Cemetery Man AKA Dellamorte Dellamore Released-1996 TAGLINE-Zombies, guns, and sex, OH MY!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhQiP6CYcMs This harder then I thought but I’m still hanging in there. Cemetery Man is probably one of my all time favorite movies from the genera. It has it all and there is no other zombie flix like it. If you haven’t seen it go out and buy it now. This movie is based on a novel of Tiziano Sclavi, and it always reflects the "sclavian philosophy" diffused by the most succesful comics in Italy: Dylan Dog, the detective of the nightmare. There is the duality between love and dead (in Italian "dellamore" means "of love" and "dellamorte" means "of death"), a duality that Dellamorte feels in a really hard way. He is the guardian of the cemetery of Buffalora, a little town in the north of Italy, in which, we don't know why, corpses rise from tombs and Dellamorte has to destroy them. Dellamorte seems not to ask to himself why this happen, he shoots and loves. But at the end he wants to leave Buffalora... (IMDB)
The director Michele Soavi was the prodigy of Dario Argento and was brought up in the Italian horror factory of the 80s and 90s. Soavi only directed a hand full of movies before a tragedy focused his attention to his famaly. Cemetery man was Soavi’ last horror movie as to date. Maybe one day he will return?

Homecoming Released-2005 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93jdPg5xNY0 Homecoming is part of the Masters of Horror collection that I think originally aired on ShowTime. Some of the episodes are really good and others are just lame. One really cool thing about this collection is you get legendary horror directors taking a stab at short stories. Joe Dante directed Homecoming and I am torn about how I feel about it. A few weeks before the presidential elections the war still wages on and the politicians will say anything to get re-elected. During a speech the commander-in-chief wishes for all dead soldiers to come back to life and tell the American people how important dying for their country was. Well the wish comes true and before you know it undead troops are wondering the streets. Not only are they against the war the only thing that can kill them is the right to vote…
Sound silly? It is. With a run time of a little under an hour this slice of undead video is worth a look. I am torn about the whole story. In the process of trying to be original Homecoming comes off as just being kind of stupid. Guess that makes me kinda stupid then cause I’ve watched it 3 times.

Shock Waves Released-1977 Tagline-Once They Were Almost Human! Beneath the living... Beyond the dead... From the depths of Hell's Ocean! The Deep End of Horror! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiBQue8n-bo
The 70s were a good time as far as horror went, probably one of my favorite decades. Things were still scummy back then and filmmakers didn’t have to worry about being P.C. Shock Waves wasn’t that gory or out of control but it was part of a small category of nazi zombie flix. I don’t consider this movie to be racist at all it’s just different. This flix revolves around a shipwrecked yachting party. Rose and her fellow yacht-mates, including the captain run aground on an island when they hit an odd-looking freighter. Once beached, they meet up with an aging SS Commander who had been in charge of a crew of zombies. The zombies were an experiment that went out of control, an SS death squad that wouldn’t die. Now Rose and her companions must try to escape the island before the undead soldiers add to the death count.
Shock Waves is kind of a slow movie and don’t expect a whole lot of gore. I do own this movie though and it is a good mindless zombie flix. I think only true fans of the genera would appreciate it. 10-16-09 nic

Bride of Re-Animator Released-1990 Tagline-Date. Mate. Re-animate. I’m back on track bitches! Tonight well be taking a look at the sequel to 1985s gorefest Re-Animator. If you haven’t seen this movie you’re missing out on one of the most brutal and hilarious horror movies ever made. Bride is the follow up to this masterpiece, and even though it dose fall a little short of the original it’s still a hell of a ride. Herbert West and his reluctant sidekick, Dan return for another funny, gory round of bringing back the dead in bits and pieces. This time, West cons Dan into an attempt to rebuild his late girlfriend, using her preserved heart and body parts scrounged from the local hospital. During West experiments he re-animates all kinds of mutant body parts sown together in all kinds of strange ways. Playing god can pay it’s toll, soon West’s experiments are more then he can handle.
Screaming Mad George and KNB are responsible for a hideous onslaught of great F/X in Bride. This movie has great gore from beginning to end and moves right along. Except for the flying head of Dr. Hill which West decides to re-animate with bat wings (you’ll see) this is a killer flix.

The Serpent and the Rainbow Released-1988 Tagline-Don't bury me...I'm not dead! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xvlkRCXAq4 The 80s were a strange time for horror movies. Most of what was coming out just sucked but you also saw legendary movies such as Return of the Living Dead. During this decade Wes Craven made a name for him self with a silly flix called A Nightmare on Elm Street. Most of his movies kinda suck but Serpent and the Rainbow stuck out and took a somewhat real jab at the zombification of humans. Based on the book by Wade Davis. When Dr. Alan is in Haiti in search of a zombification drug he becomes entwined into a world of corruption, fear and voodoo. While on his search Alan becomes the target of an evil regime that wants to keep their ways to them self. After retrieving the zombie drug, and a hole in his testicle, Alan returns to America only to find that he must return to Haiti to destroy the mental curse he has brought upon himself.
I think this movie is lightly based on true events. Serpent has a very old school feel to it but with an almost realistic twist. I say almost cause the last 10 min. of the movie are kinda silly.

The Dead Next Door Released-1989 Tagline- how do you kill something that won't die? Where do you run when they're everywhere?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lzy5GJVT2M Ever great once in a while you come across a movie that is one of a kind. Peter Jackson did with Bad Taste and J.R. bookwalter did it with The Dead Next Door. This movie was entirely shot on super 8 over a 4 year period and produced and written by J.R. Everything is so bad its the perfect blood soaked b-movie… After America is infected by a viral outbreak a special military task force try’s to keep things in control, Zombie Squad. When a vaccine is found two scientist and four members of the Zombie Squad set out for the formula. When they arrive they are met by a cult of zombie worshipers who want to cleanse the living. Need I say more?
This is probably one of the best of its kind to come out of the 80’s. Despite the lack of money The Dead Next Door survives and conquers with it’s heart alone. It’s gory, it’s cheap, it’s fun and it’s silly just what ya need for a great low budget splatter gore flix. This is probably one of the best DVDs in my collection…
Side note- The lead actor Rami sure sounds a lot like Bruce Campbell.

28 Weeks Later Released-2007 Tagline- It All Begins Again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMyIG2EKPoE
With so many shity excuse for zombie flixs coming out these days it makes it tough to rent anything good from your local video store. You dig through so much crap and almost never find gold. I wasn’t a big fan of the first movie but 28 Weeks Later is pretty fricken good. Six moths after the Rage virus has all most decimated the population of London the military has things under control, or they think. While slowly trying to repopulate a section of the city two kids sneak into the quarantine zone and find their mother who is still a carrier. Upon return to the populace the Rage virus is unleashed again with brutal force. Within hours the city is a war zone and there is only one solution. Complete devastation of everything. Even though this movie is kinda slow in parts its very worth while. Lots of carnage, (the helicopter scene is awesome) decent story and is definitely worth checking out. If you can look past zombie dad chasing his kids the whole second half 28 Weeks is a great movie.

I Walked with a Zombie Released-1943 Tagline-She's alive... yet dead! She's dead... yet alive! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT_JnFXC6UA I know I haven’t bloged in a couple days but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been watching. Here we go again into the old school with I walked with A Zombie. This is a classic tale of voodoo and a very important film for its time. When a young nurse is sent by her employer to look after the catatonic wife of a plantation owner she discovers a dark secret. When traditional treatment dose not work she turns to the locals for help. Before the nurse knows what happens she is caught up in a dark family secret and a surreal world of magic and evil. Even faith might not be enough to save her.
This is a beautiful gothic tale of oppression and revenge. A must for true fans of the genera.

Plague of the Zombies Released-1966 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZznL8_Ld4rwPLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES 1966 D: JOHN GILLING ANDRE MORELL DIANE CLARE JACQUELINE PEARCE In the 60s and 70s Hammer Films put out a slue of horror films. They touched on everything from Dracula to the mummy. They would also employee great legends of the genera such as Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee and worked with William Castle. Hammer was responsible for dozens of classic gothic thrillers before they went under in 1979. Plague of the zombies is one of my favorites from this studio. In the village of Cornwall the population is dropping like flies to a mysterious plague. The local doctor is baffled by the deaths and calls in his mentor for much needed help. Upon arrival it is apparent that something evil has its clutches on the small town. The recently dead are reported to be seen at the old mill at night and when the graves are exhumed the coffins are empty. Can the good doctors find the source of the voodoo and stop the curse before it takes them.
This movie is structured a lot like White Zombie but is still original. This was one of the last zombie movies to use the old school voodoo formula before Romero changed everything. I really enjoy the horror movies from Hammer. They’re easy to watch and have a very creepy feel to them. I would recommend Plague of the zombies to all fans of British horror.

City of the Living Dead Released-Italy 1980 US 1983 Tag line-And the dead shall rise and walk the earth! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GmdDkmshEQ There is a reason Lucio Fulchi has been dubbed The Godfather of Gore. The Beyond, New York Ripper, Zombie 3, Conquest, House by the Cemetery, Zombie 2 and don’t forget City of the Living Dead. Fulchi had no fear of putting extreme gore in his movies. On March 13th 1996 Fulchi passed away but his legacy will live forever on DVD. In the small New England town of Dunwich, a priest commits suicide by hanging himself in the church cemetery which somehow opens the gates of hell allowing the dead to rise. Peter, a New York City reporter, teams up with a young psychic, named Mary, to travel to the town where they team up with another couple, psychiatrist Jerry and patient Sandra, to find a way to close the gates before All Saints Day or the dead all over the world will rise up and kill the living (From the IMDB). All fans of zombie movie know that Fulchi’s are a must for the collection. So many memorable scenes of blood soaked carnage it keeps you watching Fulchis films again and again. City of the Living Dead is a must and might be one of the goriest zombie movies I own.
