A continuous wave of light
UK - http://www.babyloss-awareness.org/ USA - www.october15th.com
Today is a day of remembrance for many people across the world where a candle is lit at 7pm local time to create a continuous wave of light.
Miscarriage & stillbirth are subjects that are not particularly openly discussed but for many reasons and for different people, i will light my candle tonight x

I fancied a poached egg for breakfast this morning and decided to do a web search on how to do a perfect bit of poaching. I found the following...made me laugh. I tried the cling film method and concur that it does indeed give you the perfectly poached egg! How to poach an egg

So yesterday I finally got my act together and tried acupuncture for the first time. So many people have recommended it to me over the last couple of years. I admit, I am not great with needles which is why it's taken me so long to dive in.
A few people have asked what kind and how did it feel, so...
I am having a 10 week course, which will hopefully bring my body back into balance.. I guess the last couple of years of poor health have really taken their toll on me, and I just would like to get back to normal..like so many people.. heh.. heh, what is normal anyways?! I know what my normal is..
Anyway, I was pretty anxious it has to be said..I had twelve needles put in various positions on my body... the acupuncturist follows the traditional chinese method. How it feels, when the needle goes in, it's just literally tapped in, in some areas I felt it, others I didn't. The needles where left in place for about 20 minutes in all..after 15 mins he twisted some of the needles and stopped when I could feel it. The sensation was just sharp like a pin prick. When he stopped twisting the sharpness stopped. Some of the areas where the needles where I felt a pulling or tugging sensation and a bit of a dull ache. When the needles came out my body felt completely heavy and I felt like there was no way I'd be able to get up, but after a couple of minutes I felt okay. I had a short bus ride home (thankfully!), and then just spent last night feeling very dehydrated, so lots of water being drunk, which is the same I find for any energy work I've had done (Reflexology & Reiki are the other two I've had in the past). In some areas of my body where the needles had been I could still feel a bit of an ache. I was told this is a positive thing though as it means the acupuncture is still working. I have read that alot of people feel very light and full of energy afterwards. I'm guessing for me this will come after a few more sessions when I've fully relaxed into it..
If anyone is thinking of having this done but like me a little wary, as my acupuncturist told me, going to the dentist is alot worse. And he is SO right!
I've also been told to try out Quigong too as it will complement the acupuncture. I have in the past done Tai Chi and loved it, so am going to do this too...
I'll report back in a few weeks as to how effective it has been for me..
love xx

"I am a book about UK indie music and culture ranging from the early 1990s to present. This is what my publisher has to say about me. But I have a better sense of humour. Also I love Spanglish! This in-depth study of the British independent music scene explores how the behavior of fans, artists, music industry professionals, and sexual acolytes produce a community with a specific aesthetic based on moral values. Author Wendy Fonarow, a scholar with years of experience in the various sectors of the indie music scene, examines the indie music "gig" as a ritual in which all participants are actively involved. This ritual allows participants to play with cultural norms regarding appropriate behavior, especially in the domains of sex and creativity. Her investigation uncovers the motivations of audience members when they first enter the community and how their positions change over time so that the event functions for most members as a rite of passage. Empire of Dirt sheds new light on music, gender roles, emotion, subjectivity, embodiment, and authenticity"
Professor Wendy is a very close friend of mine. We have known each other for about 15 years. Her wonderful book is already available in the States and has now just been released in the UK....to find out more about her please visit her page...and please buy her book :-)
I wish you all a wonderful 2008 !

School Of British Indie Rock May 17, 2006 Story by: Amanda Farah
College students can now take an academic look at the life of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll with the July release of the textbook Empire of Dirt by Dr. Wendy Fonarow. After 13 years of buddying up to musicians (she is responsible for Mojave 3's name), fans and industry types, and earning a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from UCLA, Dr. Fonarow is now ready to share her in-depth study of the culture of British independent music. With cultural examinations of concerts as representations of contemporary attitudes toward youth and an exploration of the true role of groupies, Empire of Dirt looks less like what is assigned in Sociology 101 and more like the recent slew of books about trends in music (think John Harris' The Last Party and Simon Reynolds' Rip It Out And Start Again).
Empire of Dirt: The Aesthetics and Rituals of British Indie Music will be available for general and academic consumption in July from Wesleyan University Press.
