one bright star. And it shines with a light for many and it bids for the
world to come. Walk on the water in the dark of the night. Step into the
epicenter. Empty you will find. There’s a calm that holds you tight.
....
Don’t wake me from
this dream standing in between the fairytale and your goodbye. Yellow, red and
green…golden is the scene, when you place your hand on mine.
....
Take a moment and
breathe life in. Breathe in sunlight and warm summer wind. All the days of
chasing time, fade into nothing, but this moment’s mine. Take in the moments
when the sun will shine as the time heals…heals… heal. ....
All hail, kiss the
day. Stars fall on your parade. I didn’t think the sun would rise up in these
autumn skies. When the day is done and I have only run… Take the moments be
they dark or gold… I didn't see the dawn of light, oh bring me back to life...
If I saw the sunlight, would you stop pretending it was dark?
....
When the day turns
to night and the night clouds your eyes, if you seek you will find. Oh you
shimmer, you glimmer, you shine.
....
Whispers of a day
gone by… Hoping for a day brand new… Do you believe in sunlight here?
Underneath your colorless sky, every kind word has a plastic veneer. I still
believe in sunlight. Believe. I still believe that you’re right here.....

Behind the Lyrics: “Who Will Find Me”
When I originally wrote Who Will Find Me, I thought of it
in terms of a love song, unrequited love reaching out to the one who needs her,
to the one who has been carried away by the world and it’s distractions from what
really matters most, love. She lovingly reaches out to him to come back. In his
darkened midnight eyes, she sees the way to create a sunrise in his life. After
the lyrics were written, I read through them to make sure they made sense to
me. All of a sudden it hit me, this is God’s love song to humanity. I had no
idea I had even written it, but it was so evident to me that it was there. We
are the lost one and he is reaching out, beckoning us to find the more
beautiful life that can only be found in Him. We get lost in the silver winter
skies, in the wind and the fire and the midnight. But beyond is a beautiful
life and stillness and life in the morning light. This beautiful life, which we
can find, is for the now as well as the future. The city of shining light is
heaven. And the way God sees us is forgiven, perfect, in a place where the
roses bloom whereas we may view ourselves with condemnation and in a
dark place. And “who will find me” is just what God says because
honestly, no one wants to find Him these days. Everybody has some
reason to want to push Him away, but Jesus is love and life reaching
out to us. Can we walk on the water to Him? Can we walk in faith when all is dark, upon the unsubstantial water, not knowing that the terrifying journey will in fact lead us to a place of peace and a new morning full of soft warm light? I love it when my songs have double meanings. I prefer to write about
everything in life, and then let there be these hidden double messages about
spirituality, but this song really has a double message without my
intentionally putting it there, and when I saw it I was blown away.
Today, I got this in my email inbox and it reminded me of my
lyrics to the song so I’ll include the link: http://www.truthforlife.org/site/News2?abbr=tls&page=NewsArticle&id=8688
for some reason the link isn't working perfectly, so when you get to that page, look up this title: Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.
Who
Will Find Me Lyrics
In
a world of desire,
oh who would come and catch you when you fall
in the wind and the fire?
oh who would come to save you? High
above any danger…
Locked inside the tower of your mind,
dreams are veiled; passion blinded.
Safe from fear and fire. Oh
who will find me?
In your midnight eyes, I see a summer sunrise.
Fly far beyond these silver winter skies.
I see a beautiful life. Oh, come and get away. Do
you see the horizon?
Walk upon the water, you will find
all is still and yet alive
in the morning light. Oh
who will find me?
In your midnight eyes, I see a summer sunrise.
Fly far beyond these silver winter skies.
I see a beautiful life. Oh, come and get away. Dance
dance in the morning light.
Open your darkened eyes.
Hey, hey, it’s a beautiful day.
It’ll be ok. It’ll be ok. Take
a look, spin around, this is where I find you… where the roses bloom.
Leave your cares, leave your fears, leave them all behind you… yeayah.
It’s a beautiful day in the city of shining light.
It’s a beautiful day. This is where I find you… yeayah Oh who will find me?
In your midnight eyes, I see a summer sunrise.
Come and get away.
