Here's a poem Hugh sent from Leavenworth. Enjoy!

Serving the Sentence

Hugh’s Haiku From Leavenworth Prison

Welcome to Prison

Leavenworth is the oldest

In the whole Country

OK now DeNeal

Your number is 082

16025

The guards envy us

Because some day

We’ll be released from this prison

They’ve locked us up

And given us freedom

From responsibility

I can really see

How someone could become

Institutionalized

Boy Scout camp was much

scarier than this

But I was much younger then

3 years the old convict laughed

I’ve done more time than that

In the chow hall

No one despises

The government more

Than Federal prisoners

Loved ones we’ve left at home

Have a much worse sentence

Than we’ll ever have

The sunset would be

Pretty without

The razor wire in the foreground

Today we dropped Hugh off at Leavenworth Prison. Its a mean, nasty, ugly place. If you'd like to help us to keep him from being too lonesome, please send him a letter. Here's his mailing address:
Hugh DeNeal 08216-025
USP Leavenworth
Satellite Camp
PO Box 1000
Leavenworth, KS 66048

Please remember that the guards will read all his mail, so don't say anything you don't want the world to know.

Also, if you want to send him a $ gift (for socks, or whatever else he is allowed to purchase from the prison store), please use Western Union & use this info:
Quick Collect
08216025 DeNeal
Attn: Hugh DeNeal
Code City: FBOP, DC

We aren't sure if he's allowed to have any "care packages" yet. But if so, we'll post a new blog with that info.
Our friend needs to hear from you, so send him a letter.
Thanks

Tonight at Tres Hombres in Carbondale Illinois...catch the debut performance of Carbondale's new super group...The Giant City Slickers. Featuring Alex Kirt & Dan Goett of the Woodbox Gang, Mark Stoffel & Nate Gram of Etherton Switch, and Charlie Morrell of The Ivas John Blues Band. The Giant City Slickers play western swing music (Bob Wills, Spade Cooley). NO COVER CHARGE, drink specials, and good tunes. How can you say no to that?
Also, following the Giant City Slicker's set, another new Carbondale super group featuring Alex Kirt, Dan Goett, and Nate Gram playing traditional honky tonk music.
Thus begins a new weekly Wednesday night tradition in Carbondale. Come out and see them break the seal on new beginings.

This is your last chance to party with Hugh DeNeal for the next 34 months. This Saturday night, October 24, at Misunderstudio in Carbondale Illinois, Hugh will be having a CD release party for his new solo album "Arrestitution - My 601k Plan". Be sure to get out there and say your goodbyes to Southern Illinois' favorite singer/songwriter.

Howdy Folks. Since we can't play any shows for the next few years, we gotta sell off some of our most treasured gear so we can raise the funds to pay off our touring debts. I never thought it would come to this, but that's the way it goes I guess?
Follow this link to see all the stuff currently for sale. All proceeds will go to pay off all the money we still owe, since we can't earn money from performing. All this stuff is top quality!!!
thanks

Current mood:  thankful
We just wanted to thank all the enthusiastic folks who came out and celebrated with us Saturday night at our farewell show. It was such an honor to see the amazing turnout at the event. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. We bid you farewell and we hope to see you all again in about 3 years. Until then, we hope you will enjoy our recorded music and don't forget about us while we are gone. See ya down the road! The Woodbox Gang
