Hello

Here's the latest news from Smokers HQ.

LAST OF THE SUMMER

On Saturday 27 September, the Last of the Summer festival will be held at the Carling Academy Sheffield. It's an all-dayer featuring 12 acts including us, David Thomas Broughton, Champion Kickboxer, Nat Johnson (with band), The Kabeedies, I Concur, The Yell and more. Full details at www.myspace.com/lastofthesummer

Tickets are available now for £10 advance - and for the first 100 buyers from Jack's Records you not only get entry to the whole 10-hour shindig, but a free CD featuring ten tracks from artists appearing at the festival.

Our contribution to the CD is a brand new, never before released track called Telemark, which we recorded last month. Get your ticket from Jack's, off Division Street, quickly in order to get your hands on this exclusive CD.

YOUTH MAP

You can hear another brand new track on the BBC website for the next week. Steve Lamacq was kind enough to play our new recording of Youth Map on his 6music show last night. He called it 'epic'. To listen, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00d7dyw and flick to the 2 hour 52 minute mark.

SKETCHPADS

Our most recent single will be available to buy on iTunes on 22 September. Of course, you can still buy it on 7" or digital download from www.theespc.com or most good independent record shops.

That's all for now. We'll have more news in the near future.

Cheers

Sketchpads

The new single by Smokers Die Younger, out now on 7" vinyl and digital download

featuring the brand new song Sketchpads b/w Yer Actual as remixed by Ross Orton and Sophie Toes

'I AM LOVING THIS!' Stevie Chick, Plan B magazine

'A rollicking little single... It starts with a fairly Smithsian stomp then just falls to bits in the middle like a prog breakdown then dusts itself the hell off to return jubilant, bruised & grinning like a drunk in the pub who's just rediscovered his equilibrium at last orders.' Norman Records

SMOKERS DIE YOUNGER "SKETCHPADS" 7 INCH PRE-ORDER ===================================================
Smokers Die Younger "Sketchpads" - OUT 14th July. A limited edition 7" single in a picture sleeve.

PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY HERE - http://www.heychuck.com/theespc/emp_spc/SPC020_detail.html

Smokers Die Younger return with their first release since their critically acclaimed debut album "X Wants The Meat" back in 2006.

In the interim Smokers Die Younger have been the subjects of some bizarre fashion world sponsorship in the form of Karl Lagerfeld – not bad for the scruffiest band in South Yorkshire. Add to that a couple of line-up changes and it's no wonder we've had to wait for a new record. But it's been worth it. A-side "Sketchpads" is their love song to the humble 4-track tape recorder, wrapped up in skewed guitar noise and with that all-important pop sensibility.

Hello.  Here's the latest news from Camp SDY...

NEW SINGLE

We will be releasing our new single Sketch Pads on 14 July, on 7" vinyl and digital download.

The single is backed with a remix of our song Yer Actual by Sophie Townsend and Ross Orton (Fat Truckers, Jarvis Cocker, MIA etc).

You can see the video for the song at http://youtube.com/watch?v=sa-Rt0M4dtk

FESTIVAL

We will be appearing at the Kartfestival in Norway on Saturday 12 July. We'll be onstage at about 9pm. We'll also be playing in Oslo on Friday 11th. Details to be announced.

Thursday, September 20, 2007
Our founding bassist Graham 'G-Had' Booth has decided to leave the band to follow his dreams of becoming a mortgage adviser in Enfield.  His last gig will be on Saturday 29th September at the Pleasure Unit in Bethnal Green, London, supporting former Hefner frontman Darren Hayman.

We've replaced him with a sleeker, taller model, namely Ian Turley, who's played in various Sheffield outfits over the years, most recently Pygmy Globetrotters, the Parallelograms and the Ape Drape Escape.  He's currently locked in a bunker being trained up, and we'll be unleashing him live at our Corporation gig in Sheffield on 11th October, supporting the wonderful Electrelane.

More news soon, including a new single!

We have appeared on a Danish TV documentary about Sheffield music. It features live footage of us and interviews with us, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, The Long Blondes, Monkey Swallows the Universe and Harrisons (as well as footage of us at our day jobs!).

You can watch it at http://www.dr.dk/DR2/Musikprogrammet/Artikler/20070529093624.htm# - click on the link that says 'Se seneste Musikprogrammet' on the right. It's half an hour long and an entertaining watch, despite our involvement. And it's almost all in English, with subtitles, so don't worry if you don't speak Danish!
