9. SERAPHIM - Rising Mighty Seraphim from Taiwan, even if its nor officially released in Europe I got this album and its a really good one. The guitars and vocals are amazing!
10. MOTUS TENEBRAE - Souls Expression The question is if music can get heavier then this (except for Black Sabbath of course, and maybe Candlemass)...a great follow up to their last album "Wayside".
11. METALLICA - Death magnetic At least it sounds more like the 1980:s stuff.

TIMELESS MIRACLE A band with a unique sound in my opinion, melodic metal for all power metal fans.
CELESTIAL DECAY A band from Sweden, see what the guys are planning 2009. Think they have a different sound compared to many other bands in the same genre. Good melodic metal.
METALFORCE (Ex Majesty) Sadly Majesty doesnt exist anymore, good though that Tarek is working on a new band. Metalforce! For all True Metalfans out there!
CRYONIC Melodic Metal from the north part of Sweden. Did one of my fav albums 2007. Really looking forward to hear the follow up to their debut album!

INTERVIEW WITH SOUND STORM!
The Sound Storm fanclub is proud to present a new and fresh interview with guitarist Valerio Sbriglione and drummer Federico Brignolo from Sound Storm!
Can you give us a little background on how the band Sound Storm started?
Valerio: Sound Storm was born at the beginning as a cover band. The band was founded in the far 1999 (if I can remember well) by myself, Federico, Valerio Verderosa and Davide Sini, another dear friend of ours that was playing guitar at that time. He left the band back in january 2005. As often happens, we changed a lot of different names before becoming Sound Storm! In the end we decided to keep this name 'cause it means the many influences you can find in our music. In those days the band played mainly classic heavy metal songs like Maiden, Metallica, Savatage. But we begun very soon to create our own stuff even if we were little older than children!
Federico: yes, we were very young and we tried the first own compositions, very basilar but they were the basement for the new songs, revisited and re-arranged a thousand of times!
The problem in the beginning was about finding a good singer, and when we didn't expect it, Filippo called us…we understood that he was the right voice for the band.
Now we are good friend, I know Valerio S. and Valerio V. since we were child, so our alchemy together is great!
What were your musical backgrounds before Sound Storm? Valerio: I grew up with heavy metal and hard rock of the 80's.. I was totally crazy for Guns n'Roses, Queen, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. Then I discovered Iron Maiden and my life changed. In the mean time, going on with my private studies, I discovered many classical compositions, and I felt in love with them. The first power metal band I listened to was Stratovarius, I was totally bewitched by their speed and technique and even more by the work on the keyboards! It was totally a twisting in my mind, since then I felt in love with the union between heavy metal and symphonic elements.
Federico: I grew up with tons of thrash metal, Megadeth, Metallica ,Pantera always on my old walkman!
Then I discovered epic and power metal, and my love for Blind Guardian began…
I love so much also classic power metal from Germany, I like in particular Kay Hansen as composer, but also the first works from Edguy are marvellous…
As a drummer, I appreciate so much fuckin' crazy guys like Dave Lombardo, Jorg Michael, Gene Hoglan, Mike Portnoy and Jason Rullo from Symphony X, but also more classical drummers as Mangini, Colaiuta for example, but my soul belongs to metal so I feel something good when I see Nicko McBrian on the drums!
What are your main influences, like books, mythology, movies etc and what bands have influenced you most? Valerio: I don't read books, I eat books! I discovered Tolkien just a year before the movie "The Fellowship of the Ring", and I felt in love with LOTR. Really, I think that was one of the most impressive and enthusiastical thing which happened in all my life. Still now sometimes I often think about Middle-Earth! ahahah And I became so passionate with Tolkien that I read all his books! Until now I've read LOTR 10 times! I know, I'm totally crazy ahahaha. And surely his books are my main influence, the same I can say concerning the northern mythology. But I love even greek and latin mythology, you know, we're Italian and I'm very proud for the awesome past we had, Rome was the center of the universe…even if today is total different. Moreover I like very much gothic and horror books, as Bram Stoker's Dracula, Frankestein, and I've read a lot of books by Stephen King. But sincerely would be too long saying all the books I like 'cause I really love reading!
I like cinema as well, LOTR, Braveheart, Interview with the Vampire are only a few movies I adore. By all these I'm inspired for the lyrics and the poetries.. Sometimes I've got a fun writing a poetry.
Concerning the bands…well I can tell you at the moment my most favourite bands are Rhapsody (of Fire), Nightwish and Children of Bodom. But I change my mind too often about that! Ahahahha Anyway I love a lot of bands, not only power metal like Rhapsody and Nightwish, but I like also Viking metal like Ensiferum, black metal like Dimmu Borgir, gothic metal like Tristania, and some more death and trash metal. I listen almost all kinds of metal!
More than metal I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks, classical and medieval music. I've also got a lot of favourite composers as Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Mendellsohn and the more recent Hans Zimmer, Basil Poledouris (RIP), Howard Shore.
As guitarist I can tell you my heroes (and inspirations) are mainly Malmsteen, Alexi Laiho and Michael Romeo from Symphony X. But really I've got much more influences than just those few.
Federico: I don't read so much, I love classical books. But I am a movies maniac! I love cinema, I watch hundreds of movie and I spend a lot of my time searching for news about new directors, actors, trivia…I am a fan of good cinema for sure! And you can find some soundtracks that take your breath away!
I love modern composers like Hans Zimmer, Daniel Elfman, John Williams, Basil Poledouris (RIP) even more than the classical ones!
So, cinema is a great influence even in our songs…for example we are working on a song regarding Coppola's Dracula movie..
As I said before, the bands that influence my stile are thrash metal bands, power epic bands, but also Dimmu Borgir as Valerio said and Viking metal for sure!
One more thing that influences our songs are dreams indeed! They come from the deep of the soul, and many times they are source of inspiration for us!
You are releasing a new EP, tell us a little bit about the background for the EP, what are the 5 different songs all about? Valerio: Exactly, "Northern Wilderness" includes 5 songs. The first is an orchestral introduction composed by myself which announces the arrival of a storm. I composed that together with Thunders and Rain, which is the unreleased song included in the Ep. Compared to the previous promo cd we changed the name of the intro from "THE storm is coming" into "A storm is coming" which is more impersonal and means a more abstract storm, not necessary identified with us. The first intention on the promo cd was in fact identifying the band with the storm which "is coming": you know, it was our first work and we thought it could be a more original introduction.
Thunders and Rain is the same theme of the following Sacred Storm. Two different conceptions of the storm: the first one is a radical change of a life, a very personal and introspective conception of the storm. The second one is the more heroic conception, a powerful storm which sweeps away the enemies. Obviously in both these case we talk metaphorically.
Queen of the Ice is a ballad which wrote Filippo and Valerio and it's not just a love song: in it resound the atmospheres and the echoes of a far place, the northern "frozenlands" we love so much. And the same theme is reprised in We are Vikings, our most famous song. We decided to re-record even this song 'cause the previous versions was not satisfying enough in quality. The same for Queen of the Ice and Sacred Storm And still now the quality is not enough for us but we couldn't do more than this..
Finally an important detail: the songs were totally performed into the recording studio! No drum machines, no midi or other technologies, the cd is totally played and recorded! And this gives a more "live sound" to the stuff and makes imaginable how it will be performed on stage
Federico: I can tell you something more about the title of the EP: "Northern Wilderness".
It represents the basement that unites each song of the EP, and it is quite obvious if you think about it!
Nordic landscapes and mythology are something that you can often find in our music and lyrics…
Valerio didn't tell you that the cover of the EP was created by a professional painter, a friend and a genius!
On the cover you can find all the elements that you can also find in each song: the iced castle of "Queen of the Ice", the Viking warrior, the Storm behind him (is it snow or rain? maybe both), each particular was thought by our own, and perfectly painted on paper by our friend…we are so proud to have a cool cover like that!
What is your personal favourite song on the EP and why? Valerio: Well, you know, is very difficult for an artist choosing a song and not another one because it's like if you would see the songs as separate works. We put identical care in each single song. Anyway, in this case my favourite one could be Thunders and Rain for the personal reasons I told before. I wrote that in a very particular and sad moment and I had such a lot to say!
Federico: I love Sacred Storm more than the other songs, maybe 'cause it is more "power" and funny to play!
But the symphonic interlude in Thunders and Rain seems to reach one of the Highlight of the Ep…
I enjoy also the final prayer in "We are Vikings!", the lead voice in that prayer is mine! We tried to record it 'cause I have a voice deeper and quite "growl", perfect in that case!
Now what are Sound Storms plans for this year, any live shows? Valerio: The plans for the immediate future are for sure getting a contract with a pretty big label 'cause as you can imagine Sound Storm needs a huge investment for making the songs with a well deserved output. And surely a small label cannot offer us that. Then we are working with Dark Angel Management for booking some dates across the Italy and finally promoting the band on stage quite far from our city.
Even if we're pointing abroad, both for the label and the gigs. But unfortunately at the moment no live shows are planned yet. But we're working hard to getting all this, especially I am a very headstrong person for what I wish! ahahaah
Federico: We are planning to spread our music as soon as possible, I think that if someone had appreciated the previous works that were just demo-tracks, could not dislike this one!
How is the current metal scene where you come from?
Valerio: You should see, looking at what I said before, Italy is not a very good place for heavy metal, and mainly for our kind of heavy metal. In fact all the bands which got success, for example Rhapsody or Lacuna Coil, went abroad as soon as possible. And I cannot blame them, this is not betraying our own Country, this is following our own dreams and seeing them becoming reality. I think there are a lot of cool bands here, but surely there isn't interest and attention enough in them. Here people want to hear Italian popular music, commercial music…rather "easy-listening" music!. Only a few people love heavy metal, and it's only for these few ones that still exists a small community of heavy metal fans. But it's really very sad for me facing daily this reality, it seems to force you to leave your intentions. And unluckily many guys leave their bands and the music from their life 'cause they are surrounded by the cruel reality. But I'm too headstrong for leaving, this is the only thing I can do and the only thing I WANT to do, so I will go on 'till I get what I wish. Sorry, I'm pretty fed up with this situation!
Federico: yes, as Valerio said here in Italy people are quite "close-minded", and it is very difficult making someone open to hear something more…
I hope something will change soon!
Outside the band, what are your interests and how do you like to relax?
Valerio: Sincerely I've not much time left to relax lately! Ahahah Anyway I go to the gym every day, I like body building and fitness and keep myself in form. When I'm at home I love listening to music, obviously heavy metal and classical music but often also older hard rock from the 80's for example. Then I like reading a lot of books, watching films in DVDs and metal concerts. And networking on the web as well! But I spend the main part of my time in studying music, composing and working to the promotion of the band.
Federico: I have a lot of interests: music, comics, movies, videogames, girls ("find me/ somebody to love" Queen rules! ahahah) and I spend a lot of time with my friends, with the guys from Sound Storm in particular!
Finally, anything you want to say to the fans of Sound Storm?
Valerio: First thanks to all the person which will spend their time to read this interview. Then I would like to thanks all the fans we got in these years all over the world after the first promo cd. We couldn't imagine to get so many and fantastic people! Thanks to you all! And finally I would invite you all to hear our new work, I'm sure you will appreciate it! And for more information about Sound Storm come to visit us on the official website: www.powerofsoundstorm.com or on the Myspace profile, where you can even listen to the new We are Vikings version and a couple of clip from the last Ep: www.myspace.com/powerofsoundstorm.
Keep you all the Swords high and…unleash the Storm!
Federico: Crazy guys and ladies, YOU RULES! You are the reason why we keep on with the Storm, and don't forget, we are proud for every single compliment and appreciation about our music, we would like to shake your hands!
Thank you guys!
For any comments or something else you would like to tell us…we are online!
Thanks to you Bjorn for the interview, one day, fuckin' crazy Viking, we will meet!
I personally thank the guys from Sound Storm for making this interview possible.
May the power of Oden always be with you!
