Current mood: excited
Hi everyone... Just want to make sure you all know about a very cool show I will be part of this weekend: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th: I am very excited to be part of an awesome show at Hal & Mal's Red Room (200 S. Commerce St., Jackson) on Saturday night (doors 8 PM, show starts at 9 PM). The show is called "Music and Lyrics--The Meeting of the Minds", and I'll be sharing the bill with two of my very good friends, both stellar performers... Taylor Hildebrand, from the great band Passenger Jones... and AJC and the Envelope Pushers. It's going to be a great night of very diverse (yet simpatico) music, with lots of jamming. For my set I will be joined by a band that includes Bob Gates, Stan Black, and Jeremy Hurley. Tickets are $7... advance tix and group discounts available (email me for details). More info on Taylor Hildebrand and AJC and the Envelope Pushers at: --- More on these and other upcoming gigs, including shows in Greenwood, Oxford, and a Halloween return to Underground 119 in Jackson, at http://www.scottalbertjohnson.com/shows.htm. Hope to see you soon!!! Best, Scott Albert Johnson********************************************** "Umbrella Man leaves no stone unturned. * NEW RECORDING: "Under the Rainbow" / Album pre-order As many of you already know, I have started releasing some new recordings... the first was a live acoustic performance of my song "Magnolia Road" at Smith Park in Jackson, Mississippi from the fall of 2008. I am doing this as a way of raising funds to record, master, manufacture and promote my next album, which I hope to release early next year. I'm also taking PRE-ORDERS for the new album, which enables you to support the creation of this record in an even bigger way. It's been a great success so far, and I am so grateful to those of you who have supported this effort... I have one song finished and several songs that are in various stages of completion, and I wouldn't have gotten this far without your help. Now, I've got a new studio recording available... an instrumental version of the classic song "Over the Rainbow", with me on harmonicas and my friend Bob Gates on a lovely acoustic guitar. This recording features a mix of my regular diatonic harmonica playing (that's the ten-hole harmonica you know and love), plus a segment in the middle where I use a tremolo harmonica. This is a special kind of harp that you don't see much anymore in the United States; it's very popular in Asia and also in Irish folk music. (Here's a link to more information about the tremolo harmonica: www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremolo_harmonica) I just uploaded this song to my myspace page, where you can hear it by streaming audio. I am offering three options for purchasing a download this song: - $25: ALBUM PRE-ORDER. This gives you a lifetime subscription to all download releases (past, present and future), including “Over the Rainbow”, PLUS you will receive a digital download of the new album prior to its official release AND an actual physical copy of the album as soon as it comes back from the manufacturer. In other words, you'll be pre-ordering the album as well as getting the live recordings. - $10: a lifetime subscription to all of these special MP3 download releases, past present and future - Individual mp3 recordings , including "Over the Rainbow" or the live recording of "Magnolia Road", are downloadable for just $1.39 (payable by credit card or PayPal), starting with "Magnolia Road" You can purchase the song or one of these packages by going to this link:
http://www.scottalbertjohnson.com/sounds_live.htm
Every single penny raised through these sales will go directly toward the cost of recording, mastering, manufacturing, and promoting the album. Even if you just purchase one digital download, you'll be supporting independent music in a very direct and tangible way, and it's very much appreciated!!!

I'm in the process of preparing to record my next album. We've now done two sessions for this as-yet-untitled project. I (along with my record label) am also in the process for raising the funds to record, master, manufacture and promote the album. To that end, I am taking pre-orders for this album, and also have started releasing some live recordings... the first is a live acoustic performance of my song "Magnolia Road" at Smith Park in Jackson, Mississippi from the fall of 2008. You can purchase the song or one of these packages by going to this link: http://www.scottalbertjohnson.com/sounds_live.htm Every single penny raised through these sales will go directly toward the cost of recording, mastering, manufacturing, and promoting the album. We're already off to a great start, but there's still a long way to go (releasing and promoting an album, especially in today's music world, is an expensive and time-consuming process. Even if you just purchase one digital download, you'll be supporting independent music in a very direct and tangible way, and it's very much appreciated!!!

I was incredibly humbled and honored to have been voted "Best Local Musician" by readers of the Jackson Free Press in their annual "Best of Jackson" awards, as well as a "good showing" (kind of like an honorable mention) in the "Best Singer/Songwriter" category. (see link below) In a town with so many unbelieveably talented musicians, it's hard to take this award as anything but a very kind expression of support, and I am very grateful for that. There's far too many to list all of them here, but Jackson has an amazing talent base, and it's my hope for 2009 that the musicians, singer/songwriters, and other musicmakers from the "City With Soul" get more and wider recognition. Deepest congratulations to all the winners and finalists in each category, and thanks to all the artists and performers who make Jackson such a rewarding, challenging, and fun place to make music. Hi all... just a quick note that the Scott Albert Johnson Band is honored to perform at the HeARTs Against AIDS benefit show this Saturday night ( February 9th). The event will be at Hal & Mal's ( 200 S. Commerce St., Jackson), and we will play from 6:30 to 7:30 PM (with my good friend, Sherman Lee Dillon, joining us as a special guest). This is one of the biggest, most fun, and most worthwhile nights of music, art, food and fun of the entire year and is the largest fundraiser in Mississippi for HIV/AIDS related issues. There will be plenty of music from us (and also from our friends Eric Stracener and John Hawkins, Scott Anderson, and James Jenkins)... a silent art auction featuring work from dozens of Mississippi artists (including my wife, photographer Susan Margaret Barrett)... and food from many of Jackson's best restaurants. This is my 4th year to play this event and I'm honored to be a part of it. More info at: http://www.mississippihearts.organd http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/comments.php?id=16179_0_4_0_CHope to see you there for this truly outstanding and important event! "Umbrella Man leaves no stone unturned. Scott Albert Johnson's debut mixes blues, rock, folk and jazz, unified by first-rate harmonica playing." (Maureen Palli, Relix)
"Scott Albert Johnson is a harmonica player of the highest class, and a fine and versatile singer and songwriter as well. He has been blessed with a beautiful, clear and unique voice, and his harp playing varies between steaming blues solos, Toots Thielemans-like jazzy stuff, and more subtle playing. His style intermingles pop, jazz and roots music and, of course, blues influences." (Rootstime) **********************************************
