Splice Today presented their first annual mix of original recordings of traditional folk music. On it you will find such talents like Phosporescent, Deer Tick, Wye Oak, These united States, Vandaveer and Headlights.

We recorded our version of Woody Guthrie's "I Ain't Got No Home" while traveling across this wide country - tracking in homes and studios of old and new friends we met along the way.

Have a listen by going to their website here.

You can also read an interview about the recording process here

After an enjoyable handful of shows and travels through warm and mild California, we head east seeking proof that seasons still exist.  (Is this really winter?)

Today we woke to a delicious, home-made breakfast (the best breakfast burritos ever!) with our new friends in Prescott, AZ.  Now, with bellies full, we find ourselves currently en route through rainy high desert mountains to our very first show in Tucson.

Amidst our travels about Arizona yesterday, we were informed of a kind review by Pitchfork Media of our album Hold This Ghost.  We're very grateful. Thank you Pitchfork.

Now for more traveling and making music with our friends, This American Life podcasts, jumping rope at scenic yet questionable rest stops, and listening to more of that Little Joy record (really good).  Maybe it's time for the daily Emergen-C...

Many excitements...

We have a favorite show for new music.

It's called "All Songs Considered" and it's on NPR.

And now we are the new music featured on our favorite show.

How about that?

Triumphant in their emergence, but wholly melancholy in their manner - over the course of too long, in the midst of shifting day jobs, misplaced lovers, folded seasons, and drifting influences - ten new songs are made and have nestled themselves into a recording we've titled "Hold This Ghost."

From the musty and shaded depths of our home basement studio, we commenced with little - a couple of guitars and electromechanical keyboards and a device to record them with. We learned the basics of all things "recording" and even turned a few new leaves learning new instruments when they found their ways into our house, and subsequently, our songs.

On parts that we couldn't play, our new Portland friends were called upon to bring them to life - Rachel and Matt played some drums on a few of tracks, Christina played Oboe and Flute, Emily played violin, Doug played Cello, Victor Paul played some trumpet, Alan played pedal steel, and Laura and Adam graced a couple tunes with their singing. And, after all parts were played, we worked with Tucker to mix the album into it's current and definite state.

We're grateful for all the work and care that our friends have put into this recording - we couldn't have pulled it off without any of them.

Now our studio has taken over most of the house here in Portland, our instruments aren't so few (thanks to many a Portland garage sale and thrift store), and we're pleased to have the album formally released in the US and Canada by our friends at Frog Stand Records in Brooklyn, New York, and on vinyl by our friends at Monotreme Records in London, UK.

Should you like a copy of "Hold This Ghost," it's available in retail stores big and small and digitally from iTunes and others too. If you like vinyl, just click on the link here on our Myspace site.

Thank you for listening and for your support,

Sean and Micah

We met with friends Magnetic Morning (including Jimmy from Tristeza/Album Leaf, and members of Swerve Driver and Interpol) and Drew Andrews (also of Album Leaf) and played a show to a welcoming crowd including old SD friends. We all lost our color a bit, but it was somehow enjoyable.

See the pictures that Darin took here.

Magnetic Morning played a flawless set and Drew surprised us with his new project's exquisite tunefulness and musicianship.

Hey everyone.  If you bought an EP on the road and didn't get an insert (there were a few of those... dang production department) then here is the image of it so you can look at it or print it.  Thanks again.
